Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

The new footage, even the new Disneyland Resort stuff, is all for the new film that must first debut at Shanghai Disneyland.
Not trying to create doubt, but is it entirely true that it must debut in Shanghai first due to some contract stipulation or the like or simply that it will debut in Shanghai first or simultaneously with DCA and WDW just to create a big splash? last nice timeline or breakdown I saw of leaked news was a post @RSoxNo1 put up nearly 1 year ago but that referred only to simultaneous releases not exclusive release in Shanghai first.

They can be tiled. It is what was done for The Simpsons Ride.

No it isn't. Simpsons is four Sony 4k projectors overlapped. They can be tiled but IMAX doesn't have a system that aligns projectors tiled and there is no server that can supply the 8k image and split it into 4. They also wouldn't render the Simpsons animation at 8k.

Sorry to jump coasts, but while Florida is adding a 3rd theater California is doing this to their Soarin.

Thanks for attaching those photos @Virtual Insanity; that's been a stealth project going on behind construction walls for too long.

The debut of 4K digital Soarin' Over California on May 15th in Anaheim should be fascinating to see.

I think the Disneyland fans will be more excited about the newly themed area and the new shops and restaurants in the new Grizzly Peak Airfield section of the park. But the technology of the 4K digital projection that debuts at the same time inside the ride itself should be quite interesting to WDW and Disneyland fans alike. Counting down to May!...

If a Disney fan is interested in large format, digital 4k projection one could just go up to Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Studios Florida.

Looks like the Soarin' expansion is actually happening. Permit filed for the address of Soarin' with the description "Add facility to existing attraction - Project 87". Main contractor is PCL construction services who is the one doing Disney Springs and some of the hotel room rehabs. Expiration is 9/30/2016.

I assume this means that the idea of a permanent nacho stand behind the theater has finally taken hold. Huzzah!

And ride Soarin' Over California at those parks?
You keep dropping in "digital 4k" like some sort of new ground is being pioneered by adisney, with it first arriving at the Disneyland Resort. Disney's California Adventure may be a few months ahead of Walt Disney World but in terms of the technology they are years behind Universal. The Simpsons a Ride has been using multiple 4k projectors (so the image is more than just 4k) since it opened way back in 2008.

The image for The Simpsons is NOT more than 4k. You keep saying this but it isn't true. The 4 projectors are showing the same image overlapped because the Sony 4k SXRD projectors that they used can not put out enough light for one to illuminate a screen that size. All you have to do is look back at the projection port glass and you can clearly see the same image is coming from each projector. In fact, you can clearly see pixelization at certain points in The Simpsons.

The system that was used for The Simpsons is what IMAX digital was originally going to be. They switched to 2k DLP because it was too expensive to use 4 Sony projectors in each installation. They started with Sony because they wanted to do 4k and TI hadn't made a 4K DLP chip yet. Due to expense they went to 2K because DLP is much more light efficient than SXRD and they only needed 2 projectors per installation.

The IMAX digital system is designed to align the images to overlap. The multiple projectors are 100% to increase brightness, NOT resolution.

This Soarin' "upgrade" will be a downgrade in picture quality in every aspect except getting rid of the dust issue that they have unless they go with laser projectors. I still don't know why they have the dust issue because IMAX's film system is specifically designed to clean dust off. Maybe due to the 48fps rate (2x normal IMAX film) the film is passing over the particle transfer rollers too quickly to transfer the particles of dust off.

But Planes Fire and Rescue DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN CALIFORNIA!
Sure, it has elements that are "inspired" by the scenery of California, but there are also inspirations from other states like Montana and Nebraska. I mean, the main character is not even a Californian!
Disney CALIFORNIA Adventure is about the REAL PLACE of California NOT some imaginary land "inspired" by it.

(OK, please do not conclude that I support Frozen in World Showcase, because I don't. But the opportunity was too good to pass up).

I'm missing something here... maybe it's because I never saw the film, but what does the re-theming of Soarin' out in CA have to do with Planes Fire and Rescue? We can't assume the name of the grill means it's themed to that movie can we? California is known for having plenty of wild fires on its own.

I was taking that as sarcasm, but maybe it’s not. I doubt the re-theme will reference the Fire and Rescue movie at all. This was supposed to be part of the DCA 2.0 that debuted in 2012 but got cut. Instead they are slowing redoing various parts of the park that were not redone in 2012.

I really did think the airfield was supposed to be the one from the movie.

It does look a lot alike, but I guess that's just because they are both based on the same concept? So much for my attempt at brilliant humor.
