Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

For some reason, I'm expecting the DLSP Ratatouille ride to come to the French pavillion once Frozen Ever After and Soarin' come back. Frozen will make Disney realize they need another attraction in World Showcase to take off some strain, and Soarin' will make Disney realize they need another e-ticket at Epcot so their park isn't so strained when one goes down for refurbishment. And Remy could just (relatively) easily be brought here as they wouldn't need to have any new footage animated and 50%-ish of the ride is screen-based.

As much as people hate the thought of IPs being infected into WS, I would love to have that ride in France. Epcot seems to be moving in a different direction that it was going in the past, it is unfortunate but I think we just have to embrace it's goals today. If they had even kept inventions relevant or even open for that matter, they could close down/refurb/replace whatever attraction they wanted. Back in the day, Inventions was at least a 1/4 to 1/3 of the day thing for me. Maybe it's because I was young at the time and could spend hours roaming around there but it was an important part of Epcot for me.

I'm not upset that Soarin's going down for so long because it needs it. Let them do what they need to and make it a better experience. It's just sad that the little things that kept Epcot interesting are no longer which makes us rely on these E ticket attractions.

edit: I originally meant to say injected but funny enough infected works to the same effect :p

Well, there is the 350 million that is supposedly marked for EPCOT.

Allegedly.

It's all gone very hush hush since D23. Not to say the budget isn't there and things are being worked on but at this moment in time I'm expecting this to get brushed under the carpet and nothing to come of it. Hopefully I'm wrong. Epcot and parts of MK are kind of desperate.

Not to be rude, but we do not have to embrace Epcot's new goals. We may have to live with the ridiculous decision the suits made to go this route, but embrace it, no. I find it insulting to adults and children alike that the Company assumes kids need animated character based attractions to make a theme park enjoyable. Dumbing it down or speaking down to them, it's an insult either way.

You know what's funny?

so what's the plan then?

I normally support refurbishment schedules, but this one just doesn't make sense. I really think they want Epcot to fail. We've already heard rumblings that they want to let the beachboy go and perhaps bringing Epcot down is a means of removing the old basis for the park.

2016 is going to be an operational $#!^ storm for that park. A series of bad decisions or no decisions led them to this point.

I don't six months worth of work here. The reports are:
  • New restrooms
  • New queue
  • Connect the third theater
  • Upgrade to digital projectors
  • Potentially add Soarin' Around the World
This is an area that can be completely walled off, I really don't see 2 months of work, let alone 6. How is it that Pirates needed a 6-9 month refurb and it got 4 in a park that can absorb that loss. This brings us back to the Yeti fix as well, the discussion there has always been that DAK can't afford to have the attraction closed for an extended period of time. I'd argue that DAK is better suited for that than Epcot.

Speaking of stinks, How about them Reds. Not much SOARIN going on there (to keep the thread intent) but they do resemble and EXPANSION team. . .
HAHA don't get me started...
We used to say "there's always next year" but not so much anymore, I really need to change my Avatar to a Bengals one!

As long as the Good Andy sticks around. As for the Reds, I have to hope that the fact the rookies pitched nearly the entire year, that will pay off in a few years. Hope. And now, before @PhotoDave219 hits us over the head with the 'Stay on Topic' hammer -

Soarin! Expansion!

sorry, but I don't get the hate for adding an IP attraction to some WS pavilions? Its not like they are bulldozing France and erecting an attraction on its footprint? If they added it, it would be off to the side of in the back of the existing area, hopefully hide the queue. There is a generous amount of hidden (behind trees) space between France and Morocco that could be used.

Why do you feel that adding animated anything is 'talking down to kids?" Didn't it all start with a mouse in the first place? There is no reason why I should feel ashamed about taking my kids on a attraction for some fun, and then walking them around the pavilion to experience some history and foreign culture. I mean we ARE in Disney, right? If I want to immerse kids that badly into French culture, then take them to to the real France!

From a business standpoint, anything that generates more foot traffic is a good thing. And I'd rather an IP attraction vs another gift shop where I wouldn't be buying anything anyway.

People complain about Soaring going down and how it hopefully highlights the parks problems—specifically the need for more attractions—but then we will complain if anyone thinks about adding something to WS?? Honestly, I would love for better FW attractions... I'd love for the WoL to be great again, but if we have learned anything from MK's Tomorrowland, is that attractions based on 'future technology' soon grow outdated. Why would anyone fight against an attraction that has general staying power, in an area that thematically fitting, just because its "got cartoons" and in "world showcase"?

I'm all for fun, too! And I DO enjoy the characters- but the original EPCOT Center theme park created a real sense of adventure and exploration (and fun!) without shoving characters down our throats. The new direction may be a new vision for a park that lost its way from the original grand one of educating and creating a desire for exploring real countries. It just seems like the WS pavilions are becoming a backdrop for the animated character based attractions. Its nothing personal- and certainly not directed toward you or anyone else by the way- just my opinion.

no worries...I don't take it personal, and you're not the first person I've heard with that opinion....Its all good. Plus my comments were intended to be more general toward the anti-IP @ WS thoughts.
I can respect the attempt to try and keep WS to its original intent, but I think its losing its appeal for the general tourist. Right or wrong, WDW needs to be concerned about that.

IMO people are tiered of the movies, esp b/c they haven't been updated in so long that for even the casual tourist, they have seen them.

WDW to me has always been about proper theming and escape. I appreciate and respect how the imagineers can place attractions pretty much seamlessly in their settings. So to that, films like Ratatouille that are set in an actual real live location, can be converted into attractions seamlessly.

I think the Maelstrom conversion is a separate issue b/c they removed something to inject the IP, but if something like this is and addition to the park, I can't see it as a bad thing. Esp in a thread where people are concerned about Soaring going down for a few months making Epcot a "dead park" to them.

to me, Epcot was never and will ever be what it's original intention was. Not that i think even that was a great plan by Walt for a theme park setting. But you have to think that sponsorship budgets are getting harder to come by, and if its a matter of adding an IP "in addition to" the pavilion vs letting it fall away then I'm all for it. Again, there is so much culture there that I cab show my kids, adding a ride 2 (to a park that desperately needs it) can't be all that bad.

As long as people keep shopping and eating round World Hsowcase I don't think they will see the urgency of fixing Future World.

People are justifiably angry because they're left with Living With The Land, Tron Track, and other trashy rides as tier 1 FP+ selections while it is down. They are justifiably angry because Disney has spent almost nothing on improvements since Eisner left the building except Fantasy Land which is questionable as an improvement. I guess there's always circlevision.

Then don't visit? Why are people acting like they must go to Epcot? Why be angry over something so trivial.
