I think I would take complaints about Thanksgiving shopping a lot more seriously if I saw a single complaint about the far larger number of stores that remain open on Fourth of July. To me, that's the bigger holiday.
Of if all the sympathies expressed for retail workers "forced" to work that day also mentioned the tens of thousands of Cast Members who work Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, NYE ... or should WDW go dark on the holidays as well?
If you have a big extended family nearby, then enjoy your Thanksgiving--don't go shopping. But those of us from small families and/or who live nowhere near our hometown, it's just not that big a deal. If I had a job where I could work and make double-time that day, I'd jump at the chance to make money for Christmas.
