She's Pregnant!

Ok - so my wife and I had planned on waiting until after our childless trip to Disney World to get pregnant. But, I am sure that many of you know how that goes. So, here we are - we have been planning our trip for months and our reservations are for May 17-25. We had originally planned to go commando style, doing all the parks including the water parks and Pleasure Island type stuff. but, she is having all that usual morning sickness and fatigue. We are not sure whether to cancel the trip entirely - or go and take it easy. Any thoughts?

Oh - and by the way, I have never been to Disney, hence the name.

How far along is she? I say go, but don't overdo things. Enjoy the trip without kids because it's a different ballgame with kids there.

And congratulations on the baby.

First of all: Congratulations!

I agree with SpongeScott...don't cancel your trip! Go, take it easy, and relax and have bunches of fun. If you are staying on property, it will be a piece of cake.

Thanks - I am really excited. She is about 5 weeks along, so this is all very new to us.

Don't cancel the trip!

Five weeks is very early and she should not have any trouble except dealing with the morning sickness. She should double check with her doctor just to make sure and he may have something for her to help if the morning sickness is very bad. Let her rest when needed, stay hydrated and small frequent meals would be the way to go. There are a few threads about taking a WDW trip while pregnant and a quick search should bring them up. I know DisneyPhD and a few others had some good tips.

Congratulations! Your life will never be your own again, but honestly, I wouldn't trade my kids for anything.

I would definitely say to go as well, HOWEVER before doing ANYTHING Like flying etc, check with your wife's OB-GYN to get his blessing on the trip. Having a doctors advice is always the best way to go!!! Congrats!!!!!! Belle

I have to agree with everyone else here--don't cancel the trip. My husband and I went in December when I was about 7 weeks pregnant. It was a different trip for us, with lots of breaks to rest and we had to take things slower than normal. However, being in Disney with morning sickness is still better than not being in Disney at all.

OK - I have 5 "goes" and no "stays." Looks like the "goes" have it. Thanks for all the advice. One other thing for you moms - is a 12 hour car ride too much?

Let's make it an even six. For every life situation, the parks seem to offer different things. When my wife and I go, it's less focused on the rides than the many shows, great meals and other adult entertainment.

You will definitely have to back off the guerilla approach, and may not want to do things like TOT, RnRC, the mountains and Dinosaur, but there is so much else. Especially being your first time, you can get a good lay of the land for future child and childless excursions.

As for the drive, just plan on stopping twice as much at least, take a little longer stops, walk around and such...figure on a 14 hour drive and don't try to push.

Do share your great news with CM's, at check in and when making PS at nicer restaurants if you are doing them. Many CM's like an excuse to make a fuss. You may also want to make some arrangements to have something special delivered to your room to make it a family to be celebration. Make it a trip all about your wife (you will need to get used to that!). Maybe make an afternoon res at GF Spa to give her a special pampering.

You won't have many opportunities for just you two for quite a while, so this is a great time to enjoy yourselves.

Oh, yes, CONGRATULATIONS! :sohappy:

Congratulations! We are expecting our 2nd in Oct. We had our tripped planned for Oct., but finding out she was pregnant, changed it to June. My wife will be 5 months in June, but we will still go and have fun. Just take it easy, and relax.

I went in 2003 while 4 months pregnant. We were able to do almost everything (except the more "thirlling" rides... no TT, RRC, TofT or Splash Mtn for me)... I needed to take a nap a few days... but it was a wonderful trip nonetheless. Go... go... go!

I went at about 3 or 4 weeks pregnant. I, however, did not know I was pregnant at the time. I found out RIGHT after we got home. I rode space mountain and a few other of the thrill rides. I was a bit queasy.....especially after the teacups, but I survived and enjoyed the trip. I also rode about 8 or 9 hours down there (from Biloxi MS). Think of this as your little one's first WDW trip! My daughter has always loved hearing about her trip while in my tummy (and she is now 16). Go, enjoy, and take lots of pictures to show your little one since he or she will not remember.

The drive for me (from Illinois) at seven weeks pregnant wasn't as bad as I feared. We split it up over two days and probably stopped more often than we normally would have. I definitely slept more in the car too than normal.
