Spaceship Earth being turned into a roller coaster?

And that is exactly what Disney is lacking!! Disney has only 6 extreme rides (and correct me if Im wrong) Space Mountain, ToT, RnRC, Mission: SPACE, Test Track and Dinosaur (if you consider that an extreme ride). But MK is getting boring everytime I go... I like Disney a lot, but I'm getting tired of riding the same damn rides everytime I go... same goes for MGM and EPCOT...

Don't get angry at me or anything please... this is my opinion.... and I think WDW is in need of some serious updates and new attractions... for
everyone!! Not only tots...

Alex, if "extreme rides" is the only thing you're interested in then maybe Disney isn't the place for you. As Mitch RX7 stated-"Disney is about encompassing you in a story." It's a place to create memories for you and your families.

Thrills rides are great and that's why there are amusement parks (e.g. Six Flags). You take a trip to the amusement park, but a vacation to Disney.

Hey WDWResort, for some reason people like you and me are be forbidden to think that WDW needs more thrills even though it does, and I agree that they need serious updates for everyone not just the little kids. But sadly most everyone here believes Disney should only cater to that group of people.

You're misinterpreting most of those posts. Go back and read them, because no one has said that.

I really don't know what Disney World you are talking about, but there have been very few attractions added in the last ten years that are for little kids. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Millionaire, the new stunt show at MGM, not geared toward little kids
Test Track, Mission: SPACE, Soarin', not geared toward little kids (MOST of Epcot is not geared toward kids--it has a very mature theming)
At the Magic Kingdom, I hesitate to say PhilharMagic is geared toward kids--it is kid-friendly, but just about everyone loves it.
Just about nothing at Animal Kingdom is even suited for little kids (Dino, Primeval, Kali, EVEREST), and even Kilimanjaro has a more mature theming to it while It's Tough to be a Bug! scares little kids. Meanwhile, what kiddie attractions have been added?

MGM-Playhouse Disney and I can't think of anything else
Epcot--Journey into Imagination, perhaps, and you MIGHT argue Universe of Energy, but even it has themes that are best suited for those guests with Adult Park Tickets
Animal Kingdom--Tricera Top Spin (does that even count?)
Magic Kingdom--Pooh and perhaps Stitch

Disney makes attractions that are almost all kid-friendly because THAT MAKES MONEY, but most of the recent attractions (while kid-friendly) have very mature theming that would go over the heads of most little kids and there have been quite a few thrill rides in the works. I love thrill rides and find no shortage...

I think most people on these forums think that thrill rides are FINE at WDW, but in a park that is 300 acres in size, like Epcot, why can't they leave the classic rides like Spaceship Earth similar to how they are now (with some updates, but keep the same music!) and build thrill rides in some of the open space? This is not Disneyland where space is tight. I would rather see WDW's theme parks EXPAND, not change completely. Keep attractions that already exist similar to how they are now, in the future, and just add new rides (one would think with the yearly increase in park ticket pricing, we would get more attractions). I'm not saying moves like replacing Food Rocks! with Soarin' are bad (I wasn't a HUGE Food Rocks! fan), but it certainly wasn't necessary. Rides like Spaceship Earth, though, which I love, should never become 4 minute thrill rides. It is just such a brilliant attractions, and even most kids who ride say "that was kewl!" It is better than most history lessons I have received...and I actually like the end of the ride. True, it appears cheaper and more empty than the rest of the ride, but the combination of the outstanding music with the fiber optic and other lighting effects are just kewl to me...and the fact that they took that screaming girl out at the end of the ride is something I am very pleased with! Also, as for the tv's in the opening scene, I understand their necessity from the lawsuit perspective, but why can't they be in the queue line, instead? Just put them along that final walkway to the entrance that everyone has to pass by, and that should make the lawyers happy. Just add the "please take small children by the hand" message to those videos...it wouldn't detract from the ride, so I'd be happy.

I think out of all 4 Disney parks, Epcot is in the best shape. With Test Track still going strong, Mission Space being an amazing ride, and Soarin' on the way.

I wouldn't be against a SE rehab though.

But hey... a roller coaster won't hurt. :p
Ok ok ok...I like coasters, but SSE is not a place for a coaster...How about WoL pavilion? Call the coaster Body Wars even, and have a coaster thats centered around the same concept as Body Wars...add an interactive and informative (updated) post show/ queue area....just leave SSE alone...update it...replace the AAs with newer ones...update scenes...but don't completely do away with the SSE concept...

Now there's an idea, leave WOL basically the way it is, but take out body wars and put in a E-Ticket ride called DNA Twister. Hmm...

that's...odd lol I trust the train would be called a DNA Helicase-mobile? I hope the Imagineers do some biological research in designing any future attractions for Wonders of Life...any Imagineers reading these forums can feel free to PM me if they want textbook recommendations lol

SE needs a quality makeover in the same vein of what COP needs... a quality updating, repair/replace/enhance of the existing ride. Anyone who has said that putting a new ride (be it a coaster or not) inside SE is impossible is either fooling themselves, has no knowledge of construction, or both. Is it possible? Absolutely. Is it practical?? Probably not, but remember, this is Disney we're talking about.

The discussion of a coaster in Spaceship Earth has to do with the structural stability of the building, itself. Can it support the pressure that a high speed coaster would create? I don't know, but I do know Disney has already built rides on structures that could not support them--Rocket Rods and the 1998 version of Space Mountain at Disneyland with new audio systems. Both of these projects completely ruined the tracks supporting them, so Space Mountain's track is being replaced for tens of millions of dollars and Rocket Rods/ PeopleMover will never work again. This is Disney and they have already screwed up twice. If I didn't know better, I'd think they had some engineers working at Imagineering...

Without engineering, Imagineering would merely be imagining.... and what fun is that if you can't build what you imagine? ;)

lol...maybe the engineers were on vacation when they were building Rocket Rods and DL's 1998 Space Mountain?

Maybe they shoulda put on the warning sign: "Rocket Rods: What happens when our good Imagineers take a vacation to Disney World" or "Rocket Rods: Designed by the best students in Mrs. Crawley's 9th grade algebra class"
