Well, maybe they do and I haven't seen them yet. I would love for someone to point them out if they do. Otherwise, maybe we can get over the whole MM+ over budget nonsense.
So far as I know, no public news report has stated the actual cost of the project.

Like you, I'd like to see it public too. I doubt it'll ever be revealed publicly.

And for the record I thought 4 billion was a bit steep too.

You do realize that retail businesses have been doing this for years. Do you have a Kroger card? Best Buy rewards card? Both are "data mining" the information and using that information to drive increased sales.

Its also the reason why American retailers have resisted the chip and pin credit cards that you see Europeans and Canadians carrying. These cards encrypt the cards data so that they cannot link a purchase to a person as easily as they can now by asking you your phone number. MyMagic+ will become more important because Visa and MC have mandated that they will no longer accept liability for transactions on cards that do not have the chip after October 2015. This will make loyalty programs and tools like mymagic+ a lot more important in tracking customer behavior in the future.

My guess is that he actually is leaving voluntarily. Disney is still denying that NGE is over budget, and he isn't leaving until July. If he were being fired, it seems like they would have put a little effort into making him the fall guy.

I'll bet he sees the writing on the wall, knows he would have been made the fall guy for this in a few months (or whenever), and isn't giving them the chance.
In the senior corporate world, executives are nearly never fired for poor performance. Quite the opposite; most receive generous Golden Parachutes.

The July termination date is a face-saving move. Not for Franklin but for Iger and Rasulo.

It would send ripples through Wall Street if Franklin had been out-and-out fired, exploding in Iger/Rasulo's face (and on their stock options :greedy:).

Rest assured, Franklin is being terminated in a way those in the corner offices do when it's one of their own.

Correct, I haven't seen anything about the actual cost either. However, we have the news reports of the $1B budget and the executive statements about staying within budget. If they were well under the budget forecast, I'm sure they would be making that statement also. Based on the facts we have, my bet is they are running within budget or within their budget plus contingency funding.

You do realize corporate executives can face civil and criminal prosecution if they "lie" to investors.
Having closely followed Iger's and Rasulo's statements regarding MyMagic+, there is absolutely nothing out there publically that they can be accused of lying about that would open them up to legal proceedings, beyond the usual pep talk every senior executive is expected to spew forth on pretty much every corporate initiative, and which are well-protected by the law.

Every one of their statements is no different than something along the lines of "I think John Carter is a fabulous movie".

It doesn't mean that they are happy with MyMagic+'s financial performance.

I didn't say they had lied. In fact, I said there would be an issue if they were attempting to spread misinformation about massive budget overruns. The budget has been noted in public as $1B and the executives has said the project has remained in budget.

There's another company looking to bring Experience as a Service to the main stream. They've recently set up shop in Orlando if I'm remembering correctly. I wouldn't be surprised if he moved there or was head hunted.

Despite what you feel about MyMagic+ I have a very strong feeling everything is moving in that direction. Disney's just the first to jump in the deep end.

Barring felony convictions or illegal bookkeeping (See: Jim Lewis and friends at DVC, 2011), Disney execs are never fired. Without that level of illegal activity they are always allowed to live out their current executive contract, and it's quite obvious that Franklin's current contract runs through July.

Cynthia Harriss had a contract that ended in October, and after she ran Disneyland into the ground and racked up a couple of deaths on her watch, she was allowed to resign to "spend more time with family" at the end of her contract in October, '03.

I'm confident that Nick Franklin did not get his executive contract renewed. Part of that separation agreement would be a public announcement with a lengthy lead time like this 45 days before his departure, to give his tenure more credibility. This is a standard practice in the corporate world, of which Disney is not immune.

But rest assured Nick Franklin is now a dead man walking in TDO corridors and conference rooms.

And by not making Franklin the public "fall guy", Disney can still claim in quarterly earnings reports that they are "THRILLED!" with the way MyMagic+ is coming along in WDW. Everything is great! We love how it's been going! What problems?!?

I guess we were all wrong.

Nick Franklin could be joining Mariners

MINNEAPOLIS -- With the Mariners looking for offensive help, it appears the club may be ready to give young infield prospect Nick Franklin another shot. The infielder, however, might be playing a little outfield as well if he rejoins the team as expected on Tuesday in Texas.

Though the Mariners have made no official announcements, Franklin was pulled out of Triple-A Tacoma's lineup prior to the Rainiers' game on Sunday in Sacramento. And manager Lloyd McClendon indicated earlier in the day that he's talked with general manager Jack Zduriencik about Franklin's potential role with the team.

That's correct. And the only way you're going to get that released is for someone in a very sensitive area to leak that information out and that is ridiculously unlikely.

They will never admit to the NextGen fiasco. Doing so will only make Iger, Rasulo and Staggs look bad and they will never let that happen.

This isn't like John Carter where they can make everyone else to be the fall guy. That one they could pin on Cook and Stanton (and probably did so to get the Pixar directors to fall back in line).

I really don't get why people get so furious about this. Yes they were over budget according to most "inside" sources. Yes Disney got romanced by the promise of revenue that hasn't yet materialized (who knows......in time it may). Yes a high ranking executive probably took the fall for it. It's interesting, but I EXPECT Disney to looking at technology that is cutting edge. That's what big companies do. And now they will halt expansion to other sites until it proves an ROI. That's also what I expect, and why I own stock.

If people are still blaming MM for the parks not being clean enough or not building enough..........I still can't see evidence that connects the dots. No matter what appears on Miceage. They were losing ground on maintenance and expansion before MM was even started. At least at WDW.

Just a couple of posts up, you'll see that I referenced a NYT article about the $1B budget.
Brooks Barnes should be on the Disney payroll. His reporting of the 'facts' is nothing but PR spin.

And didn't the origianl budget start somewhere in the 600K range?

I love my magic band. I only think those that loved the old fast pass hate it. Magic Bands and my fast pass plus make it a level playing field and all customers are treated fairly. Everyone gets 3 fast passes to start. For those of us that enjoy a nice warm breakfast and not rushing to the park we are now allowed to get a fast pass for TSM which was impossible in the past.

I used the system in April and loved if. I know many customers who are extremely happy with it. The most vocal complainers are those who loved the old system because it gave them an advantage. Well WDW is for everyone not just those who go all the time and or know how to use the old system. The new technology will allow for greater attendance and eventually more attractions. I think in the long run the vast majority of people will love the new system and so will the stockholders. I am just tired of reading the same posters complaining about the new technology for the same reasons. THE NEW TECHNOLOGY DOES WORK AND IS WONDERFUL. MOST OF US LOVE IT NO MATTER WHAT A FEW OF YOU SAY. AND IT IS HERE TO STAY AND EVENTUALLY WILL BE USED AT ALL DISNEY PARKS.
