Hmm. Interesting. I think Id actually go with the new cast if I were doing a Star Trek attraction. Guess just thinking of what they would do with the old cast... Probably sounds bad, but they are old and honestly much of my generation knows Shatner from the Priceline commercials better than the original Star Trek. Im unusual in that I've at least seen some of the first movies though I've mostly seen the Next Gen movies. Just not sure the recognition is there and no offense, but I don't want/need to see new filmed seems of old and fat Kirk... Guess if they maybe went a dark ride/AA route it could work but Star Trek seems more geared to a faster paced attraction.

I think the Next Gen cast is almost as recognizable as the original cast. I really don't know if the new stuff has much mainstream appeal outside of true Star Trek fans.

Speaking as somebody who has never seriously sat down and watched the series (a few episodes I barely remember as a kid don't really count), I really enjoy the new movies.

The first new movie did extremely extremely well... And even got some traction overseas, which is saying something since Trek movies generally do poorly outside the US (and were doing poorly in US). That wasnt all just "true Trek fans" going to see the movie. They've actually broadened the appeal a lot at the expense of ing off some of those "true Trek fans." Wikipedia is neve the greatest source for anything but I would give the article on there a quick read. The new one is also projected to do well and is getting pretty solid reviews, as did the first.

I'm not much a Trek fan. Never seem the tv shows nor do I want to. I've seen Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country and then From First Contacr on thanks to my dad. And I thought they were all ok. Not super great. But ok. But I own the new Star Trek movie if that's an indication that the new movies definitely resonate a bit better with my generation than the old stuff.

MGM is the worst of them..

The problem with them IMO is they've gone for this realistic aspect when drawing out the maps... which look slick... do they really serve the true purpose? The stylized maps in the past were done that way to emphasize some things while making other things LESS obvious.. and this is intentional. The more realistic you make things, the more you challenge the suspension of disbelief when you realize just how close things are and how they back up to each other, etc.

The purpose of the new maps is consistency, specifically consistency with the maps in My Disney Experience. While emphasized or oversized icons and drawings draw attention, they can be pretty difficult when trying to give GPS pinpoints. I honestly like the new maps, just because they are more detailed and really give a good sense of actual distances. I am a little biased though, because I wrote papers in Grad School about the possibilities of mobile apps in theme parks and what they could be used to do. I'm hoping someday there might be some increased way finding capabilities in Disney's app. If nothing else, the new maps make armchair imagineering easy, put some trace paper on top, and you have a footprint ready to go for anything you can imagine.

Sorry to derail the thread, but has anyone else noticed there are no construction images of TDS online. If anyone has images please post.
Edit: images of dirt/grass patches don't count.

There has been no construction yet. The only thing that has happened so far is they put up walls around Comedy Warehouse so that demolition can begin:

Mystery Mine is a top notch attraction. Love it.
But, yeah...it's gotten rough since I last ride it. Should be fixable, though. Probably a car/wheel assembly problem.

I haven't, but I hear good things. Ripley's owns it and about four other attractions in G'burg.

Ah Pigeon Forge... I have a love/hate relationship with the area. Been there too many times. A bit late to the conversation, but have you been to the water park there? Looking forward to the new water coaster this year. I think it's a really nice park for what it is.

Dolly has really stepped up her game these last few years. While they may be hit or miss, Dollywood debuts a new major attraction every year and that's a pretty big feat for a park that size. Love the wooden roller coaster, Thunderhead. Can't do the Dixie Stampede though...eating a chicken in a place that smells like horse excrement just isn't quite my idea of a good time...

Also, for aquariums come down to Chattanooga...a great aquarium that has done great things for the revitalization of the city. This is my "neighborhood", so I may be biased.

In a way I don't know of any other major space themed franchises that would be good....in another way, I'm not sure how they would do it...since there's now 5 separate series and now a rebooted movie franchise.
I'm guessing they'd go with the reboot since the original actors are VERY old, but TNG could work.

Sorry, I disagree with this...there's 3 excellent movies, 2 decent water rides and the incredible American Adventure show which IMO has yet to be beaten as far as stage shows at Disney...all in the World Showcase.

Sure, if you skip all of those, don't enjoy shopping for things you can't find anywhere else in the U.S., then maybe you'll have a different opinion.

The movies were OK, Mexico water ride was indeed cute (and thankfully didn't smell like Maelstrom did). So yeah, I'll give you that.

As for the shopping... there's only so much that'll fit in a suitcase. Not to mention obscenely high prices on some things ($150 for a beer stein with Mickey on it... really?) and add in the crowds in the shops plus the lack of AC in most- especially on a hot day where not a lot of shade to be found (which also brought more people into the shops) it did not make for a comfortable shopping experience either.

The only pavillion that was easy for shopping was Mexico.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I'm really sorry I didn't/don't like Epcot more than this. It's really left me feeling rather sad.

@Sneezy62, I was not asked about my experience at BoG, but I did stop at the booth outside afterwards to ask why, after paying nearly $6 for drinks- it was a self-serve and no one bothered to check reciepts. I was told they go on the "honor system" and will remember that for next time... I didn't have a chance to do a full trip report last night, but I did start typing it up. :) It'll be a long one. LOL

So ... is this system different from virtually any fast food resaturant in the U.S.? Am I missing something? Or do you really plan on smuggling in a used paper cup for your next visit to save $3?

71, LOL no. :) It's just odd that the ordering line is a solid room away from the self-serve drinks and no one was checking reciepts. That was a joke, btw. I'm not gonna cheap out on a $3 drink when I just shelled out $20 for lunch.

I guess I wasn't expecting Disney to have a relaxed take on something they could be monitoring (ie, $$$$) to make sure people are paying. There was a CM standing there, but not checking reciepts or ...really doing anything.

Not sure what kind of contract Disney has with Coke, but they probably just pay a flat yearly fee to use their services, an get as much soda as they need, so it really isn't costing them extra...a bag of coke usually runs about 50-60 bucks and u get so many hundreds of serving per bag...

That's definitely not how it works.

That IS how a lot of large companies do business with soda distributors! I had said I wasn't sure, but a lot of bigger corporations do business with the soda guys that way! How do u think you are able to get so many free drinks when u go to Vegas? Or even at. Fast food place that let's you self serve. If you know the REAL answer, then please tell us. I work in the restaraunt industry, and every place is a little different, we didn't have yearly price contracts with them, hence why I know the price per bag, but I do know that a lot of larger places do use contracts where they pay a flat yearly fee, an get provided with a much soda as they need!

I think they give you free drinks in Vegas so that...

1. You don't leave your gambling spot
2. You spend money more freely

But I have no actual idea. Not like I was there when this began and the guys in charge told me!!

Just guessing. :)

It's like you said: you get hundreds of servings from each bag of syrup. The cost per fountain drink is pretty darn low... cheap enough to give away in certain situations.

Also, if you're just getting a free Coke in the casino, you're doing it wrong.
