Waitaminute. Lee, if they had put all this work into SSE until NOW, what are they going to do with it? Just let it sit there? What about the apparent technology upgrades that's visible in the new face animation? What about the triangles?

Goodness, I sound desperate.:brick::ROFLOL:

Spent the last five days at the resort. Talked to many interesting people.
The attention at Epcot is going into FW.
From what I have learned Mr. Cockrell is looking to make things happen...or so it seems. It's all a matter of priority. At this point, what little remains to do at SSE is not high on the priority list.

I hope "decluttering" is high on his list.

They are going into SM with the plan to do a lot of the structural work now, work that will enable them to make further additions later. I'm not currently able to be specific, but if you think hard enough...you can probably see where I'm going with this.

Well if that doesn't sound like they are building a structure that can handle heavier loads for audio-equipped cars, I guess I need to go back to reading between the lines class.

Not exactly.
Much has been done, and more will eventually happen. If they moved the curtains...you would see some stuff.
However, Disney has turned it's attention elsewhere in FW, and will return to SSE when (if) Siemens forces the issue and coughs up the money. The additional work in SSE was never seen as a big deal to the company, but they continued to finance the work up until fairly recently.
Now they see their time and money better spent in other pavillions which will currently remain nameless.

Different situation. With SSE they did all they could in the time allotted, then were forced to try to finish up later. It was never planned to take this long.

Well, that's slightly good news. At least FW is getting some love. Is it aesthetic, or are they actually doing something?:lookaroun

And I gotcha on the SM deal. Should be interesting, but really, they gotta do this in one big shot. This SSE Schedule of things is pretty darn foolish. It;s like giving a half completed product to your customers.

As for SSE...How much more work do you think it needs? Is it almost done?

There is currently no work going on SSE's descent...at all.
There was. For a long time.
Now attention has turned elsewhere, and will turn back to SSE eventually.
That breath you have been holding...let it out.

Great, now we have to listen to merf gloat over at LP.

Doing a couple of somethings. If you ask me...it's a fair trade off.

Yeah, I would think it could be done fairly quickly if they had the time to just go in and get it done. It's kinda been a pet project kinda thing, just getting tinkered with over the months. What they have moved on to is much bigger.

I could only imagine what it might be.

Sacrifice SSE and a fantastic finale for a clearer EPCOT? It has a more widespread effect, but I dunno.:(
Do not overestimate the stuff in the descent. Good stuff, I guess...but not close to the scale of the other stuff in the works.

Less clutter....probably. But that's only a small piece of it.

I hope you are right. But of course, if you were to provide some informaiton, I could judge that.:D

Well, hopefully it will be done quickly.

I'm imagining. That works.
His gloating would be misplaced. If I recall correctly, he said nothing had been done.
Much work was done on SSE that has not yet been shown to guests.
One day it will be. Not now.
Good. Better be sooner than later.

Alright...I might be able to live with this. I would have wanted the descent first, but we shall see. I wish TDO would just do something right for a change.

Okay, this thread has officially been hijacked into another Epcot thread.

Thanks for the clarification on SM, Lee. I remember reading elsewhere... actually enough said there. Now I know what happend. :)

So, back to Epcot. Well, interesting to hear some stuff is (hopefully) about to be done to FW. Now Lee, when you're talking about this, whose money are we dealing with here, because if Siemens is stopping work on the descent, does that mean they're the ones directing whats happening to FW? You said that people are seeing money as better spent for the moment in other pavilions (that you are keeping nameless). So whats happening here? Is this Siemens we're talking about or Disney? And even if it was Disney, why would that effect whats going on in SSE? Is Siemens just losing a bit of will to finish what they started, or are the plans for FW/unknown pavilions extensive enough that they need "all hand on deck" so to speak?

Sorry for all the questions but its an interesting discussion. With all the things that could be done in FW, its great to hear that Mr. Cockrell wants to try to get some things done and that he's working toward that.

Hoping it's the former, rather than the latter.

And if this is true about Mr. Cockrell, it's the only thing that is keeping me optimistic for WDW and EPCOT.

The loss of a finished SSE (soon) is quite saddening though... The Icon of the park needs to be done. It needs to send the message of the park. Right now, it's not doing that. It has a fantastic, stellar, opening, and then quickly looses it.

That breath you have been holding...let it out.

People have been saying it for a long time now and I tend to agree. They are not doing anything about SSE until the next major refurb of the ride (however far away that may be). Yes they screwed up SSE like everyone knew they would (at least they got rid of the wand and the first portion is pretty good minus the narration).

There are far bigger issues with the WDW resort than SSE that will occupy Disney for a long time to come.

and no offense to Lee but I will believe "TEH CHANGES ARE COMING" when I see construction with my own eyes or hear something substantial from a Disney official.

Have you ridden SSE multible times since the refurb? Everytime I've ridden it, I've noticed changes to the descent. Things were most certainly added, curtains moved, etc. It's all there, I don't doubt it...at all.

Adding yet another layer of sadness for SSE and doubt for TDO.:(

Frankly, I'm surprised with Siemens, too. I thought that they were actually pushing for this...
