I remember seeing a shuttle launch through the stained glass walls from a performance of the Candlelight Processional in December-2006. Now that was a bright candle in the night!

We just watched it from out side our house, we're in Davenport, Florida. What a beautiful site, we could see it clearly for a good 5 minutes and then once it was out of site we watched the rest on the news.

I prefer a launch at night time over day as it is spectacular to see, did everyone notice it was such a stary night tonight as well. Day launches we usually drive down closer to Cape Canaveral.

same here, watched from Davenport, FL, am about 10 min from WDW so they would have got just as good view. Night launches are def better than day launches, but i still don't think it was as good as the shuttle launch in March of this year which took place at dusk, the sunset tied with the space shuttle launch, was perfect. It was dark enough for the launch to look like a night launch, yet the sunsets colors caught its trial in the sky, it was beautiful. -

heres a pic from march of shuttles trail.

One of of the MickeyMousemoms posted pic's on my FB wall, that is one of those things that are on my bucket list.;)

Only 6 shuttle launches left and then the current administration is pretty much putting the brakes on America's manned space exploration missions :(. So you might want to make plans to get to the Kennedy Space Center and soon.

Oh yea, I forgot that, that is just sad.:(. I am sure seeing others videos do not even compare to seeing with your own eye's

A night launch would be awesome to see.
I saw a launch in 2006 from the top floor of the Pop Century. Pretty cool. But night looks much more impressive.

I'll be at Disney in on the day this shuttle returns to Florida. Assuming it isn't diverted to California, does anybody know if I'll be able to see its return approach to Canaveral or maybe at least hear the sonic boom from WDW?

its rare to see it coming into land here in orlando as its doesn't have all the fire to help illuminate it, but you do sometimes hear the sonic boom if the shuttle is coming in to land passing over orlando (and believe me you can't miss the boom if she does come over orlando, i can hear it inside my house.)

Very nice clip dandaman ^^^. I was in Flordia in Oct 2007 and caught the launch of the shuttle while at Universal. Amazing from 50 or so miles away. Just about noon that launch, 12 hours earlier than yours.

Sweet!

Um, the current administration hasn't outlined its future plans for NASA and manned spaceflight is, sadly, murky right now.

But the last administration (in just about the only thing I give them credit for) pushed ahead for a moon base and eventual trip to Mars without coming up with the funds necessary to do it. That's what the current dude has to deal with.

Support for the program has been described as being 'miles wide and an inch deep' meaning people don't have a stomach for paying for space exploration, even though it's part of mankind's legacy or should be ... and it doesn't even cost much when compared to say two wars ... or bailing out Wall Street or Detroit etc ...

But I can just hear the rightwing critics if tomorrow Obama said he wants to get us back to the moon in five years and will spend whatever it takes to do so ... or if says Mars is the goal and money won't stand in the way.

People don't want to pay for healthcare (something that affects us all daily), so imagine trying to get people to support going off-planet just because we should.

Oh, and I'll now point out that this thread isn't about WDW News or Rumors and should be moved.

Heres how it looks from Titusville, went when we were at WDW last month. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSXNTHaeMRc

Back when I was a CP I got to see a night launch form Animal Kingdom. We had a corporate event going on in the park that night and I got stuck working late, at least my manager was cool enough to let me sneak out to on of the bridges to watch, its amazing at night how bright the sky gets even from WDW. They say you can see some of a day launch from the parks, but I'm sure its a tad hard.

Flame me if you want to, but the best "entertainment" I have ever enjoyed at WDW was catching a night launch of the shuttle. Amazing as that posted video was, you have to see it in person. We all take the shuttle for granted and space exploration for granted. We act like its no big deal anymore to go to space. Really??

An amazing feat of engineering and good ol'American know how. If you haven't seen a launch (day or night), get it done in your lifetime. There is NOTHING like it in the world.

Thanks. When it's coming in, I'll make sure I'm outside to get the full affect of the boom!

I also had a friend that saw the launch all the way from just north of Myrtle Beach.... granted the only thing they saw was the yellow path of the SRB's until the separated.... but its amazing what you can see on a clear night.

Also... this is news pertaining to WDW, because it concerns an event that could be observed from on the property that will cause guests to sometimes stop what they are doing and, excuse the term, gawk. The thread goes off topic and becomes out of place when you start bringing politics of the space program into the discussion.

Anyways, I missed the May launch because of a tour I was on, but I doubt I would've seen much in the middle of the day, unlike the night time launches.
