Latest rumors are Nextel or Motorolia taking over sponsorship.
Interesting...I wonder if any money will be ditched out, from the next sponsor, for somekind of small rehab...

yeah, Dave. It's not going to happen, I know. That's why I've been saying that the rumor should die. But, I would love to see Nextel or Motorolla or Micorsoft or whoever take over sponsorship and do a little last-third refurb. I'd be very open to that.

GRIZZLY UPDATE! We just learned that the plans to change Spaceship Earth have RESURFACED.

I REPEAT - the ideas have RESURFACED at WDI.

Brace yourselves. This is gonna be another hot summer.

Hey Grizz

Does WDI have a problem the older rides at Epcot?

No they dont have a problem, the american public does and they are finally starting to realize this

If the American Public has such a problem, then why is the attendance at the levels that they are?

Uhh. . . no.

Brisem - What WDI?

Honestly, I'm sure the head haunchos and those affectionate about the value of Epcot are concerned. . . but the little budget they are given does not allow them to keep the full experience (i.e. "expensive" Audio-Animatronics).

It all roots down to management. Michael. Eisner.

As demonstrated by this board, the American public loves Spaceship Earth.

Update it, DON'T RUIN IT.

Decision comes from plans to "update" Epcot in the cheapest way possible = SCREEN TECHNOLOGY. Sure, it will be expensive to make the area more or less "gutted." Ha!

Time to sharpen the claws!

It can be done

Sorry to correct everyone but a roller coaster can be done and a good one at that. It would be something like space mountain but far better with it being faster and haveing a big drop and a sudden stop. This has been done in Rust, Germany in the Black forest region, I believe. The theme park is called Europa Park and is a major clone of Walt Disney World. Might be one of the reasons the Disney Paris doesn't do to well is because this place is better. Well there is the same ball structure there and on the ground floor there is a Space history part and an esculator that takes you to the second floor. There you get in a line and on to the coaster. You get strapped in and heres the fun. The coaster starts to go forward and up a spiral lift, all in the dark and then when it gets to the top of the sphere it does a sudden drop and you go flying through the sphere and at the end it suddenly stops and back into the loading area the end. The thing is the coaster isn't connected to the outer part of the sphere but built in it so the coaster doesn't cause and structural movement to the whole. The link to this sphere is http://www.europapark.de/index.php?id=806&lang=en and the ride is called eurosat.

Everyone have a good day

I like SSE... it's relaxing... and the music is really really cool. But hey... a roller coaster won't hurt. :p

Goddamnit!!! No! No rollercoaster! You wanna build a new coaster, I'm down. Let's go. I'm all about it. but, SSE isn't supossed to be a coaster.
All the rides in a theme park don't have to be roller coasters. That's what makes Disney, Disney.

Damn!

Ummmm....yeah...that's the photo I posted a year or so ago and again in this thread.
Difference is that Eurosat was built from the ground up to hold a coaster, Spaceship Earth was not.
SE can not and will not be gutted for a coaster. Can't be done structurally without major demolition and rebuilding of a large part of the structure. Millions and millions dollars we're talking.
From what I hear, any reworking of the attraction will use the existion framework inside the sphere.

Maybe they will hook a coaster to the current omnimover track but it will run in reverse. So the entrance will become the exit and the slow downward exit will be the lift hill. Then you can go whizzing past history in reverse really fast. It'll make it much tougher to see which sections need updating and save milions.

(sorry, had to do it, honestly I hope they don't change the basic ride) ;)

And that is exactly what Disney is lacking!! Disney has only 6 extreme rides (and correct me if Im wrong) Space Mountain, ToT, RnRC, Mission: SPACE, Test Track and Dinosaur (if you consider that an extreme ride). But MK is getting boring everytime I go... I like Disney a lot, but I'm getting tired of riding the same damn rides everytime I go... same goes for MGM and EPCOT...

Don't get angry at me or anything please... this is my opinion.... and I think WDW is in need of some serious updates and new attractions... for everyone!! Not only tots...

I guess that all depends on each person's opinion of an extreme ride. Personally I don't think Disney has *extreme rides*. To me an extreme ride is something you find at an Amusement Park like CP's coasters over 200+ feet, maybe bungee jumping.

But, given your classification I think you are missing some other important one's on your list. Splash Mountain, Star Tours, and (the currently closed) Body Wars.

I don't think (and hope) Disney will ever have an *extreme ride* since the rides at WDW are supposed to encompass you in the telling of a story. If I want extreme rides I spend a day at an amusement park. If I want to thoroughly enjoy myself in an immersive experience I spend at least seven days on a relaxing Disney Vacation. The longest time I've spent at an amusement park was two days. I could live at WDW and die happy. :D
