Bleh... I heard that most refurbs at MK are off... And that CM shifts are getting cut...and such attractions such as One Man's Dream is now only opened until 3pm to cut shifts for the 2nd half of the day...

guys, don't expect any major refurbs or new attractions anytime soon. and since we're in crunch time for WDW 40, I have a guess that this milestone event is gonna blow bigtime...we better all learn to love American Idol.

oh, and I haven't seen 1776 and I didn't read the thread drift on it..but just since fellow disney fans are talking about liking it I've just added it to my Netflix queue... thanks!

Could it be that they have to close down Space Mountain because they want to install energy-efficient motors and hi efficiency air conditioning? This may not be possible to do overnight. Also, perhaps it is less expensive to just replace the whole track rather than keep patching it. I'm going to start another thread about Disney and energy, becuase the electric bill for the place must be huge.

Disney has their own power plant behind MK. Epcot also has one and I think their might be more on the property as well.

Even if they had a power plant on property, it's not like you build it and you have free energy for life.

There are extremely high costs for running such an operation, and I'm sure power costs factor into many decisions at any major resort area.

Based on the continuing economic spiral, anything Disney does above required maintenance and upkeep should be appreciated. My company just cut all unnecessary travel (and we're a sales organization that prides ourselves on our relationships both internal and external) as well as put in a full fledge hiring freeze that includes a review of all position requests even replacing field sales/service personnel.

We're at the start of a potential spiral of death. Corporate cutbacks, consumer spending cuts, deflation/price stagnation, corporate cutbacks, consumer spending cuts, deflations/price stagnation...

The price of gas is nice relief but the price fall is a result of a bad situation.

Marni, I know everything you say is true, I trust you 100%. Just out of interest, do you work for Disney? Sorry if asked before

Sadly I don't believe he does. I'm just hoping he writes a history of WDW book someday. I think it would be a big seller as he knows so much and there are many amazing stories.

So, if the refurb is still on, I would think we'd have already heard SOMETHING if it were still on for Jan, right? Are we looking at a delay now as well? I thought I'd heard April once upon a time...?

It will happen. 6-9 months long. Some changes, not as many as planned, but more than enough to be different. Just.
"More than enough to be different"? That's interesting...

Do these plans involve enclosing the loading area? The light leakage and the postshow are the biggest problems right now. If the refurb addresses those issues and nothing else, I'd still be happy, even though a full-blown, DL-style refurb is what they should have done in the first place.
