Skyway Station Demolition

Per the Orange County Permit site, the Skyway station will be demolished.

There seems to be some sort of confusion as to what is getting demolished, as the address on the permit points to the Tomorrowland Skyway Station getting demo'd, in fact that was demolished nearly two years ago as part of the Space Mountain refurb. Thus, it is believed that the Fantasyland Skyway Station is getting demolished.

Yea, I'm very confused. 1200 Monorail Way is the TL Skyway (according to a few people on Twitter), but there is no Skyway station there anymore. Wouldnt they then label it as restroom demolition?

The labels on permits don't change for years (they still call "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" the "Living Seas"). There really isn't much left to demolish at the Tomorrowland Skyway Station, unless they were demolishing the restrooms, which I doubt they would do because there are only two restroom locations in TL.

I don't mind any demolishon of anything not being used, or a demolishing of restrooms :animwink:

But don't you think we have enough of mermaid and nemo? They both (will) have two attractions. Finding Nemo: The Musical, The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Voyage of the Little Mermaid (HWS), Little Mermaid dark ride (MK)...

Then Toy Story has it's two attractions, BLSRS, and TSM.

Even if a restroom is getting Nemo'd, i think disney should just build a park for pixar and trap all of the pixar people there! :goodnevil :ROFLOL:

As of now it seems it`s either the SSC stage, the Toontown station (further north and rebuilt in 2004) or the wrong address and the Fanland station. Any of which are possible.

To my current knowledge, isnt the only things located there the bathrooms and if it is still even there, the AAA lounge? Maybe they have realized that is such a big building and they could probably manufacture some bathrooms next to the arcade/exit to SM. so they can definately use that space for a new ride. which would go along the lines of AtHomeBoy_2000's comment about the Project Z Thread.

Plus I and still for a Wall-E Dark Ride! :D

Definitely perplexing.

I searched old permit files and threads, and couldn't find the original one for the second floor demolition. This one is indeed new, and the permit itself wasn't accidentally re-filed because - as someone said - it was filed, stamped, signed and recorded today.

The company doing the work is Central Environmental Services, which is a major demolition company. They don't mess around with tearing down sheds or landscape beds - they destroy buildings.

The address definitely puts it in Tomorrowland. Main Street East is all in the 1300s Monorail Way.

It's very unlikely, but possible, that they'd submit a permit with the wrong data on it. It would have to pass in front of MANY eyes before it got to the point of being recorded. Someone along the way would notice what it said for the address and description, since those are two of the most important fields on the application.

However, I would find it hard to believe that they're actually going to tear down the TL skyway building - at least not yet. Those are the only restrooms in the land (excluding Cosmic Ray's) and they just invested a ton of money into the partial demolition/remodel. They don't have any sort of contingency in place, so if this permit really is for the demolition of that building, it's significantly premature.

Then again, it COULD be for "selective demolition". I would find it hard to believe they'd involve CES for something minor (they'd do it in-house or with locals).

A good find, nonetheless, SeaCastle. I officially posted today's permits, with this included.

What about the "turn" in the Skyway? Is any of that equipment still there? IIRC that was near the Speedway. Maybe it has something to do with the speedway reconfig?

BTW, the permit says "Skyway demolition" not "Skyway Station demolition"

If there's anything left of the turning apparatus, it's just the foundation. But perhaps they ran into it unexpectedly when re-routing the track (although, I think it was in the next grassy area east).

Good call on the nomenclature.

Take a look at the photo below - it does sound like it could it be foundations for either of those posts in the background (straight back and the far right) interfering with the track re-alignment.

IT sounds to me like this is about removing old ride equipment, not any buildings -- it would either be for the speedway or for FLE itself, since it would fall within the walled in area already blocked off....most likely removing old electrics and bases that were just covered over at the time of ToonTown installation....

I wouldn't get too excited about anything new going in there....just routine tear out for the projects they are already working on...

could it be that they forgot to file a permit back when they demolished the tomorrowland station above the restrooms? and they are now filing?

Very likely indeed.

Even more likely. Probably just foundations and infrastructure they buried in their hasty removal of the ride.

Naw. They'd probably just pay a fine.

I'm with those postulating the dog-leg touchdown foundation.

That was a mighty piece of concrete and I am sure that when they removed the skyway they just took away the touchdown equipment and left the foundation.

Now that they are re-doing the area its time to bust up and remove the concrete.
