The first line is still used on the new version though. That and the very final line were too beautiful bookends. The first line quoted here really set you up for something fantastic. The last line just hammered it home.
Yes, not like Iron's kid with the teenage voice in the preteen body.:dazzle::ROFLOL:What I miss most about the Cronkite narration is the child hawking the newspapers, "Extra! Extra! New York Daily!"
Agreed...the script could be fixed in a *few* places (ABC's/Taxes). Most of it is pretty good. Especially the new intro to the 180 Top and Matrix Tunnel. That might actually work better then the past. It seems more AHA! EARTH! than the past versions. In fairness to Judi Dench, the script, not the narrator, is the problem with SSE. If they'd given this script to Patrick Stewart I might like it even less, since I would've had higher hopes for it.

should we bring back Mousermerf and have him do a haiku? :ROFLOL:
I think we can all agree that James Earl Jones would have been the most kicka$$ narrator that SSE could have had :sohappy:. They could have just reused the Irons version script and modded it for the new scenes, it would have been perfect. A little freshening of the descent, new music, and there, voila!, you've got an awesome ride.
But no. Now we have this corny, condescending drivel clucked at us by James Bond's grandma. As if we are all a bunch of British school children. Well maybe I don't WANT to thank the friggin Phoenicians! No! Not one bit! Oh whats that? We hit a road block huh? But wait! Its ok, there was a backup system! Hey guys, its cool, she used a hip word to relate to us! Hey, now we get to play with a touch screen and watch some embarrassingly gaudy cartoons that suspiciously resemble a certain old Hanna-Barbera show!
Whew.........had to get that out.Somewhere, right now, Walter Cronkite is turning over in his grave. Jeremy Irons would be too if he happened to be dead, but currently is not.

Rock on, fantastic post, and agreee 110%. I do like Dench's voice and narration though, its just the script. And I do love the Phoenicians even if I am forced to thank them for learning my ABC'S . But yeah they could have saved some money by not ripping out the descent I would think, and just did a fresh up instead with some changes thrown in. For some reason Epcot loves to gutt everything, Imag, Horizons, WofMotion, SE descent. And what there is of music now is a joke, and not the least bit memorable or even hearable. It has no flow like the last one.
Therein lies the root of almost every complaint that I have with changes done to EPCOT over the last 15 years. It seems they can't simply freshen something up, and when they do........we get Ellen........for 13 years......![]()
EPCOT is the only park not to have something it had on opening day stay the same. While that's the nature of the park, some things, like JII could have been left alone.
Ellen was fine......11 years ago. It's just very dated now.
What part of Ellen is dated?
Everything?
Cell phone, fashion, Jeopardy, and even some of the info could be stepped up for today's issues.
It's still a good attraction, though. Does it's job well.
I thought the thread was a major thread bump when I saw the title.Ah....This fun topic, again.![]()
SSE has a great soundtrack...If you could hear it.True and thats probably why they havent bothered with it, even though its a bit outdated its still in context on things. That and probably because of no sponsor. I love the soundtrack to Energy. Too bad he didnt go the same wonderful route with SE.
For all intensive purposes, it is...:lookaroun:lol:I thought the thread was a major thread bump when I saw the title.

The technologies represented are dated. They were supposed to look into the future of communication, and many of the displays and scenes in the descent are realities today (ie, the AMAZING video phone!). It was a good finale, and it was time for it to go. Just perhaps with anything better than we have now.
I'd love to know what the original plan was, cause I know that wasn't it.
