Space Mountain news update?

That'd make the most sense. Doing cosmetic work before you drag in new track would be quite silly.

Kinda...but replacing the track and supports will require tearing out most of the existing scenery anyway.
So I guess they could pull everything out, rebuild the track and run without scenery until phase 2....but I kinda doubt it.
Gets stranger and stranger....

Hah! Yeah.
I was going up the lift last week and couldn barely see the guys inside the space station due to the cloudy windows. I kinda wondered what they were up to in there to fog the window up so much....:lookaroun

Heavy breathing because they know they're getting a little love in a month?

What scenery? I think Disco H20 has better scenery than SM right now.

Meaning new track is now phase 2?
Seriously...the whole SM thing is giving me a headache.:brick:
Nono... new track is now planned for this rehab as ya know. A 2 phased rehab would have had it added later.

The lift hills are a mess... dirty windows, blown lighting, illegible 3 secs to lift off sign on Omega, the same sign on Alpha has not worked for years....

if it wern`t for the LEDs on the Explorer or the UV Lighting above the wall fins I`d say it hadn`t been touched since 1975. Thankfully the lift showscene is still intended to receive a makeover.

Well maybe they are going to two or three shifts on this thing. That always seemed to me to be the best way to go on a project as major as SM. If they are running extra shifts I could see them easily finishing in November. I would imagine the gutting could take a week or less.

Also, I'm thinking that a track replacement might actually be easier than a retrofit. Who knows, the track may be largely complete and will be fitted together in large sections once on site.

2 phase makeovers stink....let it be down for the holiday time as a message that good things can still be done.

The fact that SSE still is 'unfinished' is a travesty.

I agree with Lee that this whole Space Mt thing is getting old. I'm just going to wait and see what happens and make my comments on the final project.

I've seen the concept art and if it's anything like them it should be pretty good. Just don't ask me to post a link because they are not online anywhere and don't ask where I saw them because I can't say. But I first saw them back in October last year and the concept art is still up in that area today (along with other new attractions planed for other Disney parks.). All I can say is that guests shouldn't be disapointed with the queue or preshow if they stick to the plans.

All the info I can give. Sorry. :zipit:

They are. Everyone can breathe easier concerning this rehab; and if it makes anybody feel better, the Internet uproar over a bare-bones rehab did make a very tiny difference. :p But based on upcoming plans, I think that the half-finished MO of the previous WDW years is finally going away.

So it's a "bare-bones rehab" with an addition that will make "a very tiny difference".

How is this a change in the "MO" of the past. You know I am usually Mr. Optimistic, but your post does not make me "feel better". Sorry:eek:

:D And my panic attack is over. :sohappy:

I think he was being sarcastic when he said "tiny." jt

I know some are trying to remain optimistic. But I just don't have big hopes for this. And it all goes back to that original Orlando Sentinel article announcing the rehab, and how Disney went out of it's way to downplay the upgrades while distancing itself from the superb California SM rehab.

Seven months. That's less than Haunted Mansion was down, correct? (if not, it's close).

But HM was an entirely different beast, where (in theory) multiple new elements could be installed simultaneously (one guy could be hanging new speakers in the graveyard at the same time another crew was installing the attic scene while at the same time carpenters were building the staircase just down the track from where new portraits were being hung. And none of that work stopped the guys from playing with the stretch rooms.)

We KNOW from the Sentinel they are replacing the dome ceiling. Even if they do not need to remove dangerous mold or asbestos, I imagine that no other track or queue work could be done simultaneously.

Unlike a new floor, that ceiling will require cranes and scaffolding. That will be time-consuming.

Once the ceiling guys move out, the track guys will move in and set up their own cranes and scaffolding. Although it's possible that any new on-ride visual effects could be installed simultaneously, those are two different construction disciplines presumably governed by different union rules. So I would imagine the track guys would have to me close to complete before any lighting, projection, or prop installation crews could begin.

With a mostly (or entirely) new track, the ops and safety teams are going to want to run it for at least a month before welcoming the public aboard. And if the trains are speeding along the new track, I doubt they'll be putting any set decorators or special effects crews in the dome.

That leaves the queue. Knowing that they will be enclosing the old overhead "windows", I assume those carpenters will have to be finished before any new queue configuration and lighting is put in. So even that project will have restrictions.

It just seems like there's not enough time to do the minimal improvements mentioned in the Sentinel.

Hoping for any unmentioned "secrets" seems like a setup for disappointment.

Except everyone of our insiders pretty much have guaranteed a new queue and some new effects. I'll believe them over the Sentinel.

Hmmm...can't say where you saw them, but they are obviously on display somewhere. Maybe Team Disney? Maybe in the office space at MK?
I've been trying to get my hands on that art for the longest time.

I've got an ID around here somewhere that might work...I may have to resort to trespass....:lookaroun
