The official name of the company is still thankfully "The Walt Disney Company" however they have removed Walt's name from the title cards in front of the movies and nearly all official branding instances so removing his name from the company is not as absurd a concept as it used to be.

I can't see them doing that. It's absurd that they've gone out and branded everything as simply Disney though. I don't actually see the reasoning for it. I would love to pick an executive brain on that one because the reasoning can't be a good one. The name of the company has a good ring to it though.

I don't get it either. What movie company would want ANY of its movies to fail? Now, I will say that, in this case, I could see why Iger MIGHT not care as much as he would if the film were connected to one of his purchases, like Marvel, but still, a loss is a loss, money is money...

Yeah I'd be willing to bet Iger doesn't want to have earnings calls in which he has to discuss a major blockbuster flop. When you run the tent pole strategy, Wall Street won't love hearing how one of your five movies tanked, let alone 2 in a year span (though different fiscal years).

Judging by the plot synopsis, the only thing Frozen has in common with the actual fairy tale (which is wonderful by the way), is that there is someone called the Snow Queen. And that's it. Kind of tragic really as the fairy tale itself is excellent and unique.

They've struggled for years to come up with an adaptation that they're happy with. Given the amount of times it seems to have been put into development and then shelved I'm not all that surprised that the finished product is such a loose take on the original story; they seem to have just thrown caution to the wind and decided to do it their way rather than get nowhere by trying to stick closely to the source material.

Then take Walt out of the stock name if it has no importance. If they are trying to separate the name Walt from everything then take it out of the stock name or would that create an uproar. Or are they rebranding the company's name quietly?
As of right now I don't think that they are seriously considering removing Walt's name officially from the company but they are surely removing it from nearly all branding materials so I would say the possibility is building traction.

But those threads just get me ...baby ... I can't help myself. They are such trainwrecks. But I shall be back later to see if anyone wants to argue with me about The Lone Ranger or WDW's (and O-Town's) weak summer thus far. Now, pour me a Coke (stolen, please) and let's get ready to rumble ...
I'll pick on the weak summer.:D

Spent a good chunk of yesterday riding the Monorail (we have some WDW newbies with us this trip) and today at Universal. All seemed crowded but, and I think this is a big but, I have no way of telling whether it's 10% more or 10% less crowded than a typical summer day. 10% more crowded at WDW or Uni would have the execs dancing in the streets. 10% less crowded would have them looking for new jobs.

So ...

Unless someone has access to the numbers or a sense of how execs are reacting, I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can claim they know what's going on by just first-hand exposure. Even if you work at the parks, the ebb and flow of the crowd varies so much that it's extremely difficult for one person in one place to get an accurate count of attendance.

IMO I think taking his full name out of stuff is disneys way of cutting back on spending!!!

The less lettering you have to generate on a graphic the cheaper it can be...

Timely Austin Powers reference.

No Shakeshack around ... Burgerfi just opened a few miles from here ... why should I try them?

Excellent taste to their burgers. You really don't have to put anything on them to make them better than any other burger you'll find, or you can load their burgers. Either way works. They won't break the bank either, as they're roughly 6 bucks for a double.

Yeah because people that liked the first Pirates liked it because of Orlando Bloom...
It would give the story more of a familiarity to the audience and his new story of him being the captain of the Flying Dutchman could add a lot to the story. It would also attract more of a female audience. And believe it or not he's a good actor

A bit late to the party...just seeing this now.
( gasps in disbelief )

What the....Fluff.....?
Is Disney so desperate and clueless now as to how to sell their already exsisting ( and always-and-forever popular ) characters that they feel a real need to create silly fluff like this?

All i can think of is My Little Pony looking at this....look, they all have brushable manes and tales!

It looks more like Littlest Pet Shop to me. Either way, gak. :p

And the reason they've struggled is because they believe that female royalty is box-office poison. I hate what they settled on for The Snow Queen. Yes, I know that I haven't seen it yet and that "hate" is a strong word. But I loved the Snow Queen story as a kid, I loved that old animated version I used to see on TV (foreign-made, I believe), and I loved the story about the brave little girl who went on a perilous quest to rescue a frozen-hearted little boy. Now Disney has gutted everything awesome about that fairy tale because of marketing concerns, once again proving that its artistic vision - if it even has any - is about as far removed from Walt's as it can get. Nuts to "Frozen". I will not be seeing it.

You know...I think that's an interesting idea. That could work, depending on how well it was written. Kiera Knightly could be left out of the film entirely (she's waiting for Will at home) - which would be no great loss IMO, and Orlando and Johnny worked pretty well together in the previous films. That's a good thought...

I want to thank @The Mom for killing the soda thread as it allows me the opportunity to get back to more weighty matters (and if you saw all the food I scarfed down at dinner with like four Cokes, you'd get why weighty is a perfect term).

So ... is Pacific Rim just a non-Transformers, Transformers? Cause that's what it looks like to me and I have no desire to see it.

But I would see The Lone Ranger a second time ... really!
