Before I am flamed I have nothing against people using the motorized carts that need them. Why does it have to be something that goes so fast it can knock you over before you have time to know what hit you?

I think one of the issues being discussed here is the flawed knowledge of the devices being discussed. Segways are controlled by computers and thus their top speed can be regulated internally by software. Thus the reason many cities in Canada have removed the ban of Segways on public roads, sidewalks, paths etc... The studies conducted have shown that Segways are no more dangerous than any other transportation device includign wheelchairs, ECV's, bikes, rollerblades, skateboads, etc...

Not to mention the people that use the carts that do not have a medical reason to do so.

People take advantage of everything today, and they will do so tomorrow as well. This is a poor excuse to stop progress just because a few idiots may take advantage of it. Some people take advantage and cheat the fastpass system, others do it to the carpool system, and on and on... should we get rid of all things simply because some abuse them. I think not.

We are #1.

We are the best Disney fansite on the net.

Why is that? Because the majority of our members tend to have an IQ that is higher than the Audio Animatronic figures we obsess over.

This has been some interesting reading. :lookaroun

By "interesting" I mean "weird". It's ok, par for the course and all... :lookaroun

I would be fine with the segways, if they 1) added at least a third wheel :lookaroun, and 2) slowed them down to maybe the average walking speed.

I still have to wonder, along with others who have pointed this out, what about parking them for rides? There are always strollers moved by CMs and other strollers stolen. What about when some one says, "My Segway is gone! Someone took it!" Will they have to rent them to prevent this from happening? Will they have to sign a waiver, releasing Disney from fault if their Segway is stolen? Will Disney provide a rack for them (bring your own lock)?

Segways right now are rich people toys. While some may use them for added mobility, I can't see where they could be a necessity. Personal dignity is a matter of personality and personal outlook. If you have no personal dignity, then no gadget will give you any.

Segway parking would be a logistical issue that would need to be addressed as any other ADA regulation is - IE. larger bathrooms, ramps etc...

Prior to ADA laws there were no ramps to get wheelchairs into buildings, bathroom fixtures were not spaced far enough apart, stalls were not big enough to accommodate the handicapped.

The fact is that as new inventions are developed to make life easier for people the way structures are built will also change to accommodate them. These same arguments were used against the original ADA legislation when it was passed, and none of them have amounted to much.

I am sure that someone made the following argument with the development of the gasoline engine. "Where will we get gasoline, there are only 2 stations in the entire state." ...

I believe that the parks are already compliant without any modification in regards to passages, walkways, etc.

The point is if you are handicapped Disney provides carts or wheelchairs for use. You don't need a Segway to run people over with. PERIOD!!

After reading Merfs post a few pages back about the OP just agruing to extend his thread.. I have to agree 100%. MTK..... is anyone allowed to disagree with you on ANYTHING? You seem to have the answers to all the questions and problems..... I beit all the wrong answers IMHO. When someone disagrees with you mkt.... it is only a disagreement not an arguement. This is a forum not a state or federal coutroom. And your replies to some posts in opposition of you opinion are bordering the rudeness you do not like yourself.
So IMHO, I say since arguing and rudness just show ones true colors....... the Audio-Animatronics have you beat .. again IMHO.

I read this as you insinuating that anyone with a Segway at the parks is automatically going to run over people, or did I misread it? I mean, all I need to run over someone at the park is a rental wheelchair, ECV, or stroller.

:)

The administrators already took appropriate action towards my behavior :) Alas, you're several hours late and a buck short.

Personally, I believe a persons true colors are revealed during periods of great duress or anguish (ie- tragedies). However, I am who I am... that I won't change. Because of this great journey called life, I have been molded into who I am, a person that says it like it is, but one that can be counted on when one needs me. But don't accuse me of automatically starting a fight when I disagree with someone- I do bite my tongue quite often when I disgree with something. You are allowed to disagree all you want, and if you really don't like my opinion, then block me.

A good healthy argument never hurts anyone, does it MKT? Truly, those who lack the ability to argue, lack the ability to concisely convey their point, IMHO. In the previous poster's post......:lookaroun....... he mentioned this not being a courtroom, an accurate statement. However, this is a public forum(also pointed out by thecheez) giving MKT, myself and whoever else, the right to argue our point. In most cases, if I am involved in an argument, I am not trying to see the other side of the ball. Doing so, in my mind, admits defeat, something I am not willing to do. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I hate you. As I generally take nothing personal out of a healthy argument, I would suggest others do the same. Too many people wear their feelings on their sleeves, this is an internet forum, these people are not family and friends(for the most part), so why get so bent out of shape when some internet Disney freak challenges your opinion on things.(I hold internet Disney freaks in the highest regard by the way, nothing personal meant.) This is happening more and more often on these boards. I do not contribute this fact to an increased level of rudeness or hostility, I contribute it to an increase in whining and sensitivity.*

*The above statement reflects only my personl opinion. No one should get bent out of shape, cry or hide in a corner do to the above statement.

I read the post, I felt it was insulting to those with disabilities, and quite frankly, MY opinion( or that of the other moderators) is the only one that counts, so I deleted it.
