I got over being embarrased a long time ago. I'm almost 30 years old with a wife and a brand new child. I teach at a local University and the other night when my students came in I had the Wishes cd blaring loudly. They all think I'm crazy, but I don't care.

I often proudly wear my hidden mickey tie to class quite often.

thats why i love these boards lol. I can't explain to any one why i love it so much... but you all know exactly how i feel haha. In the end i'm actually REALLY glad i said something because my professor's daughter was a CM for quite some time and he said she'll give me some insight on it.

edit:
joanna71985 : awsome! gotta love NJ, (not as much as WDW tho lol) I dont go to any special college though.. lol i go to Middlesex CC

See, it does pay to stay true to yourself!

The northeast and NJ are particularly tough with young folks trying so hard to be cool...and thinking there is only one way to do it. Thats one of the reasons I insisted that my kids go far away from NJ for college...you need to experience something different!

I mostly get the 'ugh' reaction from my parents. Everytime my mother sees me on this site she exclaims "When are you going to stop playing with Mickey Mouse." I get very angry, not so much embarrassed, at times because of this.
One time, my mom told a relative that she was embarrassed to say what websites her son had been visiting. Of course, she was talking about WDWMagic and other Disney related sites.

Be proud and never be embarrased by how much you love disney...I still have to work on that.

I am an officer in the army and I never really told people how much I loved disney, my little secret. Then one day I found out that another officer in my unit love disney and proudly let EVERYBODY know it. I was embarrased at my fear because here he was proudly displaying disney office stuff and pictures and even brought me back a mug from a disney cruise. I now had someone that could relate to my love for disney stuff and I could talk about it. He even let me know about Miceage.com and WDWmagic.com. Sadly, he was killed in an accident a year ago and I lost good friend.

So never be embarrased, because that one person who you tell might secretly want to work at disney as bad as you, and unless you are brave enough to tell them you will never know...:o :)

oh man. i am soooo embarressed right now! I'm in my one of my classes as we speak.. and they are asking about what we want to do with our lives. and since i am really outgoing, i raised my hand and just said "I want to work for disney" and the whole classes started laughing! These people just don't get it.. and whats worse is i hate being embarressed about how much i like disney..

this ever happen to anyone before?(not the same situation but something similar..)

Wow. You are actually in a class full of morons. Full-fledged morons. Disney is only one of the most diverse and powerful companies in the world. Who in their right mind wouldn't want to work for that type of company in some capacity?

Never be embarrassed about how much you like ANYTHING. Most people are mindless sheep, just going along with the mob. Express yourself and be proud. They have the problem, not you. I wish I had decided that I wanted to work for Disney years ago. Good for you!

I'm curious as to what other students said they wanted to do. Regardless, I think the people who know exactly what they want to do in life are the happiest. If you do what you love, then it's never work. :)

That's ok. I only go to Montclair (nothing too special). Although I did find out about the CP from Montclair (and have done it, as of now, 3 times).

Why were you made fun of wanting to work at Disney (or Disney World I'm guessing?)?

There's nothing funny about that?

And it says you live in New Jersey? People in the North East love Disney World so I'm surprised they would want to make fun of someone who would want to work there.

I mean, unless you wear Disney World clothes to school everyday or something...

i definetly ALMOST went to montclair! But then last minute decided if i were to commute it would be easier(and cheaper) to do the county college thing.

and for every one else- thanks for making my feel better and realized how silly it is to be embarressed by loving disney. Im not even botherd by it any more, i think it was just an omg. i was just so used to everyone knowing and loving my disney obsession and it was the first time i was really ridiculed for loving it. but i wont let it phase me. i doubt any of them will remember what even went on today in class because it was soo boring.

and on a side note, i read someone else wanted to know what the other kids wanted to be. I heard firefighters, poice officers, and teaching.

but seriously thank you all!

Don't you dare let them change who you are! I am having the same feelings right now at NYU where everyone wants to work for the Four Seasons or Hilton. Some people will just never understand the importance that this place holds for us. A place free from judgements, worries, and fear of what tomorrow brings. We escape to Disney to remind us about the good that is inside each and every human being. We use it to escape the thoughts of war, terrorism, and economic turmoil. While others simply scoff at us we can just laugh back and say "Too bad you will never know what it is to truly love what you do!" If there is anything I learned from working at WDW this summer it is this: if you let yourself give into peer pressure and stop doing what you love, you might as well work at six flags. You do this so that you can see someone's eyes light up when they see a character, or you see someone that was moved to tears by the majestic beauty of Soarin' and if they can't understand that, it is their loss. Don't compromise for them, demand respect for your love and passion.

Over in Britain, Disney fever isn't as common and I get laughed at quite alot when i say love Disney. I get told I'm like a child becuase I believe in wishes and following your dreams. Some people think it's sweet, others think it immature and i need to grow up. I'm 23 and married with no children but i have a Disney room with my dwarves and my Mickeys in it and I'm very proud of the fact that i know the words to about 90% of Disney songs!

Never be embarressed of being a Disney fan! Be proud! :D

As a mom I'm shocked that a parent wouldn't support their child's interest (even if they think it's childlish). I think it's wrong for your mother to be embarrassed and to tell you to stop "playing with Mickey Mouse"! But she is your mother and parents deserve respect even when they're not giving that same respect to their children. Show your mom how mature you are - when she makes comments or criticises your interest in Disney tell her why you love Disney and why it's important that you stay connected to all things Disney. If you explain yourself in a calm mature manner your mom may come around and even understand why Disney is just so darn cool!!!:D

My coworkers are constantly picking about how obsessed I am about Disney. I don't let it bother me one bit. How can I get depressed or embarrassed when I am such a fan of the Happiest Place on Earth!!! :sohappy:

My mother thinks I'm nuts about wanting to work at Disney for she thinks it will not pay the bills
She's right. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney. Really. But I wouldn't want to work there. It's pretty much every bad job you have ever had combined. On your feet 8+ hours a day? Check. In the heat? Check. Low money? Check. Dealing with the public? Check. These are all perfectly fine when you are 18 and have no responsibilities and no better options. But at some point that becomes not enough for you anymore (hopefully). I mean, seriously, do you ever want to buy a house? A new car? Have a family? You can't do these things on a Disney CM salary.

People have a tendency to want to make their fantasy a reality and it's not always a good thing. When I want to escape from real life, I go on vacation. It's great. When I want reality, I go back to work. I fight traffic. I stand in non-themed, non-entertaining lines at the grocery store. I pay bills. What do you do when Disney becomes that to you? Where do you go then?

Tis a reality check.
