Due to the mess in Atlanta, Airtran cancelled our flight for tonight and can't rebook us until late Saturday...scheduled to come home on Sunday. So, needless to say, no Disney for us this week. :(

Instead of enjoying our first evening at the Boardwalk, I get to shovel MY walk...that's fun too, right?

Working to book a new trip...hopefully in the next couple weeks. Called DVC...not much open on days we can travel. This stinks! :brick:

So sorry to hear about this! Ack, we leave in a little over 3 weeks, I really hope this snowy blitz of a winter has calmed down by then!

Not to mention that Florida itself gets out of the 50's and 60's! brrr!

I really hope you can figure something out! Get a direct flight or something, jeez, I have no idea what I'd do, but I'd probably sell my dog to find a way to get there anyway . . . . .

Disclaimer: I do not own a dog, just a figure of speech.

that is INSANE! I have never heard of a delay like that for a relatively small storm... not even noreasters here in new england are affected that long, our last storm we got 20 inches and planes were locked down 2 days

While they only got 4 to 7 inches the entire city of Atlanta only has 8 snow plows. By comparison Logan airport alone has 10 Vammas machines specifically designed for clearing runways and a fleet of regular plows. There is simply nothing they can do but ride it out.

Actually, it wasn't the snow but the 2" of ice that has everything shut down......

I was gonna point this out, too. :D Atlanta also got quite the coat of ice. My sis-in-law lives in the Atlanta area (Lawrenceville) and I believe the schools have been closed as well. Ice in that terrain paired with the general driving style found on the major veins in and around Atlanta a lot of the city's businesses are closed and employees were asked to stay home for general public safety reasons.

To the OP, that stinks for you! How awful! I'm so sorry. I can't sympathize with the specifics of shoveling snow considering I've only seen miniscule quantities a few times in my life. My heart goes out to ya, tho. Maybe this means there's something even more magical in store for you when you finally get there. Here's to hoping for warmer, pixie dusted days for you and your family!

They couldn't try to get you on a different airline. From what I see, other airlines (delta) left from ATL to go to MCO today.

Unfortunately not....they said they couldn't get anything into Atlanta all day and are so backed up that Saturday was the first available. They had one direct flight scheduled to leave this morning (about an hour after I heard we were cancelled) but it was full and we're a 45 minute ride to the airport, so we never would have made it anyway. We both HAD to be back for work on Monday, so we couldn't even adjust the trip. They did give us a full refund in the form of an airline credit, which is great. By the time we got all of that straightened out, we weren't able to find any other flights on diff. airlines to get us there today or tomorrow without paying a fourtune. Looking at some early Feb dates but were both nervous to book that and then have another weather episode. Of course, knowing our luck, we won't book for Feb and it will be sunny and beautiful...figures!

I'm sorry about your trip. We're supposed to go to WDW for a getaway weekend next Friday, and I worry that we'll get snowed out. Hopefully this storm that's coming tonight will be our last for a few weeks!

We're leaving the 29th and I am hoping the same thing. I hope this snow is the last bit for a while. My aunt, uncle and my cousins are there now, they arrived Sunday. My uncle was supposed to fly back home tomorrow and 2 of my cousins fly to MCO tomorrow night so the dogs wouldn't be alone for long. With the storm coming, we (I booked their trips) moved their flights to today. Except my Uncle's got cancelled and had to rebook for Thursday and my cousins are flying in to Orlando tonight. Its causing so many problems.

DisneyFan I am so sorry and I hope you can get to WDW very soon!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I live in Atlanta and trust me - Airtran had no choice LOL it's been a mess here. Clearly they were ready for the snow but it's not the snow that has been the problem...it's all the darned ice! about an inch of it. I haven't been to work in 2 days so all are feeling the crunch here.

I am sorry about your trip though and hopefully you can fit one in soon. I'd be disappointed as hell in your situation!:(

YES What Master Yoda is saying! Again it isn't the snow that killed us (8 inches folks...not 2 or 3 LOL) - it is the ICE! Heck, all the major interstates were shut down 99% of today....285, 75, 20 - none of the truckers listened to the State's request to stay away from Atlanta (and heck they can't really because some of them need to get to FL lol) but what happened is they all got stuck or jackknifed or whatever and everything came to a standstill. The state has been at a virtual standstill since Saturday evening when this all started. Delta alone cancelled over 1700 flights....LUCKILY this Saturday and Sunday we should hit 50 degrees:sohappy:

I am really sorry to hear that, did since you used DVC, were they able to work with you and the points? Or are you going to be out of luck with that? Because I think that would really upset me. But I am hoping they were able to work with you.

Again I am sorry you couldn't get out of Atlanta.....that is really a bummer.:brick:

Honey, we are SNOWED IN! My kids will be out of school tomorrow and that will be their 3rd snow day. We got 4-5 in. of snow here (we live about 40 miles from the airport) the problem is it's all frozen over because the temps have been so low. Quite unusual for our area, my kids have NEVER had more than one day off due to snow (usually it only takes an inch of snow to get school cancelled). But fear not, we are surviving the great storm of '11! (I grew up in NJ and also lived in AK for 5 years so I find it hilarious their reaction to this type of weather!)
