Having worked in Loss Prevention before I can tell you first hand that the store associate MUST see the theft take place and not lose sight of the individual at any moment until the person walks out of the store. A person can stuff their clothing full of merchandise and the store can really not do anything about it other than ask the person to return the merchandise and leave. The theft only occurs once you walk past all points of sale. A thief can catch on to the fact that they are being watched and can ditch the item very, very quickly. It only takes a second for them to get rid of the item and then you have a "bad stop" on your hands. That person can cause a world of hurt for you if you stop them for shoplifting and they have nothing. That is why a lot of theft goes unnoticed in stores. It can be difficult for a regular store employee to spot the theft, keep up with the thief, and still notify LP. Even if you had said something about it to the CM they couldn't have done anything other than approach the man to ask if he needed any help. The CM would only be able to make the man uncomfortable and to notify Security to eyeball the man for future theft.

I have never seen anyone shoplift at WDW. However, my little brother stole a map that was for sale at a shop at the KOA in Branson, MO, in the late 1990's.

Think for yourselfer
You would think the exorbitant cost to vacation at Disney would help keep the trash away. On the other hand, when you hear of people who make very little income talk about getting back two figures in tax refund, there's your answer.

Poor people. We really need to figure out a way to keep those low income types out of the parks.

The best two figures would be $99.
I wondered when someone would catch that. I meant 5 figures as in $10k or more in a tax refund when paying very little in taxes. It happens and the first thing they do is book a trip to Disney. You want to see the crowd levels and low-rent behavior decrease, change our progressive tax system.

We once saw a couple of teenage girls, I'd say around 15 or 16, wearing sweaters and would pretend to be looking through the pins and would flick it off the hook into their sleeve. My wife called them out on it to which they acted dumbfounded and placed a couple of them back before they ran out of the store.

Money doesn't necessarily classify someone as trashy and non-trashy. Plenty of people with money are shoplifters and rude people too, just look at a lot of celebrity stories on the news.

There's NOTHING they can do? Why couldn't they have dragged the teenagers back in the store and asked them to show their receipts?

Some of those stores, like World of Disney, are so crazy with people darting all over the place they must lose thousands of dollars in merchandise from shoplifters.

Shrink is just calculated into the sticker price of these goods. Hence the more people steal the more the rest of us have to pay. The cost is just passed along.

Theft costs everyone. Your on vacation so at least trip the person into something hard.

I have to admit, the only "shop" I can actually lift are those outdoor vending carts with ice cream, popcorn and the like.

I work out, but not that much.

I saw a woman stuffing tshirts up under her robes last time i was there, a few of them actually, and one guy walk into the pin center at epcot, grab a pin and bolt. Its amazing. But i figured disney doesnt want to make a scene, so they get them away from it all
But they will make a scene. Not only will law enforcement handle the matter, but the person is also banned from WDW for life
