Snack price increases?

we get it...you want WDW food prices to be in line with what you would pay at a local restaurant. Right? Because that is the only way for their food to be reasonably priced. But we all know that is never going to happen. Prices will continue to rise here just like everywhere else on this planet...sometimes by a lot...sometimes by a little...

Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of the price on their mickey bar...

I don't think anyone expects WDW prices to be in line with local restaurants. We were fortunate enough to be able to afford a vacation at Disneyland last year. We paid very high prices for food-- but felt it was worth it-- because at Disneyland, the Walt Disney Company is still offering a premium experience. Food quality and quality of service was WAY above what WDW offers. DL's idea of QS often involves real silverware, plates and a live band, not a half-cooked burger and greasy fries shoved into an under-sized paper basket.

All of that nonsense has nothing to do with your prior statement about a child not needing to have souvenirs, desert parties, snacks, etc to have a fun trip. If you truly believed that then you would have had no need to purchase those very same things for your own child, regardless of disposable income. If they don't need it, then why Did You buy them?

Omg. Are you serious? We don't "need" them. I did them bc I wanted to. That's all. Because my set budget allowed for them...bc I see value in them. If someone does not see value then they shouldn't purchase them.

Again, I am not claiming that a price of an ice cream will prohibit me from visiting WDW. I am stating, to the people who are claiming that, how one can still go to WDW even with a $5 Mickey Bar- just eat less. Rocket Science, I know.

There's a difference between "needs" and "wants." When it's a "want," you do what's in your budget only after all of your needs are satisfied.
Understandable, but I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of her claim that a child does not "need" those "wants", yet she capitulated nonetheless.

I think it's a lost cause. There can only be 2 things happening here-

1. Some people just wish to be obstinate.
2. Some people can't grasp the concept of a budget.

I'm hoping it's number 1.

Yeah, but she's not the one on here crying about price increases. Her point is simple:

IF you can't afford something, OR
IF you don't find it to be a fair value, AND
That thing is not a need,
THEN you should skip it.

If you CAN afford something and you DO find it to be a fair value, then the imperative to skip it does not apply.

Or 3. Stupid is as stupid does
Well number 3 definitely fits me right now.
I don't know why I continue in these threads.. maybe bc I just hope someone will look at a situation realistically, and realize that it isn't the sky caving in?

I don't know. I'm banging my head against a wall at this point though.

Do you often refer to items of value as "stupid"?

I believe you recognize what my point and are just choosing to ignore it by shifting the topic to budgets and mickey bars to deflect. I forgot that I was talking with the same person who mysteriously "could not find" the cabanas in Tomorrowland even after using the restroom right next to them.

Please can you stop using logic and sense. It has no place in this thread.

Wait, did I switch threads? Isn't this the one about $5 Mickey Bars? Full of comments how said Bars are the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back?

Hmm. Apologies if I was transported to a different one.

As for the $15 light bulb necklace. Yes. I think $15 was stupid. Yes, I still purchased it. No, I don't regret purchasing the stupidly high priced item. I do regret not purchasing one at our local Walgreens before the trip. All can exist at once.

Your cabana comment is completely incorrect so I'll choose to pass on that one. Go back and read that thread again.

Her comment was simple, but also conflicting with her own actions.

Do you get a discount on alcohol at Trader Sam's and at the resort pools? That alone would be worth it for me.

Trader Sam's didn't have a discount on food for an AP either.
No discount at Trader Sams for anything. Still loved it. Resort pools I haven't asked. We haven't been to one in a bit.

My "you're kidding me" was not about the relative quality of Disneyland quick-service, it was in your description of WDW food as half-cooked burgers and greasy fries. I'll agree that WDW QS burgers aren't great, but if anything they're far more likely to be over-cooked than under. As to the greasy fries, that's entirely a matter of choice. I often go full weeks on property without touching a single french fry.

Ok, for comparison to the DL photo above, this from Restaurantasaurus:

I would not say it really tricks anyone, it just helps to make the math work out in favor of it.

This is most likely why the character meals have been priced to the moon over the last decade. If you want to do Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Faire, the DDP suddenly makes financial sense.
