SpectroMagic being prepped for return..

EXACTLY the point you were trying to make in the 2 coasts thread!
And true....just look at all the excitement.
The big spirited change has finally arrived!

Sort of ... it's just amazing how predictable WDW fans can be. Can you imagine if Disney attempted something like this in Anaheim?

Also, I wonder how many parades TDL has had since 2001 (both regular and special/seasonal) since the snowglobe parade began at MK (itself replacing the 'special' 25th anniversary Remember the Magic Parade, which 'only' ran five looooong years).

Actually I had first welcomed the return of the MSEP because it was a warm childhood memory of the 1980ies, of my first visits to the World. But when I heard the present version in 2010(?) for the first time I immediately recognized that they had altered the music score and I have to admit, I always had a more lukewarm feeling about the new version. Spectromagic had a great score and after several MSEPs in the last 2 years I definitely would welcome a return of this parade.

I'm with you on the first half, as I grew up with MSEP. But I would much rather get a brand new parade than yet another return of an archived one.

This has been a long time coming... There were threads on this a year ago that it could be coming back anytime between this summer and next. I think the opening of phases of Fantasyland was always going to be the trigger - it was just a matter of when would be the best time to make the switch back to Spectro.

They have to stage everything so that they can market something "new" in phases. First the Circus. Then BatB restaurant. Then Mermaid. Then a big meet-n-greet in a valuable dark ride building. Then the mine ride.

Somewhere in there, they'll throw in a "new" parade (Spectro with a coat of paint). We all knew MSEP wasn't forever, but we were all also hoping they were plussing Spectro or tearing it down to the framework and preparing to deliver us a NEW nighttime entertainment option.

I still love Spectro. And having not seen it since 1997 i'm looking forward to it. Though i'm also definitely for a change in the parade. It's the music that I really love to be honest. I would love to see a Dreamlights style upgrade to Spectro with the same soundtrack (though improved upon in the same way as Dreamlights), but new and majorly improved floats. Spectro however still has the greatest parade soundtrack IMHO. My fanboy heart swells with joy when I hear that theme, I confess it gives me some chills down my spine.

Not a fan of MSEP's music. I rather dislike the soundtrack in fact. So I won't be mourning its loss at all.

Hearing the MSEP soundtrack again (well, whatever version it is) was nostalgic enough for me. And yes, I too loved the music of Spectro...but technology has come a long way since christmas lights stapled to plywood and some fiber optic strands. A new LOOK would be much appreciated.

This is exactly it. I talked to a friend I have in MK entertainment, and was told to not look forward to this until early next year. The Disney marketing machine has enough "new experiences" to promote with Fantasyland for the remainder of the year, along with Test Track. And MK entertainment is not far away from Halloween and Christmas preparations, so they will likely push to hold off on Spectro's return this year. Basically, it would take pressure or a command from way up the ladder to bring it back before 2013...

I like Spectro more than MSEP so I'll be happy to see it return from that aspect. That being said, it'd be nice if they refurbed/revamped/re somethinged it so that it isn't the exact same parade with new paint. It's such an exciting parade and they could do so much with today's technology...though I don't hold out any hope they'd spend the money on something like that.

I don't disagree with that, I fully support massive visual upgrades and overhauls as well as entirely changing the floats. Like I said, a Dreamlights version of Spectro would be my ideal new parade for WDW. Dreamlights updated the MSEP so that it was up to standards with current times and it really impressed me on how to rekindle interest in an old parade the RIGHT way (it even remixed the song in a way that ended up being much better than it was). I think such an evolution in the same vein can also happen to Spectro, combining new and old elements in a way that pleases old and new guests. That way the nostalgia of the song itself can remain (and IMO the soundtrack still holds up to this day), but we get a technologically new parade with all new floats and tech. They can even upgrade the soundtrack similar to how they redid the sountrack to MSEP in Dreamlights. Same theme with some changes here and there.

It's really the song i'm highly loyal to. I'm most certainly not against any sort of changes to the floats or tech. Just that song always pulls at my heart.

LOL - we will see. Not to be completely cynical - but individuals that high up who would have that power seem to care very little about entertainment - beyond the marketing and bringing in numbers part of it. It's very strategic. They aren't going to demand Spectro come back because they miss it. It will come at a time when attendance is slacking when it needs to come up a bit... Right now, and till the end of the year - numbers will be pretty good.

I would be ridiculously happy if this were true! The electrical parade has grown on me a lot from Hating it when it first came back, to sort of tolerating it and even enjoying a few small moments of it, now. And let me point out that Spectromagic isn't perfect.

That being said, I much prefer Spectro over DEP. I agree that a dreamlights version of Spectro would be ideal, but if we can't have that, I'll take the coat of paint on my Spectro!

Ok ill rephrase it; the rumor says it has been forced

I wouldn't read to closely into the rumor. It really didn't tell you anything you didn't already know for months and months now. The "near future" could very well be Spring 2013. If they were going to bring it back this year - it would have been done this summer to anchor a summer promotion. There is no reason to bring it back this year given all that is already going on. Not saying it can't happen - just saying it wouldn't make much sense from the standpoint of those making those decisions..

My gut (no inside info) has been saying it will come back when they debut the new day parade and have a media event making a big deal about Fantasyland. I sense that being either next spring or fall.
