1) For all those "I hope Disney does this...I hope Disney does that" folks out there...guess what...you are whining...ALOT! I just rode Space in October and completely enjoyed myself.

2) Im sorry...I just don't care how it looks with the lights on. Why? ITS INTENDED TO BE RIDDEN WITH THE LIGHTS OFF. No I dont care about a few stray items or mold. I am a man...not a delicate little sissy. EEEwwww mold...I might cough. Or eeeewwww rust...I might chip my freshly painted nails. CMON.

3) In my opinion it was built pretty darn well. It has held up for over 30 years.

4) "Im going to go in and push it down...then Disney will have to build a new one" Congratulations you sound like a jerk.

you would be complaining if you had an evacuation! I promise you

Mold is nasty. It can seriously make some people sick.

I'm standing by a TTA track right now and it's sooo depressing.

I'm about to go see if the mad hatter is in fantasy land right now!

Peace!

 You forgot to

 Can't blame you though. 25 minutes of Stitch would get someone to willingly run in front of the moving Railroad train.

thats great... so if the employees there develop chronic illness will you be man enough to pay their bills?

im sure thats nothing to a MAN like you though.

First off...no one is comlpaining that they are removing asbestos tiles...I certainly wasn't...its a necessary maintanence...we all know that. Again, my point was that it is ridiculous for people to complain about it not being shiny. As if the whole refurb would be a waste if they were unable to have a kidney removed while on the ride...or that it would be a failure if it didn't do thier taxes for them. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

Also on the MAN thing...please refer to my other posts.

1. You are whining about the whiners. Regardless, people who are fans of Disney seem to want to hold Disney to a higher standard. A standard that Disney holds themselves to. Lately, the standard has been to produce crap because people will still come. Now, it seems that Six Flags has caught on to what gets people's attention and will soon pass Disney in imagination.

2. Yes, Space Mountain is meant to be in the dark, so I cannot disagree here. I really don't care about chipped paint on the beams when they aren't meant to be seen anyway.

3. The ride is 30 years old. After the pounding it has taken for 30 years, you be the judge as to how sound the structure still is. I am sure this is A concern and will be addressed, but won't be with a new support structure.

4. Congratulations, you called someone on the internet a jerk. You showed your true intellect. Way to go.

I think he called me that.

Also, I've ridden alot of coasters...compared to alot of 'em Space Mountain is like ridding down a silk hill on a stick of butter. So again if Space Mountain is too rough for you maybe the problem isn't the ride...maybe its...you.

I feel like I need to visit a chiropractor after riding Space. The only thing that makes SM feel smooth by comparison is some form of violent high-speed car crash. :lookaroun

Comparing the need for futurism with kidney removal is frankly stupid. The future is supposed to be... y'know, futuristic. Unless SM takes place in some form of post-apocalyptic dystopian future, it's unacceptable for it to be without doubt the most dated attraction in WDW.

Is there a documented mold problem? I am seriously asking. I dont remember seeing an actual mold issue. And frankly it would be interesting if mold grew in such a large airy building. Aside from that however, mold is pretty much everywhere, and very few types of mold actually sicken people (see: cheese). Sure some folks may think it is gross but most mold is completely harmless. But again if there is a mold problem, then they should do something about that...of course. That has never been an issue for me (just a bit of ammo).

Again, my issue is with the ridiculous assertion that if they don't make it like DL's or HKDL's or DLP's, or totally gut the thing, than the refurb would be an absoulute failure. This is crazy...absolutely crazy.

Also, I like the  idea, although I may disagree with some folks on here...I do hope they make the refurb quick and safe for all the folks who make it happen.

Again how it looks with the lights off...I have no issue with. I would love a very futuristic ride with cool effects. For the umpteenth time...AHEM...my issue is with the folks who seem to think that the ride will be better if the structure is shiny and clean and looks really great with the LIGHTS ON.

Also...dystopian...good word.

