Shuttle Launch at 7:55 PM

Weird.

Normally I can see launches from my home about 160 miles south of the cape, especially at night.

But didn't see a thing tonight at all.

I remember a night launch in 12/06 that I watched from the top of Dolphin Stadium and that was very cool.

But since this is a Disney board my kewlest overall launch with a Disney twist was John Glenn's return to space on Discovery that I watched from Tomorrowland. To see the shuttle lift off over SpMtn was just an amazing sight ... one I won't soon forget.

Too bad so many people in this country are so blase over something so amazing. Maybe when/if Ares begins the long journey back to the moon (and then on to Mars) people will wake up and realize we are an exploring species who should be out amongst the stars seeking answers to questions that haven't even been posed yet.

Of course, I might just be a bit psyched up from seeing the amazing trailer to JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie a few hours ago!

;)

YES.

Way too many folk are not interested in this. Even EPCOT fans.

Clear for launch

The launch was easily viewed from east of WDW. A few scattered thin clouds, pierced by the orange flame, which after a few minutes turned to white flame. The white dot was visible for a few more minutes as it headed towards the horizon.

The only time I've heard any rumbling was when I drove over to Titusville... 50 miles east of Orlando. People may have heard jets leaving Orlando airport, but not the shuttle launch unless they were a lot closer than WDW.

Courtesy of my station, FOXToledo.com, by way of the Associated Press.

Here's the lift-off story I posted.

Oh, and during the holding pattern as I was watching from my desk here at the station, a nice yellowish full moon passed over Endeavor while mission control at the Cape held the shuttle at T-minus 9 minutes at around 7 p.m. Sweet.

Most of them are but they do not necessarily seek it out. I have my telescope out at least once a week and people will always pass by and say "see anything good" Most of the time I will show them what I am looking at and they are always amazed. I love showing Saturn to people. They always love it.

Too much cloud cover to see it here tonight. I've managed to see a few in the past; mostly by just being in the right place at the right time, and realizing what I was seeing.

I have seen 2 launches.1 was the last succesful Challenger flight in Aug85 when we were actually allowed on to Kennedy Space Center because of my dad being a police officer(he was one in Indy but they saw our car plate and let us in) It was a amazing experience to be just 2 miles from the launch pad.The 2nd I saw from my dads house in Davenport in April02.It was cool to see it from so far away.

Sadly, I have to agree. All the people my age don't seem to care about anything, really.

But if they don't like EPCOT, science or history, they have to be the nerds, right? :lookaroun

It has been a life long goal of mine to view a live shuttle launch. I almost realized that goal last year but had to cancel plans. Unfortunately, the shuttle program's days are numbered so time is not on my side to view a live launch. I'm sure that it, along with the Saurn V launches, must be spectacular.

Well, in a few years when the Ares Program starts up, you can see something akin to the S V launches as the new rocket they will use is based off of it.:king::sohappy:

I drove over to Cocoa Beach and hung out there all day to see it. We were going to park off the highway and watch it from there, but thought we'd look sketchy cause we got there so early. Ah well, next time... well... next launch I'll be purchasing tickets. :P

It was very cool. Lit up the whole sky when it went off.
