Snow White to Close Thursday, May 31

I am glad to see it leave. We rode it once. All the kids cried. We acted like it did not exist after that first ride.

Wish another ride could be worked into that space.

That was the plan I thought too, but then I read recently that the track is going to be ripped out, so...

Well, the Snow White ride "track" is extremely basic with not much to it. It's just a bare concrete floor with an electrified rail down the middle of the path that the cars follow. It's far simpler than a ride with a physical track with rails like an Omnimover or coaster.

Ripping up the track now might actually be a good thing so that future designers can have a blank slate to work with, rather than be told "OK, design a new ride but you have to use this exact layout to save costs".

Big e tickets like Space mountain, Splash, etc do cost more than a meet n greet, but they are a big draw for the parks, handle more guests, etc, etc, so they are worth it. However, a B ticket like Pooh or Snow White is much less expensive to operate, per guest, than a meet n greet.

LOL, I'm getting deja vu. ;)

I think we tried to explain this in another thread awhile back. :)

Well when you put it that way, def makes sense. Just seems like it would still be less expensive to keep the track and build a new ride around it, but I do like the idea of a clean slate, someday a couple decades from now.

For anyone interested - I just spoke to my Disney contacts today, and they are going to create a special moment for my son on the evening of the 31st at 7pm. Several cast members have expressed a desire to meet Ben at the ride and help him say goodbye and get a little closure before the ride goes away forever. There is also a possibility that Snow White herself might stop by, but that is by no means a certainty.

I am so happy to hear this. I have been thinking about Ben since I heard about the closing. I first read about him in the Unofficial Guide, and then of course have seen you posting on line. Good wishes.

I'm not exactly sure of your son's relationship with the Snow White attraction but I can easily tell he loves that ride. I'm sorry it's leaving WDW but I'm glad Disney is creating something special for your family! That's great service! Hopefully you guys will be riding Snow White again soon at Disneyland! This isn't a goodbye, but more of a see you later. God bless.

I was just thinking about Ben the other day and hoping something special would be done for him. Thanks for letting us know, and have a great time!

DL has five classic dark rides in it's FL 'courtyard' - Pinocchio, Snow White, Peter Pan, Toad and Alice. A bit further in the park, they have Pooh and Small World too. And Roger Rabbit in Toontown plus Mermaid in DCA. That's nine classic dark rides.

The MK will have IASW, Pan, Pooh and Mermaid.

We're being had.

Well said. It is a joke that they are pulling a ride for a meet and greet. The crappy thing about the whole FL expansion is that they really aren't adding much in the way of capacity to the park. TLM replaces capacity that was taken away years ago(20K) and with SW closing all that the Dwarves ride is replacing that. The only real added capacity is the extra Dumbo spinner. What a joke and capacity is going to become even more of an issue once this xpass thing gets going so there will be even less fast passes available for attractions and additional rides having fast/xpass is just gonna make standby lines even worse than they are now.

They're most definitely adding capacity, it's the attraction count in the area that is remaining constant from when 20K Leagues Under the Sea was open. They've essentially doubled the capacity of the previous attractions though:
Little Mermaid is probably more than double than capacity of 20K Leagues Under the Sea.
Dumbo has doubled capacity
Mine Train will likely be close to double the capacity of Scary Adventures.

After riding the version in Paris earlier this month and watching videos of the attraction in 1990 (before it was neutered to not scare impressionable 6-year-olds), I can only say I am not sad to see what's there going ... just angry at what's replacing it.

I think the newer version was a lot better than the original. In the original they didn't have the music from the movie and other scenes. It was mainly just the scary witch poping out at you with an annoying screechy voice with a horrible soundtrack of wind or whatever in the background. At least the new one brought you through various scenes through the movie, you got to see all the different characters from the movie. The only thing I didn't like was the ending of the new one. It kind of just ends with no real bang or WOW factor. Hopefully they one day bring it back in some form or another.