Disneyland's SM was brought fully into the 21st Century, with a smooth track, complete pitch darkness and realistic stars. WDW's SM is stuck in the 1970s, a remnant of old Tomorrowland theming surrounded by the new cartoony sci-fi TL.

It took DL over two years to do the new SM justice. The sort-of darkness doesn't hide the bumpy and noisy track and blinking Christmas tree lights -- these are just as apparent with lights on or off and significantly date the attraction.

UPDATE:
Remember my griping a few pages back at how Magic Mountain's Terminator woodie has onboard sound?
Guess what else it has........Mist.
Yep. Mist in the tunnels. Mist that works.
:brick:

*sigh*
It's got fire, too. And Terminators. Our new Space Mountain better have something as cool as Terminators lest it suffer from suck.
Sheesh. That sounds magnificent. Did we loose any WDI Peeps to them? Ya know...Just wondering?:lookaroun
you are supposed to be flying through space.it's too bumpy!

And you know that how?;):lookaroun

I don't think you understand this. RNR with the lights on looks "bad". But that's not the "bad" we are taking about. If you've seen Backstage at Disney Parks you know how backstage constitutes as "bad". And If you yourself have seen Space Mountain with the lights on this past year, and have any idea at the things management "Let's go" every day in order to keep the ride running (Yes Disney Rides have many Safety Measures. Are they being manually circumvented to keep the Status Quo on the day you're riding? Just think about that.), then you know that Space Mountain didn't look bad...it looked "Worse". I don't care if it looks like crud. If it looks and feels that the chassy of the flimsy, dirty rocket I'm riding in is going to pop off because some manager was dealing with a Fastpass line out the door and needed as many trains out as possible, then you'd understand where we few are coming from.

Agreed, how it looks with the lights on is of little importance. Almost no ride looks good without show lighting.

Speaking for me personally, the lights-on photos are simply used to demonstrate the difference between a thirty-plus year old coaster with outdated supports, ride system, and efects and a coaster that has been brought up to date in all those areas.
It isn't about cosmetics...it's about quality. And at this point, MK's Space Mountain is far behind the others in quality.

Exactly.

What I'm trying to say is that you should try to seem so relaxed when you pull up to unload with your EYES BLEEDING from the sockets...

Space Mountain is DEATH and disease, wrapped in SILENCE and darkness...

I love the foamers who are saying "who cares about the track" and that the "refurb is good enough" and that "we all should stop complaining disney is doing us a favor".

I hope all of you saying that stuff enjoy your shanty town WDW in just a few short years! Especially when space mountain has to close down permanently due to struture collapse.

You have serious issues then I`m afraid. The refurb should have made it BETTER than DLs. It would have been. And now it won`t be.

Agree completely. It should have been better than DLs. The DL SM is smaller, has a less interesting track design (you basically go in circles at DL) has only one track rather than two and has a less interesting seating arrangement. All that said, DL SM is much more fun to ride than WDWs currently. If all the naysayers on here are right (and I seriously doubt any of them WANT to be right) that won't change with this refurb.

Seriously, there is absolutely no reason that a ride that goes 23 mph should be so rough. The only rougher rides I've been on are Ninja at Six Flags over Georgia (hello broken neck!...they should play Prong's "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" on that one!) and the now defunct Psyclone at Six Flags Magic Mountain. At least that one had the excuse of being damaged by an earthquake! And guess what is replacing Psyclone? That's, right, Terminator: Salvation The Ride. Now, aside from my qualms about what the heck a wooden rollercoaster has to do with Terminator, that looks like a vast improvement. Something which should have been done for arguably the most popular ride at inarguably the most visited theme park on Earth. I think all most reasonable people wanted was the exact same layout with updated effects, new track, new supports and new cars. That shouldn't be too much to ask for a 30+ year old ride!

Oh, forgot Flashback at SFMM. That one was a pain inducer too. Thank God its gone!

Actually, I have some photos of the mold in Space Mountain.
