SYWTBAI Project 5 - Innovators
I really love the World Showcase. To me, it is one of the best experiences in any Disney parks. I feel like adding one more attraction will push it over the edge to bring in even more fans. Multiple countries in the World Showcase that don’t have an attraction currently, or have one coming. The countries are Japan, Germany, Italy, Morocco, and the United Kingdom. I was able to eliminate Morocco quite quickly due to the space around the pavilion. Japan has sort of a mini-attraction with a cultural museum so I decided to cross it off the list. The United Kingdom pavilion has been rumoured for many attractions so I decided to cross it off the list. That left me with Italy and Germany. After many deliberations and back and forth decisions, I decided the Germany pavilion. With that, I to present you…
The Rhine River Cruise
Before getting too far into this, a bit of the history with this attraction/ pavilion. The Rhine River Cruise was originally planned for the Germany pavilion. It was talked about in many books, including “a cruise down Germany's most famous rivers -- the Rhine, the Tauber, the Ruhr and the Isar. Detailed miniatures of famous landmarks will also be seen, including one of the Cologne Cathedral."
Unfortunately, this attraction never made it past the drawing board. Fortunately, the space for this attraction is still available and unused.
(area in red is the border of the proposed Rhine River Cruise area)
For this new version of the planned attraction, guests will start on the Rhine river, before moving to the Isar river before ending the cruise on the Lech river.
Before we go into the ride, let’s look at the layout of the originally planned attraction, and my design.
(original plan)
(my version)
Just like the original proposed Rhine River Cruise, these ride vehicles will all be facing outwards much like the railroad in Disneyland. Each ride vehicle will feature two cars. Each car will have three bench rows (will change for the dining experience) that can seat 4-5 guests per row. This allows for much larger scenes as well as ease for the dining experience (but more on that later).
After leaving the loading dock, guests first enter the city of Dusseldorf. The first thing guests will notice further back along the wall is the Ferris Wheel from Burgplatz. This large Ferris Wheel is a favourite for many in Dusseldorf.
From there, guests continue down the river to see Stadterhebungsmonument (what a mouthful). One of the oddest, creepiest, and most beautiful monuments is located right here in Dusseldorf. This monument will be much closer to the guests than the Ferris Wheel so that all guests can see this monument up close and personal.
To end the tour of Dusseldorf, guests travel past the Statue of Neptune in the Konigsalle. This large statue can be found in the middle of a river in Dusseldorf so will be replicated with this attraction.
Guests will follow it around the corner before going into the next city: Cologne.
The first sight guests will see is the Shrine of the Three Kings. The shrine is located in the famous Cologne Cathedral and is a triple sarcophagus for the Biblical Magi. This will be a life-size replica of the original one so guests can see it in all of its’ detail and beauty.
After that, guests pull up to where the Shrine is located: the Cologne Cathedral. One of the highlights of the city, the Cologne Cathedral is a large, gothic church located near the river. The attraction version will be located further back to give it a better impression of the size of it so that guests can take it in for all of its glory.
From here, guests will see the large bridge known as the Hohenzollern Bridge.
Guests will cross under this bridge to enter the next area of this beautiful country: The Black Forest.
One of the most famous forests in the world. The black forest is home to many classic fairy tales including Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. Guests will travel through this area to see all the beauty of this land. Lighting effects will be used to show a storm through the Black Forest.
Like you can see in this video below:
From there, guests continue on to a new river and a new city: the Isar river for the city Munich.
Munich is a smaller scene featuring only two buildings, but both are big in Munich. The first building guests will see is the Hofbrauhaus. One of the most famous bars in all of Germany will be featured in this attraction to show some of the history of brewing in Germany.
The other building found in Munich is Marienplatz. While the whole building is important, the main focus for the attraction will be the Glockenspiel. While I could explain how this looks, it is much easier to watch a quick video to see how it’d look.
Lastly, guests will end the attraction by going onto the Lech river. This is so that guests can end the attraction seeing the world famous Neuschwanstein Castle. Part of the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland, Neuschwanstein Castle in the attraction will be up on a hill to make it seem larger than life.
After this, guests end back at the unloading dock.
This attraction will open with the rest of the World Showcase. Every day, the attraction will close when the Biergarten opens for dinner. It will be closed for 30 minutes to adjust the ride vehicles for the dining experience. Bar-like tables will be added to the front wall for the first row as well as the removal of the second row of seats for another bar table for the third row. From then, to the end of the night, the Rhine River Cruise will become the latest and greatest dessert experience.
After guests finish dinner at the Biergarten, they head out towards to Rhine River Cruise so that they can enjoy the cruise around Germany while enjoying their delicious dessert. Didn’t have dinner at the Biergarten but still want to have a delicious German dessert and cruise? No worries! Using the mobile ordering app, guests can order their dessert ahead of time to have it ready for when they get to the cruise.
Some examples of the deserts available are Marble Cake, Schnecken, Baumkuchen, and of course, the world-famous black forest cake.
