When we were at Epcot the other day my husband saw a man come in and shoplift 2 of those t-shirts that are wrapped up tight in plastic in the shape of Mickey ears. It was during Illuminations so everyone was preoccupied and the guy ran in, threw 2 of the shirts in his bag and ran out. My husband was so shocked by it he just stood there dumbfounded for a minute and then told me what he saw. I was like, "um hello, why didn't you say something to the cashier!" He said by the time he realized what was going on the guy was long gone. But it continued to bother my husband for the rest of the night and he kept looking for the guy in all the different gift shops because he wanted to rat him out. He never did see him again.

Anyway, I was just wondering what kind of security they have in the gift shops. Do they have anyone watching TV monitors in a back room somewhere or something? Had my husband told the cashier what he saw would they have ever caught the guy? I was just curious. It seemed like it was really easy for the guy to get away with it.

Ironically, as we were walking out of the store talking about the guy shoplifting we looked down and realized that our toddler had taken a stuffed animal off the shelf when we weren't paying attention and he was playing with it in the stroller! So we quickly ran back into the store and put it back on the shelf. But that just confirmed to me that security isn't very tight in those shops.

Wow. You should have said something. If that can happen twice in one hour then they've GOT to change something. One time a few years ago I was in the Supermarket with my mom and I was holding a loaf of bread in my hand. When we got to the cash register I forgot it was in my hand and I didn't put it up, hence, it wan't paid for. I walked out with it in my hand not realising I still had it. No one noticed. My mom paid for it the next day after we noticed when we got home it wan't on the reciept :D . I hope you had a great time at WDW!

yeah no one is really watching on camera...its all about what guest and CM's see.

But this stuff in calculated into everything that is brought for the day and so forth. CM's there expect for stuff to go poof off the shelves.

Only night when it is out of hand I am told is night of joy. But I am sure if it gets really bad one day then extra measures will be taken. I like to think that Disney likes to trust its guest.

I saw a woman stuffing tshirts up under her robes last time i was there, a few of them actually, and one guy walk into the pin center at epcot, grab a pin and bolt. Its amazing. But i figured disney doesnt want to make a scene, so they get them away from it all

i saw 2 teenagers stealing from the store when you get off the star tours ride. 1 was pretending to look at stuff holding a shopping bag while the other put stuff in it. the were really obvious. i said to them did your mother teach you to steal? they looked at me and quickly headed for the door. when i told a cast member he thanked me but to my surprise said that there is nothing they can really do about it.

There's NOTHING they can do? Why couldn't they have dragged the teenagers back in the store and asked them to show their receipts?

Some of those stores, like World of Disney, are so crazy with people darting all over the place they must lose thousands of dollars in merchandise from shoplifters.

Call me crazy but...I wouldn't have the guts to shoplift anything from WDW or anywhere else.

Those people really have some big...well...you know. :lookaroun

"security guards in mouse suits will beat you senseless" - David Letterman in the pre-show to the old Monster Sound Show.

It wasn't about shoplifting, but the quote popped in my head and I got a good laugh out of it. :)

Unfortunately, yeah, I guess Disney can't do much about it. They could put more CMs in the stores but I think that would make guests uncomfortable shopping if they felt they were being watched all the time. I know I would hate it if a CM was following me and pretending to sort shelves.

Guess maybe they should consider putting more sensor tags on more items.

Awhile back, we we're on a school trip to Disney World and girl in from my school shoplifted from a store and they caught here and they got her real good. She couldn't come in the parks for the rest of the trip down there and other stuff Disney and my school did but I can't remember all the details.

You know you can blame the lack of maturity of a teenager who is shoplifting. If an adult steals, they really should know better because the cost of the items stolen causes the inventory shortage costs to be passed on to the consumer. That makes me so mad. What makes that person think they have the right to take whatever they want without paying? I am not like that, so I cannot understand it. Do you think he went back to his family and showed him what he bought them? If I see someone stealing at Disney, I am going to try to rat them out, too.

 Night of Joy? I thought that was for Christian youth to listen to Christian music; :fork: not steal from the MK. Perhaps the pastors/youth ministers need to get out the Good Book and remind their youth there are 10 Commandments; not 10 Recommendations for salvation!!!

That's what we were saying. My husband said the guy looked to be about 35 years old, so he was probably taking the stuff for his family. Who knows if they knew he was stealing it or if they thought he actually paid for it.

Stealing is one of those selfish acts that just makes me want to puke.

Yeah, I don't get it. Risk going to jail for a t-shirt, a very expensive t-shirt, but still a t-shirt. Some people are stupid.
