For me, I don't have a problem with an extended SM rehab. If it needs to be done, then so be it. What I have a problem with is IF Disney decided to close it early January instead of waiting 2 weeks for Splash to reopen. That 2 weeks will mean nothing to Disney, but will mean an awful lot to visitors who would lose out on the 2 most popular attractions.

I can't even see how that's an arguable point.

I agree. I think two major attractions in the same park would be a bad idea. However, I wouldn't let it be the end of my trip because I've sadly been there and done that. In 2007, we were there when SSE and HM were closed. I really let the HM get the best of me on that trip (which I later came to regret). Isn't it funny how a WDW trip can teach you a lesson about life? Sometimes, we're just better to roll with the punches. That was the worst trip to WDW we ever had largely because of my attitude about the HM being closed. (Our 2008trip was incredible and made up for it, though.) Now that the super promotion is going on, we booked a 2009 trip. I'm really glad I'm going into it with a better atttude about closures. That would be my advice to everyone else. I complained more than anyone about the HM and SSE and all that complaining did was make me unhappy. It didn't change the situation. The people I feel sorry for are the ones that will never get to experience the attraction because this is their only trip to WDW (not people like me who are simply mad because one of their many trips will be without a certain ride).

When are they even going to make the Space refurb official? It's November and January is right around the corner. When the HM went down in 2007, I think they gave ample notice.

Except we're arguing about two E Tickets being closed in the same park. You're talking about two attractions being closed in tow different parks. Definitely not the same.

Personally, I don't think Disney is stupid enough to close both SM and Splash at the same time, and that's exactly why there haven't been any set dates for SM's closing as of yet.

Sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was equating 2007 with what Jan. 2009 may shape up to be. I was just commenting on how closures can be upsetting and trip-ruining if you allow them to be.

LOUD NOISES!
Holy cow, people, let's tone it down a bit. There's a line between a debate and a fisticuffs, and you have crossed that line.

Maybe it's time this thread be left to only new information on any actual/rumored Refurb?

Clearly, there's a large population of both "leave it open" and "close 'er down" sects. More power to each opinion, but the last several pages have just been a back and forth.

Yea, I don't have to read the thread. Problem is, I have an active interest in SM and any real news as both a former favorite attraction and related to an upcoming trip. I also don't want to miss a real news/rumor update.

I say former favorite, because in its degenerating state, I don't appreciate the whiplash feel it offers today.

It is closing. Get used to it. Spalsh might or might not clash. The HoP will. Why do you think they made it so hard to complain now at City hall?

Hmm, the only thing I've ever done at City Hall was request a 1st Time Guest button for my daughter, I've never thought to complain about closed attractions. Those poor CM's. I'm firmly in the close 'er down camp and the sooner they do the sooner it can re-open.

Hopefully it gets more than some new make-up.

On my last trip in June. It broke down a ton!! =[ i am sad to see it have a refurb because im gonna miss it ,but its deff needed

Could it be that they have to close down Space Mountain because they want to install energy-efficient motors and hi efficiency air conditioning? This may not be possible to do overnight. Also, perhaps it is less expensive to just replace the whole track rather than keep patching it. I'm going to start another thread about Disney and energy, becuase the electric bill for the place must be huge.

"Vote yes, vote yes! Vote for Space's Refurb,..."

"Can someone please O-pen up a window?"

"But it's hot, as hell, in Glendale, Cal-i-for-ni-a!"

"Can someone please O-pen up a window?"

"TOO MAN-Y FLIES, TO-OO MANY FLIES!"

"Vote yes, vote yes!"

This is the 1776 Take over of WDWMagic. It's official.:D

I have never seen this musical, but with all this recent hoopla I'm thinking I should check it out, yes?

What's this, what did I miss??!!

In case some of you don't know, they made a film version in 1972. It was re-released in 2002 on DVD, billed as a "Restored Director's Cut".

You know, I really like musicals, but I actually think the songs are the worst part of this film (never seen it on stage). I first caught this on television, came in the middle, and must have just missed the last number, because I watched for ten minutes before someone broke out into song. I was enjoying it up to then. I've since seen the whole thing and I'm still of my original opinion. It's a cute take on that story that manages to be entertaining and educational at the same time. But the songs for me are not strong, and seem to have a different tone than the rest of the film. Whereas the speaking portions make Ben Franklin, for example, look smart, quirky, and epicurean, which he was, the songs just make him look silly.

I know I'm in the minority but I think the songs themselves are in fact quite good. I know that if it weren't for "But, Mr. Adams" I wouldn't know all the deceleration committee members and their respective colonies. I also find them to be very entertaining on their own ("Lees of Old Virginia" and "He Plays the Violin" especially).

What I like about 1776 is that it is not a musical where you can just get away with singing and dancing and just hope nobody notices your acting skills. It's smartly written and requires decent acting skills to carry it out, but at the same time it would not be the same without the songs. This is especially true of the song "Molasses to Rum", the scene would certainly (or Certain-LEE as Richard would put it) not have the same dramatic impact without it. The same is true for "Cool, Cool Considerate Men" and "Momma, Look Sharp" IMO as well.

What does this have to do with Space Mountain?

How about people would rather talk about 1776 than Space Mountain's extremely depressing lack of refurb (of which there are plenty of threads about). Is there a rule that says threads can't be slightly de-railed?

Also did you not hear Explorer about the whole 1776 take over of wdwmagic.com? :lookaroun
