Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

I hope all of you saying that stuff enjoy your shanty town WDW in just a few short years! Especially when space mountain has to close down permanently due to struture collapse.

This entire idea that SM is on the verge of collapse is absolutely ridiculous. Many people may not like how the supports "look", or how they compare to the ones at Disneyland SM. However, the fact is that the supports at WDW are not simple "angle iron" or "scaffold" as some people like to suggest and are actually more than able to carry the loads placed on them. Go ahead and complain about a possible refurb not being as good as we hoped it would be, however the massive over-dramatization about the ride supports imminent failure has officially reached epic proportions.

Sorry for injecting some reality into the support issue.

oh no.. I agree... anyone that thinks SM was on the verge of collapse is fooling themselves...

I'm sure the structure was/is MORE than adequate to bear the load... additionally, I doubt the whole 'new supports HAVE to be added for on-ride audio'...... Maybe reinforcing, but new? come on guys...really...

I think the problem is simple envy that DL got a rip-out and rebuild... WDW doesn't NEED it... it needs a neew overlay, and facade... and technical improvements, thats it.

Thats it.

Cmon guys. Are you gonna be arguing about DL & WDW's SM all the way til Nov.? And Lee, cmon. Almost all of us know the difference between ours and DL's SM's inside by now. Give it a rest. I know that you're upset about this whole thing cause you have an incredible love for Disney and I understand that, I do too. But what is the point of endlessly arguing about stuff that's beyond our control? This thread has got to be one of the most negative in the forums by now.

Space Mountain is DEATH and disease, wrapped in SILENCE and darkness...
C'mon guys. Seriously?

Even though I'm upset about the refurb not being all that it was supposed to be, I'm past the point of letting it get to me and I'm sure that come Nov I'm gonna be riding the heck out of it like I used to.

ANYWAYS, if anyone is interested in some pics taken today (May 22), here they are. Click to enlarge.

Yes, I know the pics aren't that great. I'll get better at that.

It's called "self importance".... if SM comes out of refurb looking totally 'un different', they'll say "See, I told you so.. what did you expect?".... why the hell do we have to be so negative?

I, for one, think the refurb is going to be great.. Can't wait for August 24th to possibly get a preview from TTA (which is getting some much needed love as well) and November when SM comes back on line to knock our socks off..

I'm not one to blow rainbows and sunshine, but after the smallworld refurb and the HM refurb, I'm willing to give WDI a chance here guys..

none of us know the plan, none of us have seen it...... so, no one has any reason to think the refurb won't be top-notch... Just because you WANT SM to get a complete re-track, doesn't mean it NEEDS it for WDI to bring the ride into the modern age.

Very well said. I don't think we can call a refurb lasting seven months as of now bare bones anymore. I think that is a bit of bash one what is really a lot of work. Sure, it may not actually have as much exstensive work as the HM's timeline, but there is really not as much to change. Essentially no matter what it is a coaster in the dark, an enclosed coaster. The best thing that can happen is the update on how much fun that can be with effects. Mostly projection upgrades and keeping it dark is what I am hoping for as well as a clean queue with enchancements on what makes WDW's music and por windows so loveable by many people.

I think this refurb is going to make a lot of people happy by being an automatic upgrade to the Space Mt experience as well as hopefully the TTA/Always People Mover to me. At least, I hope it does.

I have been a negative Nancy on the WDW resort for a while because of all the DVC stuff going on and movie tie ins left and right, but let me tell you. They still have a lot of issues in my opinion, but this is the happiest I have been in a long time with WDW. If the Space mt changes come out postive, the facade face lifts and Hall of Presidents reopens to an entertaining and fresh change and if much overdue and much needed upkeep seems to be no longer neglected....I am a happy WDW fan.

I know there is a ton of run on with that sentance, but I am tired and hopeful.

ok..bed time:snore:

They were different beasts due to internal politics - as was the watered down refurb PotC WDW got. SMs refurb - in the making now for 4 years and counting - is a victim of said politics. WDI just do what they are told to.

I love the foamers who are saying "who cares about the track" and that the "refurb is good enough" and that "we all should stop complaining disney is doing us a favor".

Wow.

You seriously need some positivity.

Well said and great pictures.:D They don's show much, but it's pretty damn cool to see where the magic is taking place.

That post doesn't speak well for the movement, of course it isn't going to "Collapse". Unsafe trackwise? Yes. Not in danger of collapsing. Honestly it's MUCH more a problem with the trains themselves and to fix that, it all winds down to the track needing more support, hence why the structure is a major issue to me.

C'mon guys. Seriously?

Course I'm serious! Darned ride took the whole park with it. All I have left now are my BONES!

But, to look on the bright side, no matter what happens it will still be the same great ride with at least some small details added. I have to admit I like our Space Mountain much better than DL's or even Paris's.

best isn't track supports that look like they are going to colapse any minute
best isn't a dark setting that makes you feel like you are actually in space
:zipit::zipit: it isnt the 70's when it opened anymore, it's friggin 2009!
