Fan Site Explains Ashlee Simpson's 'SNL' Lip-Synching Ashlee Simpson fan site "The Punk Rock Sister" claims to have obtained the reason why the singer was lip-synching on last night's 'Saturday Night Live'. The posting said: "Alright here is the scoop on what happened. Ashlee's voice has yet again been acting up. Her performance about 3-4 weeks ago on TRL was canceled when she couldn’t sing. The same thing happened here. She had been singing all day during the sound check and then complained to her voice coach that her throat hurt. Well, he told her to give it a try that they would run the actual vocals off the CD like planned only they would play them a little louder then planned. So Ashlee got out there and started sing to 'Pieces of Me' for about the first 15-45 seconds. If you noticed that there is a muffled sound in the beginning of the song and all of a sudden it went clear. Well, the director and Ashlee's voice coach decided that this was going to damage her voice because she was trying to hard and she has to perform on Monday, so they turned off the mics and turned the amps up. Ashlee was then going to actually sing 'Autobiography' the same way they had planned to sing 'Pieces' in the beginning but the drummer gave the sound guy the wrong cue. When he hits his sticks together or gives them a beat to start with before they start the song that is so they know when to start and what to play. Well he gave the wrong cue and the band played the right song but the sound guy didn’t. So after realizing that he had messed up the band quickly started to play 'Pieces' again and the sound guy quickly turned off 'Pieces' and turned on Ashlee’s mic so that she could sing the song. But once again the voice coach said no. So they cranked up the amps and drum mics and let them play while Ashlee was walked off stage not knowing that her mic was on at one point in time so she could sing. So all night they had been having problems with her voice and the equipment. Ashlee apologized for the upset to her fans but really did try her heart out to sing but was cut off mid performance. What a shame. It was reported that Ashlee didn’t want to lip-synch but evidently had no choice in the end. Her voice problem was also a reason for why her 'Tara Reid' skit wasn't aired."

Oh please if "her voice was acting up" then she should have cancelled instead of making a fool of herself! Haha She's the next gen. Milli Vanilli! Everyone now knows she can't sing now! bwahaha

well...here's my two cents on the issue.

I'm glad it has happened. I'm not foolish enough to believe that a majority of pop singers perform unaided. However, it seems that we have reached a point where record labels can turn any attractive person into a bonified singing sensation (even when said person lacks talent). Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan, Jessica Simpson, and Britney Spears pop into mind. All four of these girls (while attractive) lack any true musical ability.

Maybe this will open a lot of people's eyes.

It bugs me that so many bands out there (who perform live, write their music, play their own instruments, and sing UNAIDED) can never compete in record sales. Sometimes I actually perfer some imperfections in live performances. It makes the artists seem--human. The best live pop-act I have ever seen is BNL. They put on a good and TRUTHFUL show.

Finally, having seen so many amazing broadway musicals, it proves that it is VERY possible to sing and dance live--and do so almost every night. IMHO, these actors/actresses are the most talented in all of showbusiness. They have incredibly powerful voices, they dance, and they do it all LIVE. It's sad that they don't get the recognition they deserve.

The latest is that Ashlee's dad is saying the lip synching was due to her having "acid reflux!" Haha This is hilarious how ridiculous these excuses are getting.

We are going to need a separate thread to keep up with all the different excuses if this keeps up.

I second I-99 - there are too many talented bands who don't get major recording contracts and exposure to the ever-consolidating FM radio networks.

Ugh... pop "divas." Do any of them write their own songs????

Finally, something to speed up the demise of pop and rise of rock!!!!!!!!!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Are people going to believe her when there are 3 different excuses?

I'm with you, 99.

I also want to say that no one is perfect. How could they expect us to think that the sound exactly on the cd is what it sounds in concert? It would take so much work to make a song perfect live. They aren't fooling anyone.

I'm in a band. We played a concert on saturday. We didn't make any money. Or lip sync. The real deal isn't appreciated.

What was hopping going to prove?

I just don't understand what her logic was in jumping up and down. Was she thinking, "If I look really, REALLY stupid people won't realize I'm not singing!"?

She should have just started singing and sound like crap. At least people would still have a mediocre respect for her.

It really is a shame. Her career is done before it ever really started... and all that money that MTV wasted. We could have gotten more episodes of Real World/Road Rules Challenge.

At the very least, they couldn't cover it up and make it seem like a planned joke? It's SNL! Thats what they do.. Parody people... Like, make it a criticism of somebody like Britney Spears?

I'm not talking Ashlee's side... but, I still can't believe that the best she could do was a hoedown.. lol.. though, I must admit it was extreamly funny...

One of the best vocal performances I've heard on SNL in recent history is Miss Aguilera. Despite what you think about her as a person or a performer, that girl can SING.
I agree with you. She does sing, and she has a great voice. ...and I saw her on her first 'concert' at the West end stage at P.I. back in '99! Genie in a bottle, remember it? ;)

I've been saying the same thing all day! I think if they did parody it, it would be the first time they've ever parodied their own show, no?
