Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

Even if it wasn't THAT long...:dazzle:

Just do some major work, open it, and be done. None of this that keeps us wondering if it's done ala SSE.

Here's a question for you: How much additional time would SSE had to have remained closed to complete the descent work that has now taken over a year on 3rd shift?

Well, letsee...It was supposed to reopen in March, right?

It think a additional three months shoulda done it. It's supposedly in T/A now. And it's taking WAY too long.

I would guess an additional month myself. Do they have the same size crew, same access they would during 3rd shift as if the attraction was closed?

I wish I could tell you what they were thinking. It is definitely short sighted IMHO. I do see their point...having SM down for 2 years would be a hard pill to swallow, but the end result would be well worth it. What I think we will end up with is a refurb that is only a faction of what it could have been and to add insult to injury it will end up costing more in the long run.

But why? After all, we have that great new Stitch show right next to SM. That'll eat up the crowds! :zipit:

Ok, back on point, yes, I agree SM being down for up to 24 months would be difficult, but if they had planned it out from the beginning like they should have, I don't think it would've taken 24 months (probably no more than 18-20). After all, DL only took that long because there were no plans to put a completely new track in. As a result, all surveying and plannning took place with the attraction closed, and that made for alot of extra downtime. Considering what had happend, a little over 2 years for that rebuild was actually pretty good time!

Incorrect.
DL was always scheduled to get a full track and support replacement.
The only surprise in that refurb was that due to unforseen circumstances, the ride had to close 4-5 months early. The track was ordered but not on site, none of the contractors were scheduled to begin, so the ride just sat there empty until the contractors and track were ready. That, plus the challenges of assembling the track in the building, made an 18 month closure last a little longer.

Yeah...kinda.

No.
There is currently no work going on SSE's descent...at all.
There was. For a long time.
Now attention has turned elsewhere, and will turn back to SSE eventually.
That breath you have been holding...let it out.

Damnit.
:(
When did you find out? Where is the attention going? This is horribly disappointing.

I called it... I said money was going to win out in the end... Neither Disney nor Siemens wanted to spend the money on what was turning out to be a failed descent plan... Now, back to the drawing board... Be prepared for nothing more being added to the descent AT ALL... what you see is now what you get... Nothing more coming... :)

And if this is what Space Mountain is going to be like, I say don't even bother...

The corporate offices... Phil Holmes and the rest of the ilk there in TDO need nicer offices.... You know, so that can keep getting their inspirations for creating such magical moments in attractions... Maybe, just maybe, they can make the newspaper boy dance.. with stitch!!!! That's imagination at its finest!!!!

Agreed. This is a huge let down. Any confidence I had for TDO and this *slight* change in approach is about gone if what Lee posted is true.

Could the budget have been diverted to a proper TTA refurb and the external lighting package for SM?

Not exactly.
Much has been done, and more will eventually happen. If they moved the curtains...you would see some stuff.
However, Disney has turned it's attention elsewhere in FW, and will return to SSE when (if) Siemens forces the issue and coughs up the money. The additional work in SSE was never seen as a big deal to the company, but they continued to finance the work up until fairly recently.
Now they see their time and money better spent in other pavillions which will currently remain nameless.

Different situation. With SSE they did all they could in the time allotted, then were forced to try to finish up later. It was never planned to take this long.
They are going into SM with the plan to do a lot of the structural work now, work that will enable them to make further additions later. I'm not currently able to be specific, but if you think hard enough...you can probably see where I'm going with this.

Spent the last five days at the resort. Talked to many interesting people.
The attention at Epcot is going into FW.
From what I have learned Mr. Cockrell is looking to make things happen...or so it seems. It's all a matter of priority. At this point, what little remains to do at SSE is not high on the priority list.
