This is part of why things cost so much. Just think if no one stole, or littered, or vandalyzed; we wouldn't have to pay for it.

Some companies prefer to let people steal so they can profile and catch them later.

You know you can blame the lack of maturity of a teenager who is shoplifting. If an adult steals, they really should know better because the cost of the items stolen causes the inventory shortage costs to be passed on to the consumer. That makes me so mad. What makes that person think they have the right to take whatever they want without paying? I am not like that, so I cannot understand it. Do you think he went back to his family and showed him what he bought them? If I see someone stealing at Disney, I am going to try to rat them out, too.

A teenager is old enough to know right from wrong and that Stealing is Wrong.

I witnessed 2 kids walking off with perfume from a shop in Epcot, it really bugged me I did not tell the CM but I followed them outside and walked up to the kids and said I work for Disney and I witnessed what you did. I will give you a chance to go in and place it back on the shelf if not I will report the theft. They returned the item and I sad this was your lucky day remember the break you got today next time you may not be so lucky.

I saw a lady drop some pins into her purse at the Tower of Terror gift shop quite a few years ago. I said something quite loudly to the cm's that were nearby. They didn't do anything about it, but the lady looked really shocked that I called her on it and as she scampered away gave me a nasty look. I gave her one right back. It upset me though, I figured if I a broke college student at the time could buy a pin a 40 something year old woman could too.

Is that a crime to impersonate a CM

I love the thrill of shoplifting, but I'm an honest gentleman at the core, who doesn't believe in taking what isn't rightfully mine.

So, what I do is casually walk up near the cash registers at shops which have the free park maps/brochures out front. I suspiciously look around at all CM's & fellow guests who may be present. I then proceed to snatch a map or two, then with great haste, I sprint outta said shop while laughing violently. Then once outside, I quickly turn & peek back in through the window at all the shocked / confused persons who just witnessed my deed, give them all a brief Dr. Evil glance, and scamper off.

And don't any of you DARE to call me a liar on any of this, or so help me, you may be somewhat correct. Mark my words!

I worked in retail for 7 years and can say that internal shrink(from mistakes not theft) is generally larger than theft when you employ as many people as Disney does... Say you are in retail and you accuse someone you have not seen put the item in their bag/pocket and have not had eyes on them the whole time sense, of stealing. They don't have that item anymore or never did? Do that 1 time okay, like others have said though do that 1,000 times or more a day which is what many people think makes sense you could and most likely would get a lawsuit... One lawsuit even if the retailer wins(or Disney) is much more expensive than any item the people might be stealing. Say nothing for the magic of seeing cast members all over the place hawking over customers and confronting others about stealing? How magical is that?

When I worked for a large retailer we did trials to see what worked best because theft was starting to get out of hand, and what we found out was the more money we threw at it(more dedicated employees, security devices, ect) did not make theft go down. What did make theft go down was employee engagement (contacting customers throughout the store) and trusting our customers. The more you trust adults the more adults act like adults. Disney is smart... They have done these studies too, and they feel that allowing the small amount of theft that occurs is worth not sacrificing the magic to stop it... As others have said, it's easy to assume the worst in people, Disney chooses not to :)

What would of made this even funnier is had you included someone that reported you for stealing said free item.

Sea world San Antonio, just a few years ago, during the closing show we saw some teens make off with a ton of stuffed penguins. The staff for whatever reason just wandered off from the gift shop at the end of the penguin conveyor line and the rest was history.

Have never noticed anything at WDW.

Oh yea? Well, I almost got away with the greatest trading pin heist. It was during the Halloween party and I dressed like a Disney HP CM. I went up to the one cart, told the CM they were needed back in the office and I was replacing them until they got back. I just started pushing the cart along and got all the way to the train station... be it my luck, the cart wheel got stuck in the track in the street... The worst part was, I ran out of pins by the time people were done buying them off the cart... I had so much money, I didn't know what to do... Luckily, the next day when I went back to the MK, the cart was still there, and they restocked the cart overnight... :jawdrop::hilarious:

You would think the exorbitant cost to vacation at Disney would help keep the trash away. On the other hand, when you hear of people who make very little income talk about getting back two figures in tax refund, there's your answer.

If there's one thing that I've finally learned in my 45+ years on God's green earth, it's that money very rarely buys class.
