Ok so I was at work the other day (i work in a salon) and a client came in and was telling one of the hairdresser's about her daughter's and son-inlaws terrible trip to disney...so you know as soon as i heard "terrible " and "disney" I was like radar..well she proceeds to say that one day her son was at one of the "disney" parks and went to pet one of the clyde's dale horse's and got bite...as a result he had to go to the hospital wait...(as you normally do with any ER) and then was told that he broke 3 fingers...well I guess he was very angry because now his trip was "Ruined" ...well the whole thing is now he was predurbed because all disney did for him was give him a free 3 day pass....Now the client is going on and on ..."oh disney should have gave him a free trip" " that just should'nt have happened"... Now to me was he even supposed to be touching the horse in the first place?? and also where at any of the parks are there clyde's dale horse's?? I know they have the horse and cart sort of thing that goes up and down mainstreet but aren'nt they just regular old horses...also don't they have horses at bushgarden?? I know those non-disney people think that enerything in orlando is a disney park...so for them they can get easily confused...wondering if anyone heard anything...thanks for any imput..

I think you may be on to something w/ the Busch Gardens thing. I don't think disney has any clyde's dale horse's. If they do, I think the only place you could see them and possibly get close enough to get bit is at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. They have stables there and you are permitted to go inside and see the horses. I guess if you don't read any of the warning signs not to touch the horses and don't value your fingers... ya you could probably get bit.

I have been to the Clydesdale exhibit at both Sea World and at Bush Gardens. Both are plastered with signs stating not to touch the horses, not to stick your hands into the cages etc. Quite honestly he is lucky that three broken fingers was all he got. A full grown Clydesdale weighs in the neighborhood of 2000 to 2300 lbs. All the horse has to do is move to the left or right a little while your arm is sticking through the bars and SNAP compound fracture.

While Disney uses draft horses for various functions, most commonly pulling the trolly, they only have Percherons and Belgians, not Clydesdales. That may be so as not to conflict with AB uses, or just coincidence. Many people however would probably call all draft horses Clydesdales.

I always admire those horses and often photograph them. As with any animal, before approaching, you need to check with the handler and use caution in approach the animal. Just to walk up to a very large animal and put your hand on it's face is asking for trouble...but then again, many don't waste their time with common sense.

Um, why would you put your fingers near the mouth of something bigger then you are???!!!! Especially a Clydesdale.
Secondly, if you are stupid enough to do so (regardless if there are signs or not) why is Disney or anyone else responsible for that?
I am assuming the people who work at Disney or Busch Gardens did not MAKE him stick his hand in the mouth of a 2300 pound creature.....

my sentiments exactly!! I wanted to go talk to the client , but she is the type that is always right....so I would be talking to a wall basically!!

It is amazing though that the more warning signs are around , the more people feel the need to disregard them....stupid people!!!!

Ok, not that it matters WHERE it was...the fact is...this kid had 3 fingers broken while at a theme park. Yes, there may have been signs that say, "Don't stick your hand in the cage." But...at the same time...shouldn't the theme park have taken better precautionary measures? If there is a risk that somebody could get hurt by sticking their hand in a cage...maybe it shouldn't be a CAGE that you can stick your hand in.

Over here we have the lion exhibit...don't stick your fingers in the cage because there is a chance that he could rip it off. Don't put them in a cage...put them in a place that they can't get at the public (Like DAK does with their tigers).

Sure, the child shouldn't have stuck his fingers in the cage if there were signs posted...and the parents should have been watching to make sure he didn't stick his fingers in the cage...but...at the same time...think about your experiences with horses in "parks"...what's the first thing you do? You walk up and pat them.

Horses can be mean! When my daughter was 3, my parents took her to the Mid-south fair in Memphis. They had one of those little petting zoo areas. And in there was a couple of those minature horses (the ones that are about as big as a medium to large size dog). One of those bit her arm, and almost bit right through the bone! My parents spent the rest of the evening in the ER with her. Luckily no break and she did not have to have rabies shots or anything, but it looked NASTY for a couple of weeks.

I never again let her, nor my later two children, ever go NEAR a petting zoo or a horse after that!

Maybe he was not familar with horse types and it was a disney horse. not every person is a horse expert but most know the diffence between samu and mickey.

Most of the time, I agree with you... but in this instance, I don't.

There are too many people looking for someone to blame for their stupidity or sue because they are careless. If I allowed it my students would blame spelling errors on their pencils! A grown man that sticks his hand anywhere near a horse's mouth is acting like the other end of said horse!!
