Any chance Disney will release the concept art to the public?I've seen the concept art and if it's anything like them it should be pretty good. Just don't ask me to post a link because they are not online anywhere and don't ask where I saw them because I can't say. But I first saw them back in October last year and the concept art is still up in that area today (along with other new attractions planed for other Disney parks.). All I can say is that guests shouldn't be disapointed with the queue or preshow if they stick to the plans.
All the info I can give. Sorry. :zipit:
I know some are trying to remain optimistic. But I just don't have big hopes for this. And it all goes back to that original Orlando Sentinel article announcing the rehab, and how Disney went out of it's way to downplay the upgrades while distancing itself from the superb California SM rehab.
Seven months. That's less than Haunted Mansion was down, correct? (if not, it's close).
But HM was an entirely different beast, where (in theory) multiple new elements could be installed simultaneously (one guy could be hanging new speakers in the graveyard at the same time another crew was installing the attic scene while at the same time carpenters were building the staircase just down the track from where new portraits were being hung. And none of that work stopped the guys from playing with the stretch rooms.)
We KNOW from the Sentinel they are replacing the dome ceiling. Even if they do not need to remove dangerous mold or asbestos, I imagine that no other track or queue work could be done simultaneously.
Unlike a new floor, that ceiling will require cranes and scaffolding. That will be time-consuming.
Once the ceiling guys move out, the track guys will move in and set up their own cranes and scaffolding. Although it's possible that any new on-ride visual effects could be installed simultaneously, those are two different construction disciplines presumably governed by different union rules. So I would imagine the track guys would have to me close to complete before any lighting, projection, or prop installation crews could begin.
With a mostly (or entirely) new track, the ops and safety teams are going to want to run it for at least a month before welcoming the public aboard. And if the trains are speeding along the new track, I doubt they'll be putting any set decorators or special effects crews in the dome.
That leaves the queue. Knowing that they will be enclosing the old overhead "windows", I assume those carpenters will have to be finished before any new queue configuration and lighting is put in. So even that project will have restrictions.
It just seems like there's not enough time to do the minimal improvements mentioned in the Sentinel.
Hoping for any unmentioned "secrets" seems like a setup for disappointment.
Don`t believe the Sentinel. Who`s to say certain items arn`t already installed...
They are. Everyone can breathe easier concerning this rehab; and if it makes anybody feel better, the Internet uproar over a bare-bones rehab did make a very tiny difference. But based on upcoming plans, I think that the half-finished MO of the previous WDW years is finally going away.
Hmmm...can't say where you saw them, but they are obviously on display somewhere. Maybe Team Disney? Maybe in the office space at MK?
I've been trying to get my hands on that art for the longest time.
I've got an ID around here somewhere that might work...I may have to resort to trespass....:lookaroun
Any chance Disney will release the concept art to the public?
I can tell you that they are in an area not accessible to guests and almost all CMs or even CM traffic for that matter. Plus there are signs posted on the doors warning that the area is under strict video surveilance.
No clue on that one.

Sounds like SSE now, right?:lol:WHAT?!?!
Did we all just miss this?
Can you at least describe what some of the art looked like? Even hints?

Sure. They were drawings that were colored with water colors. :animwink:

Any word if they layout will change?
I hope that concept art shows the windows that look out into space are still there in the queue :lookaroun
also, why haven't they ever done anything with DL's SM asteroid? Isn't it supposed to spin around and around on a pole and with certain lighting, make it as though its going to collide with you......only flash pictures or videos of evacs with the lights on ever show the asteroid prop.
