first and foremost...very curious to hear what '74 may have to share...very curious

on NGE...my family is likely a target family. we plan things to the nth degree--excel spreadsheet, dining reservations, etc. if/when we can use MDE to book FP+? probably not a bad thing, though we really don't use FP a great deal yet. but having the room keys on my wrist, no wallet? love this idea.

the concept of it i think is great (data mining aside). but the execution and cost overruns make it an albatross. they've gone too far now, would be really hard to back out. as i said earlier....should have been much better testing in place to catch the bugs sooner in more isolated (and less costly) environs.

biggest downer with it is, not only is it more costly, but it is behind schedule to boot.

in 10 years, we consumers may love it...maybe. but how much better for the park would it have been for more refurbs and an expanded monorail?

DL has more attractions but it is geographically smaller yes?
yes. For instance in Fantasyland you are no more than 100ft from the entrance of 4 dark rides and 3 other B/C Ticket attractions. In Tomorrowland, you commonly have 2 or 3 attraction queues utilizing the same buildings/structures (Monorail/Subs/Autopia and Space Mountain/EO)

You will probably get hammered for saying that and not falling in line. But you are not wrong.

You also have to realize the double standard here that if Disney were to let another company build hotels on their property, then they are just giving up, not being creative, etc. But Universal allowing Loews to build/run hotels on property is perfectly fine.

P.S. - Tell the guy who runs the Sox Twitter account that the Rays play in St. Pete, not Tampa ;)
The irony is that I lived in Tampa for 30 years, I just moved to the Boston area this year!

It seems like the chic thing to do right now is to dump on Disney and throw major love to Universal. If your looking at short term bench marks, that may be fair. However, to pretend like a Disney hotel is a glorified Motel 6 while a night at Universal is like a night at the Bellagio is silly. Understand, I hope Disney kicks it into high gear soon too (they need to)! Just think some perspective is necessary, that's all

You guys bring up another point I thought of.
What I find frustrating is the fact he tells us Cleary he has some news he wants to share, but won’t share it. I would much rather instead of being strung along, be told
“Hey guys I have heard X, and Y, but I can’t talk about Z any further due to confidentiality issues, but I’m glad to answer any questions on X, or Y.”
I feel like we are being strung along a little bit, (30 pages latter and nothing noteworthy to report from hin other then I'll tell you guys when I feel like it???) and would overall appreciate to be educated on the information as his nearest convenience!
Yes, this. For all the hype these threads get and all the admiration heaped onto WDW1974, I find this thread to be very low on actual information and very high on and moaning about stuff that is already established. It would be nice if instead of saying "I have a bunch of information that I may or may not share, so stay tuned" if Spirit would just provide the info he's able to share in the first place. At this point, what I've learned from this thread...

1. Universal has some nice hotels
2. NextGen is costing Disney a lot of money.

Wow. Nothing ground breaking or new at all.

But the prose here is nice for TDO and Burbank to read if nothing else.

I don't think anyone is saying that. At least, not until Universal's "value" resort makes Disney's values look like the rundown embarrassments they are.

But Universal's hotels are run and staffed by people that know how to run world class resorts in Loews. Most of the people working at Disney's hotels are below minimim wage paid college kids that don't give a rats about you or your trip.

Don't get me wrong, many of WDW's hotels are beautiful properties and I enjoy staying at them. But if you're asking me to choose between Uni's hotels or WDW's, I'm choosing Uni's every time.

You will know. Quite soon I imagine.
WDW reduced to one single parade for four parks?

Star Wars reduced to one attraction?

Cars reduced to the cliff notes version?

Avatar postponed?

Reduced operating hours of the parks, reduced operating of rides, even ride closures, with the idea that guests are hitting their daily ride quota quicker with NGE?

Oh, the suspense of it all! The Disney Anticipation - on your next trip, what cherished tradition will they have taken away from you this time?

I have never witnessed or experienced that at any of the Disney resort hotels, have always had great friendly caring service. Now at the parks...thats a different story and so that sentence def belongs there.

It depends on the resort, in my experience. The deluxes are usually fine. Nothing spectacular, but fine. Moderates are a mixed bag, and values...well, let's not talk about the values.

That's the heart of matter. There are many of us that simply loved the WDW product and, for me personally, EPCOT Center. We know it can be done and hope that in the end, sanity returns to a company that has become out of touch with reality. The reality, though, is that Comcast has their Universal property churning out terrific attractions and experiences today, something that was once the hallmark of The Walt Disney Company.

Maybe it's just me, but when I saw the trailer for "Saving Mr. Banks" and the "DISNEY" name, rather brand, came across before the spot, it says it all. Not even in a movie trailer that features the founder of this institution can it be anything but the DISNEY brand. Not Walt Disney Pictures, just Disney. Corporate branding of famous names has gone on for generations (e.g., Ford, HP, etc.), but when the film is actually featuring the man, ugh, it just signifies so much that is wrong.

@WDW1974 can you give us any additional insight on what is on the chopping block at the Studios in order to make room for Star Wars Land?

Also, to balance out the theme park cosmos...can you give any info on what will become of Toon Lagoon?
