Season Of Disney On Travel Channel

Let's hope Disney on a Dime is better than Disney Splurge.

This was only marginally better. I agree with a PP - if you do even the slightest amount of homework, you can do about everything covered on the show tonight.

And was it just me, or did the people staying in the cabins seem like they didn't get out a lot? They were just saying (or being told to say) some just really odd things, like how amazing buffets are and how they allow you to pick what you want, as much as you want. And then the one "expert" called buffets a counter service option. Huh?

They stayed at the Campground the entire time. They only left to ride in the boat and see the Magical Castle.

I think they also went to Typhoon Lagoon where they got amazing value out of their park hopper plus:rolleyes:

Is it my imagination or did the "Disney on a Dime" show not really meet up to our expectations? I figured it would be all about saving money at WDW. I'll watch anything related to Disney but I don't really think the title matched the show. I almost thought it would be based on the book with the same name.

I DVR'd Disney on a Dime. I have to say that I was disappointed. I actually turned it off when the Suarez family went to Trail's End and Christopher Elliott said "some of the counter service meals are actually all you can eat so you can really load up and you are not going to be hungry for the rest of the day." Of course, I eventually went back and watched the rest of it, and went back to Christopher Elliott's comment about 5 times to be sure that I heard him right.

Am I missing something? I had no idea that there was a counter service meal that was all you can eat. :hammer:

Yes, I noticed that too.  I liked that part only because staying at the cabin and going to Trail's End is what we'll be doing in June. Still, these specials are more geared toward the Disney novice, who doesn't typically prepare for something like this. In that, I thought they made a very good point of planning, doing your homework, finding a vacation that meets your own family's desires.
Although I did comment about the incorrect stroller price they gave. It was the little things like that that made me slightly :hammer:

I have mixed feelings about last night's special... I really liked all the shots of Pop Century :), but I was really disappointed with both the misinformation provided (stroller prices, etc) and the lack of new information - there wasn't anything I didn't already know!

Don't forget that you can get a boat and ride to look at the Magic Castle!

OMG!!! I looked at DH and said, did she really just say that? So we rewound it and listened again. Yup, Magic Castle.

Before I get flamed for making fun of a newbie, I get that the show was geared towards first time visitors, not those like us who know the parks like the backs of our hands. I just thought that comment was really funny.

And I caught the "counter service" comment at Trails End, too.

I thought it was better than last week's show, but still "meh" overall. Clearly geared towards people who have never been to Disney, or haven't been in 20 years or so. At one point it seemed like one big commercial for Fort Wilderness. And of course they had to mention "La Nouba" when the family went to Disney Quest. Can't have a Disney special without it!

Also, did anyone else think it was strange that 9 and 10 year old boys would rather play soccer at FW then go to the parks? Um, you can play soccer and ride bikes at home? If you were staying at least a week, I can see wanting down time like that. But their trip was only 3 or 4 nights! Weird.

Yeah, I wasn't really into that "Disney Splurge" special either. I feel like it focused on a lot of un-Disney aspects to Disney. I guess that was the point, but if I wanted to see 20 min of Nascar racing, I'd watch Nascar racing.

Did anyone else kind of dislike the people that the special focused on too? Maybe its just because I'm jealous of the money they were able to drop at Disney, but they all seemed a little pompous to me. The tour guide seems nice, but it felt like the equivilant of having the maid raise your kids for you. I just got a snotty vibe watching.

I especially loved how they interviewed Laurie Gelman. I know that not everyone knows who she is but she is the wife of Michael Gelman the Executive Producer of the Regis and Kelly show. I am sure that when the show travels to Disney World they "travel on a dime"! I am sure that they stay in the Wilderness cabins and feed their kids popcorn and Mickey cheese with grapes for breakfast. Did anyone else catch this? The Gelman' are people who rent islands to go on vacations and she is suddenly the expert on going to DW on a dime.:ROFLOL:

This show was OK because like we have discussed it is for people who are not as seasoned as we all are. I also found myself saying to my hubby that this show is about what DISNEY wants you to think you can get for a discounted DISNEY rate. Just because the offer MYW packages doesnt mean that is the cheapest way to travel.

It did get our excitement up a notch because we are leaving in 2 days so we are counting down the hours now:sohappy:.

So true! I also couldn't believe how she went on and on about having the kids pick ONE souvenir or the parents biting their nails while JR. decided btwn. a $2 lollipop or a princess dress!! I'm so sure that's a choice her kids have had to make!:brick:

That was odd. I'd get it if it was an extra boat trip, or bike ride as part of an afternoon break before going back to the parks.

Didn't mind the goofs by the newbies so much, but maybe producers could have added a pop up "Trail's End is deemed table service for DDP" just for a little journalistic accuracy. I disliked this one more than Splurge, seemed even more like a Disney ad to me. No real tricks or tips for saving money, other than "don't buy every souvenir you see, just every other."

The short stays also bugged. I know a weekender is common, and longer stays are more expensive; it's the 4 nights=5 full days math. On arrival day, even if getting in at noon, IME I'm already a little tired by the time I check in, even if excited (can only imagine how kids would be). At most I am just looking around for a few hours at DTD (or catch a park closing if I have a MYW ticket to use or loose), casual dinner. On getaway day, I just don't feel like checking out/storing bags, spending a few hours at the park in 80 degree Florida sun, then getting on a plane. YMMV.

Disney on a Dime was okay, better than the splurge show, but I have to admit I cringed when the family from Fort Wilderness were traveling on the boat past River Country and the dad said it was a Pirates of the Caribbean thing!

i agree, i felt disney on a dime was more of a plug than money saving tips. i felt like it was often "here's how its worth the money!" rather than "heres how to save money!" like highlighting EE? thats not a money saver. talking about fastpass and park hoppers? not really saving money, rather than saying what you get for the money. also i loved how when describing the all star resorts the announcer says something along the lines "there MAY be hotels off property that MAY be cheaper... but THEY dont have a 3 story big wheel right outside!" haha well IM sold!

they were plugging FW a lot which was fine with me since ive never really explored it that much outside of what i saw on the way to hoop-de-do. it seems really nice, but i know that when i was younger, i was not more interested in riding a bike than going in the parks!

the babys were cute though...

I like the special because it gives people who chooses to not plan their vacations in advance to rely on WDW.com and/or Travel Channel.
