I am a non-smoker and understand smokers being upset. I feel that in recent years, with the number of smoking areas lowered and located in more out-of-the-way areas, the conditions were improved and reasonable accommodations were still being made for smokers (the Adventureland smoking area was unavoidable for anyone, and if you didn't know it was there, the Tomorrowland area on the walking path was also unavoidable, for example).

That being said, I'm still happy with the decision.

But, I hope that the smokers on these boards who mention breaking the rules in other places would be adult and respectful enough not to "sneak" cigarettes while walking through the parks, in bathrooms, etc. Because it takes a certain kind of person (a description that is banned here and not exactly lady-like ;)) to carelessly and selfishly light up where there are children, babies and especially Make-a-Wish children, where your cigarette smoke could cause serious, immediate harm.

I’m getting tired of avoiding the stumbling drunks, especially in Epcot . Had one guy fall into me while walking by Morocco last December. But it’s a money maker so add another alcoholic kiosk.
It’s just funny that 95% of smokers say this is the bad. Same percentage of anti smokers says this is great. Same with the new stroller policy. 95% of parents with little ones are complaining while others trying to move around the park say it’s about time. Wish everyone could just see both sides and understand the other side. People will complain if you give them a million dollars wondering why it’s not a million and a half.
Disney is a great place but they don’t do anything that’s not somehow going to bring in revenue. They don’t do things that hurt the bottom line so somewhere they figure this will make them money. We all have to deal with it if we choose to go, smokers or parents that want the big strollers.

This is a long time coming and finally a reality!

Don't know why Disney took this long with getting rid of smoking. Hopefully they have proper plans in place to get rid of people who break this most needed new rule. I would propose a slap on the wrist at first then a complete banning if caught a second time. With Star Wars opening the lost revenue of a few bad apples will be pointless and will make a splendid example to those who cannot control themselves.

Bravo Disney, brav-o!

I'd say the no smoking at Epcot may compound the people who have overindulged that smoke being aggressive.

You’re assuming the reason for the change is other peoples’ allergies.
No, Going by other guest’s comforts- I love pets and am not singling them out- I know you love yours. Not saying anything against that, but it does bother me now, even in the slightest with a long haired dog. I have never complained, about it before, but, if we cut smoking out of already certain sections, cut the dogs out too, that are not there for a true, needed reason. And I love ya to death and the pup, (love your reports) just using it for an example, as it really does stop my whole head up and give me hives. I hate that it does, more than anybody, trust me! I just don’t think it is fair. :-/

I get what you’re saying, but that may have nothing to do with Disney’s change. I don’t know that they’ve explained their reasoning anywhere?

Sorry, but I was unaware some people’s asthma could be that severe. I know someone with asthma, inhaler and all, who both smokes and vapes frequently without issues. Dead serious about that, so I apologize for my ignorance. Still, there should be SOME special area where we can smoke.
Asthma can be life-threatening. I've had two incidents (neither having to do with smoking) where someone called 911 and I was taken to the ER via ambulance. Both times, I couldn't speak because I couldn't get enough air in. I have the usual rescue inhaler, and I have two additional inhalers that I take everyday, plus an add on that I can also use as a rescue inhaler or take daily when my asthma is bad. I have two nebulizers (they're machines that deliver the medication in a mist form), one that lives in my room, and a smaller portable one that lives in my car, but I also take on vacation. I have to put two different medications in the nebulizer for it to be effective for me. I can't use regular cleaners; I either have to make my own or buy the natural variations because cleaners will trigger my asthma. I have trouble with cold weather and have seriously considered moving south. Cigarettes and vapes will trigger my asthma, and cigars are the worst. A few years ago, I was down at the hot tub at BWV late at night. Someone lit up a cigar near the hot tub in a non-smoking area. I had to leave the hot tub, rush back to my room, and use my nebulizer, and then use it again the next morning. And I've met people with asthma more severe than mine.

Some of the smoking areas were just in the middle of the path. Epcot was the worst. I really cannot decide which side of this issue I'm on. The smoking areas were sometimes hard to avoid and it would be better in general if there was no smoking anywhere, but on the other hand, without the designated areas, I worry about more smokers lighting up wherever they feel like it.

As a sidenote, I try not to judge smokers because I know nicotine is extremely addictive but. in the case of your buddy, he seriously needs to quit if he has asthma. Asthma plus smoking is a recipe for disaster. I'm sure he's already heard this from his doctors, but still, it's a very bad idea.

These changes fill me with a level of joy I haven’t felt for Disney for a long time. Positive changes for the common good that don’t in any way increase profits? How rare a day it is!

I just don’t want people to think I am against pets, I love them to death. To a ridiculous degree. I never complain, about hair flying up, which does so bother me now, I have to have shots- I don’t think the people smoking only where they should, as I always do- away from regular guests should really be a big deal. :)

Commercial cleaners! Oh, lordy- to walk into a restaurant john and get hit with that industrial Tree Themed Cleaner! I know your pain.
