That does look like absolute $@!?…regardless

That’s the problem area right there. Based on angles and guests point of view, it would be pretty easy to hide the box in the distance with some foliage and props. I know my “artist concept” is hideous but was just to give an idea ;) I’m not defending the box, I think it’s atrocious and looks like an ikea dropped down in the middle of Tomorrowland, just trying to think of away to lessen the damage.

And here is the same spot as the page 1 image of Tron. There's Tomorrowland on the right.

I assume they will put in plants. Maybe theme the building backside like they did with the Bug's Life land at DLR.

Seems like Tomorrowland has always been viewable from the Barnstormer/Train area. This says it is from 2016:

The issue isn't Tomorrowland being visible from Fantasyland.

The issue is a big, looming, unthemed showbuilding being visible from guest-accessible areas.

If the TRON showbuilding were either sufficiently themed or aesthetically pleasing (like Space Mountain) this wouldn't be the big deal that it is.

EDITED To Add: Just because this post made me think of it, here's a fantastic photo from back in the day of Space Mountain seemingly looming over the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea lagoon:

And who is to say they won't paint or theme it? Maybe they don't and that would be a mistake, but it seems we're judging an unfinished product at this point.

The picture illustrates why concealing the building is not easy. There just is not a lot of space available for things like trees or scenic elements. Something tall and/or wide needs more space in the ground to be secure.

The same way we knew they weren’t going to paint or theme the Cosmic Rewind box. The building envelope is pre-finished insulated metal panels, a piece of foam sandwiched between two sheets of metal. The finish is not just paint, it’s PVDF, an integrally colored plastic polymer, so painting would require a lot of additional work to make it suitable for painting. Any sort of theming would also make the pre-finish a waste of money and it needs some sort of support to hold it in place which those walls are not designed to handle. The walls are finished.

An existing guest area is not an unintentional angle. It is known, especially now when technology has also made it easier than ever to do sight line studies. In the case of TRON it wouldn’t even require that much effort, these issues should not be a surprise to anyone involved.

Which sounds bad but if you include my second paragraph you’ll see I specifically mentioned if the intention is for the trees to eventually mask the unintentional view.

I don’t mean unintentional as Disney didn’t realize it would be visible from there, I meant unintentional as in they don’t want you to see it from that angle.

Why spend $10 million theming an area you don’t want people to see if you can spend $10,000 on trees that will mask it and blend it into the background?

Disney has a tree farm for the purpose of not having to wait for trees to grow. You also need a place to plant trees. Putting vertical strips on a building is the opposite of trying to make it blend into the background.

And hopefully once they actually finish construction and landscape along the retention pond, the train tracks, the path, and the show building this whole discussion will be moot. Time will tell.

Again, you need a place to put trees. If they thought it was going to just be background it would be green and/or blue like Cosmic Rewind, not vertically striped.

Once construction is over and all the heavy machinery is moved out there will be plenty of room between the buildings and the retention pond and plenty of room in the front corner between the building and bathrooms/lockers.

Usually they only paint something blue if they think it’ll be visible from inside the park and they’re trying to make it disappear, the fact they didn’t indicates to me they don’t think it’ll be visible once the landscaping is installed so they just continued with the same panels they were using for the sides visible from outside the park.

Again, time will tell, we’re judging a project before it’s done. If they do nothing I’ll be just as disappointed as others, I just know in the past they’ve done wonders with landscaping so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until they finish.
