When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Just returned from seeing The Lone Ranger...........liked it a lot!

On a side note tried the 7:30 show at two separate theaters (15 minutes apart by car) to find them both sold out. (4 screens)

Perhaps this movie is a spirit walker!
Tuesday is cheap movie day around here, so I managed to catch 2 films which have been widely discussed here.
Saw a matinee showing of Monsters University (in 3D) with my 10 year old niece and 11 year old nephew. We all enjoyed it immensely. The smaller kids in front of us actually threw their arms in the air and cheered at a certain pivotal point of the movie. Based on a number of 3D trailers, I have ZERO interest in seeing: The Lego Movie, Turbo, Planes (Cars reboot w/wings), or Smurfs. The trailer for Frozen, however, actually made me laugh so hard I snorted a little root beer out my nose.
In the evening, my Sister-in-law and I saw The Lone Ranger. We both really enjoyed it. It did not seem overly long at all, and the 2 1/2 hours flew by. I completely covered my face with my jacket in order to avoid seeing the heart scene and the rabbit scene (based on things I had read here) and the scorpion scene 'cause I don't do bugs. I found the violence level appropriate to the story being told, except for the three aforementioned scenes. Johnny Depp was spot on. I never saw "Johnny" once, or Jack Sparrow, as others have intimated. I just saw a clever, witty, funny Tonto.
Good fun was had by all in the theatre. The crowd really got into it during the William Tell Overture. Glad I listened to folks here, rather than the Huffington Post review, which had totally put me off. I really hope this movie gains some steam, and movie-goers get out to see it on the big screen, where it belongs.
And while I'm offering unsolicited movie reviews - I also enjoyed The Great Gatsby last month. I think Leo is probably the most versatile actor working right now.
Now I can't wait for RED2. I loves me some Bruce Wills.

I think the last 30 minutes alone are worth seeing it on the big screen. Story/plot gripes aside ... that last 30 minutes is a lesson on how to shoot an action scene. The pacing, the editing, the use of space and characters ... all note perfect. It was shot coherently and visually interesting but in a way that we, as the viewers, know where everything is and how it works together. The best part is, the ending action scene basically contains four characters ... and DOESN'T involve a HUGE MASSIVE CITY DESTROYING EVENT. It's four characters trading places, doing "battle" on two parallel trains. Brilliant sequence ... easily the best action SEQUENCE of the summer.
Very well said, you're turning into the real Lou Mongello.

I wish people would stop saying Lone Ranger is doing as badly or worse than John Carter. Crater made $73 million in its entire domestic run, while Ranger has made $55 million in its first 7 days of release. It's outpacing the gross of Prince of Persia and will probably make more than Princess and the Frog.

Yea Lone Ranger doesn't have that hook of crazy 3D visuals to overcompensate for lack of story or characters like Avatar did, which could sustain it week after week ...

I think Lone Ranger is dead. Unfortunately.

I found it FAR FAR more engaging, fun, and interesting to watch than Avatar.

Hmmm, why didn't the 3d of Up sustain it for weeks and weeks.

Maybe some positive word of mouth will give it a little boost this week. It deserves it.

I saw it and thought it was entertaining but as of Tuesday it is expected to drop approximately 60% from last week. This movies is as dead as the crow Depp wears on his head.

I don't want to encourage this MLP discussion, but this comment (and others) are egregiously inappropriate. It's one thing to not like someone's hobby, it's another to say people with apparent disabilities shouldn't be allowed out in public.

My apologies. If you know my posts I don't intend to offend. If this came off that way, I'm sorry. I'll watch my words more closely.

New still for Saving Mr. Banks. You can now start ranting about all the Disneyland anarchisms involving tree sizes, building colours and so on. :)

And for those who want a direct comparison:

Oh geez... are people really complaining about the sizes of the trees?

I don't want to see Ariel or Stitch walk by when we're supposed to be in the 60's, but it sounds like there are some people who are seriously mad that they did not time travel back to 1962 to film the movie on the real thing.

IMO many things are far more engaging than Avatar
I quote a potato:
Don't be too proud of this cinematic terror James Cameron has constructed. The ability to rip-off Ferngully is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

But now back on topic...whatever that happens to be
