Why? You hire a person whom you assume to have good upstanding moral character & have general business ethics. Their resume says what it say. It comes out that there's embellishment and its rather serious in some peoples opinion. Why wouldn't you have a problem with this?

The over all question I pose to the group: Why are you so willing to accept lying on a resume?

(The you is a general you, not picking on anyone there.)
Same reason most people on these boards have no problem with rampant IP theft, they either don't know any better or have a vested interest in allowing it to go on

Apples and oranges. Stealing mine (or Bricker's) photos is a completely different, eggregious action that will also result in a negative response.

However you raise a point with it in the same breath, the world seems comfortable with taking things that isnt theirs with a simple click of a mouse, so lying on a resume isnt that bad a thing either (in their eyes).

And completely off-topic: Hey HBO - My Friends wouldnt download "Game of Thrones" if we could stream it online like HULU/Netflix. Cable companies are the worst....

Yeah no. That's all I got to add to this. Agreed 100%, Dave. To stop 'us' from downloading it "illegally", offer it to 'us'- the people who refuse to pay $100/month for garbage cable tv, PLUS an HBO subscription and/or the people who DO have it and have to, ya know, SLEEP on a Sunday night for a smaller price to pay, like Hulu, Netflix. I'd LOVE that.

And wouldn't be a thief.

An HBO subscription is a huge key to finding happiness in life. Worth every penny. (I'd even pay the Iron Price for it...)

It's analogous why you can't just pay for your hotel bed and shower, but not the coffee pot, the valet, not the hotel, nor the food court. People are not willing to pay the TRUE cost of something, so costs are aggregated and distributed over prices in a way to achieve the targeted revenue the business desires.

People have this false belief that if I only want 1/10th of the product, if I were to pay ala-carte I would only need to pay 1/10th the current price. That's fantasy and not real - most businesses are not linear in their costs that scale all the way down to a single unit. Or if they tried, no one would be willing to pay that type of price.

Agreed.

Never understood the hatred of HBO or Cable.

Simple.. the scale of cost aggitated by the explosion of content while a viewer's desire to consume content has not grown at the same rate of 'available' content. So put those together.. and the cable guy says "I need to raise prices because of content fees..." and the views say "well I didn't want all that content to start with!! I only wanted A,Z,Y, and D". So now they perceive the 'excess' content not only as just 'not for me' but part of the reason for the price increases. IE Forcing me to buy what I don't want..

I've always wanted a la carte cable.

Anyhoo, to answer @PhotoDave219 's question - I think most would agree that lying on a resume is morally wrong. In my line of work (research chemist) it can lead to death (I work with torches, HF, HNO3, vacuum systems, liquid nitrogen, high voltage, blood, brain, feces, and other tissue samples, etc.) and I've discovered a few "creative exaggeraters" during the interview process (people come clean when you mention death as a side effect not knowing what you're doing). However, this is not a side effect of writing puff pieces for Disney on the internetz. The big question is does Disney care or do they think JFB does a super duper job on the internetz, so it's all cool.

Interesting analogy, however the caveat is that there is this glorious cable that brings the internet into my house, where I can get the same content. I've walked away from Cable with no regrets. I dont miss anything. My brother is the same way.

The internet only delivers the content.. it doesn't create it. You can prefer a different distribution method.. but the man needs to get paid somewhere.. somehow. Pick your poison.

It's not that I 'hate' cable or Hbo. I used to have both! And for 10 years! Last July I made the decision that I no longer wanted either- there wasn't really anything worth watching on at the time, and I wanted to save $150 a month. So I cancelled it. :)

Edit to add: Like Dave, I cancelled it, and regret nothing. I don't miss it.
