Oh geez... are people really complaining about the sizes of the trees?

I don't want to see Ariel or Stitch walk by when we're supposed to be in the 60's, but it sounds like there are some people who are seriously mad that they did not time travel back to 1962 to film the movie on the real thing.

The trees would be a minor point. Ariel and recent characters would be a bit more of an issue. But I think the biggest issue would be Walt Disney showing off Disneyland to P.L. Travers, something made up for the film.

Getting back on topic my friend recently showed me a highlight reel of the recent My Little Bronie Convention and man Disney, if you do read this forum, you need to get in on this action cuz D23 can't compete with this:

She didn't go to Disneyland? I had read elsewhere that she went to LA in the early 60's to visit Walt during negotiations, and I find it surprising that he wouldn't have taken her to Disneyland. Or maybe she refused to go?

The filming at Disneyland earlier this year, with Hanks as Walt wandering the park and the park full of early 1960's extras (Read that as: Slender and attractive and clean cut and appropriately dressed for public) caused quite a sensation on the Disneyland message boards. Is it really true that P.L. Travers never went to Disneyland with Walt as her personal host? o_O

Mack Rides would be a dream come true. Europa Park is the absolute best run park I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Even cleaner and better maintained than Tokyo Disney.

I can't really believe that Mack would be a buyer. I read a very lengthy interview a while back with the "CEO" of Mack and he emphasized a lot that as a family owned business they were looking at growing organically. I can't see them puchasing a theme park in the US without having to finance it and go deep into debt. From the tone of the interview I would not think that this would be their style. But then, they invested so much in Europapark in the last few years (those hotels they built there look awesome, but they are also really pricey), maybe they feel like they need a new project to work on. Thematically from what I have read about Europapark and BGW I think they might actually be a good fit (even though I have visited neither park in person).

Actually, I think Phillip Anschutz might be the likeliest buyer. In 2008, he bought the Busch owned Kingsmill resort adjacent to Busch Gardens. Why not own BG and Water Country USA?

So Spirit anything new on the Busch parks sale?
I have heard Merlin and the crazy one I have heard is Mack.

Oh geez, not Merlin. If BGW is as good as everyone says, I wouldn't want them running it. You would need to expect insane overselling of a queue skipping scheme, unfinished theming, late ride completions, and ticket prices to go through the roof (an adult ticket currently in the UK parks is north of $60, including one park that almost all the theming is being removed because they let it rot- I'm being serious about that, you can google for images of the mess).

I think you can tell i would be against Merlin buying busch

I'm pretty sure his point is that the average fan cannot accurately predict exact crowd levels just by being in the parks and observing lines or crowds. You may get a feeling of the park being crowded or light, but equating that to 45,000 vs 50,000 people isn't really easy. Even a front line cast member working a ride or the front gate wouldn't know the exact numbers. Sure management has the exact count from the gates, but Disney isn't putting that out there to just anyone.
And I disagree as far as CMs are concerned, which is what I have been addressing. I doubt it's as guarded as you think it is from the employees running the park.

Michael jackson now died over FOUR years ago... yet we still have his 'tribute' running on both coasts..

eh i'm not seeing the issue. Captain Eo was a better attraction than what replaced it (HISTA), Jackson was very talented and it's good that people from that era and people unfamilar with his creative works can see him in his prime before his life became a media horrorshow. It also has a nice historic value as the first Disney-Lucasfilm partnership that has now become a major cornerstone for the company. They should only replace it once they have a great idea.

Captain EO was horribly dated from the date it came back to WDW. And it is just very obviously a lame Star Wars rip off in terms of the action. Not to mention the plot itself makes very little sense. I'm not denying Jackson's talent, but there are way better ways than that for people to see what he was all about. Just play them Thriller... Honey I Shrunk the Audience was not without issues, but I would say it was something kids could enjoy more. And that theater was way better utilized with it there. They could place EO in a different place where the theater isn't capable of shaking, ect and you'd hardly know the difference. Id rather have HISTA back.

I thought it was kind of tacky when they brought E-O back originally. If they had kept for a few months, maybe even a year, I guess it would be ok. But it's been way too long, and the only reason is because they had nothing else to replace it with.

Additional reason: it was an opportunistic moment. Disney blatently pounced (not hopped) on the hype-train of a dead celeb. Sad. Pathetic. I was and continue to be amazed at the depths that Disney will sink to.

Merlin Entertainments just seems like a bizarre choice since they are owned 100% by The Blackstone Group, who until recently also owned 100% of SeaWorld Entertainment and still retains a 60% stake in the company. I know Blackstone can be hands off since they're more interested in just making money, but it still seems weird.

I'm sure they did, but there seemed to be a lot of fans that wanted to experience it again. I was at Epcot in '11 for my first and last ride. It might have sentimental value for some but I thought it was probably one of the most dated attractions I have ever been on. On top of that, it was just really bad.

This is very true. Even lower-level managers seem to have access to this information. Same goes for hotel occupancy--odds are good your server at your favorite resort restaurant knows approximately how full the hotel is that night.

Or even the bell hop.
