Snack price increases?

Which Marriott has free-roaming giraffes outside the window? Which Marriott has a pool that looks like this?

Which Marriott has a lobby that looks like this?

Which Marriott has a sky-train that takes you directly to the Magic Kingdom?

Would "none" be an accurate answer?

I can find a ton of pictures of Marriott like the ones below. These are just from one in San Antonio, TX. There are a lot of nice Marriotts out there (minus giraffes).

You're missing the point. If your camel's back is breaking, it's YOUR FAULT for overloading him in the first place, long before the snack price increases.

Disney offers millions of configurations of vacations packages. They control price alone. YOU control frequency of visit, length of visit, time of year, mode of transportation, on site versus off site, which resort, which restaurants, etc. etc. etc. When price changes, you can pull any one of those other levers to make the cost fit within your budget. Or you can get a bigger camel.

LOL, make assumptions much? I'm not missing the point at all. I'm not interested in packing a lunch, drinking tap water or sharing meals on vacation.

We already stay at a value resort, don't rent a car, don't take expensive tours, have cut the length of our trips in half, etc. We have already cut the items we are willing to cut. Our next move will be to stop going. That's a big step, but we are considering it. I keep watch here to keep my finger on the pulse of what's going on in the parks, so we can make an informed decision on our next step.

You know what's funny?
No, that's totally unrealistic. And would be a big mischaracterization of my concern.

I just don't want the crazy spikes they have had over the past year.

People here aren't reacting to high prices. They are reacting to the breathtaking way in which those prices have spiked recently.

Price spikes are not unusual...for WDW or anywhere else...which is why I said, "Prices will continue to rise here just like everywhere else on this planet...sometimes by a lot...sometimes by a little"

I understand. It sucks. If you want to write a letter to Disney, go for it. But it shouldn't be a surprise...or a shock..I see these types of things happen everyday. I assume you do as well unless you live in some sort of magical bubble...

No, I actually don't see price spikes like that every day. Thankfully.

Of course there are. There's also a huge difference between "very nice" and "magical." Not everyone feels that when when they enter a WDW resort. Many people do. Personally, I feel it most in AKL, WL, and POR. That "feeling" doesn't show up on an amenities list, which was my main point. You can't just compare one hotel's list of amenities to another hotel's list of amenities and use that to determine which one is "better" or which ought to have a higher price. WDW resorts have theming and location that no other hotels anywhere have.

That's fine. But your post came across as "show me a Marriott with a pool like this". I did. And it's a better one. "Magic" is what one makes of it....regardless of where it's at (or if it smells of cow spit out on your balcony).

I was referring to the collective "you," not YOU specifically, and I think you know that. You seem to be well informed and responsible. If you reach the point where your income doesn't keep up with price increases and you have to stop going (or you decide to go less frequently), that's unfortunate. What you need to realize is that there are loads of people who can't afford to go and still go anyways. I lived in Orlando for three years and the cloud of self-inflicted debt around Disney vacations is depressing (and a big problem among cast members, too).

DUH!! Re-read my post. I said people are paying for location at WDW. Also, if you want to look at what Marriott has to offer, I would suggest visiting their website. I believe they do have resorts that are comparable to this, but I'm not going to do the work for you.

But if i get a bigger camel it's just going to want more icecream bars ...

Inflation and cost of production are one side of the equation. Deliberate cheapening of the product quality is another. And it's happening across WDW.

And this extends to offering "experiences" at a premium price that are actually nothing more than what you get with the price of admission. Slapping the word "premium" on something doesn't automatically make it so - although they have done a fantastic job of convincing people it's premium because they said so.

the price increases on food are occuring so quickly that Disney doesn't have time to change their signage to reflect the increases. That's pretty bad!
