Say bye-bye to E-Ride Nights and Plaza Pavilion

Hopefully change is good

I liked the pizza and the salad and Tasha liked the breadsticks.
They, for some stupid reason, got rid of the breadsticks over the last year, so I'm not sure what to think...maybe I'll find a new favorite food there?!?
I'm not sure what noodles has to do with healthy food...Disney has tried to introduce heathier food on several occasions, but found that people want what they want and feel comfortable eating, so things like turkey burgers failed. As far as variety goes, WDW offers the greatest variety of food anywhere. And even though the MK probably offers the most common foods of all the parks, they still have a nice variety to choose from between Tony's (Italian), the Crystal Palace (wonderful buffet of unusual foods), Liberty Inn (standard american meal), Plaza (sandwiches), Plaza Pavilion (pizza), Cosmic Rays (soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers), Peco's Bills and Pinocchios' (burgers), Columbia Harbour House (chicken), the castle (steak), turkey (yak/emu) legs, El Pirata (Mexican) and the egg roll cart in Adventureland.

On my first trips in the late Eighties I recal them serving pasta and remember ejoying spagetti and meatballs on a sunny day looking at the castle.

I thought I was the only person that remembered that! Not only did they serve spagetti and meatball dinners, they had excellent meatball grinders as well, and I'm super fussy about eating 'Italian' out. I seem to recall this lasted only one year, maybe two. But, after they took it off the menu, I think I've only eaten there once or twice since.

Thanks for jogging my memory...

I, for one, support getting rid of the e-ride nights (although i'm not too much of a fan of the EMH evenings). Now that attendance is back to pre-2001 levels, its time to start leaving the MK open till Midnight again for everyone during the summer rather than those 10 PM closings we saw this year.

I've never been a fan of e-ride nights cuz I remember when the parks were open til 1am in the summer. I have this psycho thing about paying extra for something I used to get for free (gate price). Friends of mine love e-ride nights and managed to convince me to do one last summer. It was great being there after the park closes but I still don't think it's worth the extra money unless you have a very short vacation and want to cram as much as possible into your time.

It is sad, when I was a kid back in the 1970s we would be out so late at the MK that we would not get back to the Polynesian until after 2:00 am. The park closed sometime around 1:00 as you say and the monorials would run another 2 hours. I miss that so much, the parks are best a night.

Annual Pass Renewals - Exchange Certificates

As of 12.29.04 -- If any of you have the green pass renewal exchange certificates (if you ordered your annual passes via mail), no where on Disney grounds will be able to give you your pass because the computer systems were down due to "high visitor volume." My g/f and I went to Guest Relations @ Epcot today (12.29.04) to exchange these for our new passes and the CM there said that he couldn't do it. So instead, what he said they're doing at the turnstiles for all the parks is they're stamping them with a date. This is temporary. The CMs have said to check back tomorrow 12.30.04 and try the exchange then.

Exactly..the summer hour cutbacks over the past few years have been drastic and e-ride nights just give them another excuse to shut the park and let a select few "pay to play".

E-ride nights were likely a marketing tool used to show the value of staying on-property. The Orlando hotel market was doing some drastic discounting the last few years (much more so that WDW was doing) and by giving on-property guests this added perk, they could gain more market share, while at the same time, break-even in the parks.

Now that the hotel market is rebounding, such a marketing tool would not be needed.

In the frozen isle of your local grocery store under "microwaveable pizza"
I actually find pizza from fast food restaurants to be much greasier than that of the microwaveable kind. Pizza Hut is probably the worst when it comes to grease...thin crusts (especially with pepperoni) are pretty much nothing but a pool of grease. Of course, my sister loves pepperoni thin crust so that's the kind we get ALL the time :hurl:

Have you tried the fare at Pizzafari? They are not greasy, but they are surprisingly nice for mass-produced pizza.
Ya know, I can't remember...I've either tried it and not liked it, or I smelled it while walking past and never tried it....either way, it smells terrible. MAYBE I'll give it a try on my next trip, seeing as I'm not too keen on much of the other food offered in AK.

The name of the restaurant was Adventureland Veranda. They served Sweet and Sour Hot Dog, Shrimp Fried Rice, Egg Roll and a Teriyaki Burger. It closed in
1993 but reopened for a short time in 1998 with the usual MK hamburger/hot dog menu. You can go to Widen Your World to see pictures and more info!!

Thank you so much!! I know that they occasionally open the place for events such as MNSSHP and MVMCP. I'll check out that website.

It was open for MVMCP for picture taking or something.....I only went in to see the former restaurant.

Adventureland Verandah was sponsored by Kikkoman (most food stands were once sponsored)

But what does Asian cuisine have to do with Tomorrowland?... I'm still puzzled about Asian food in Tomorrowland.

Well, who's saying they won't have Asian food and noodles in the future? :animwink:

If you look at it that way, burgers, chicken, fries, and pizza probably don't have much to do with the future either. We'll all be eating gooey sludge from a spicket. Welcome to the Matrix! ;)

Two tid bits of information that I found today while browsing My Disney Team, the WDC portal.

E-Ride Nights are being phased out. In fact, the portal says "None" for E-Rides for the month of January and doesn't even mention February, although the park hours for both months are up. According to an FAQ on the Magic Your Way program, "E-Ride nights will be phased out." (This was part of an answer to a question about special tickets and E-Ride Nights.) While this probably isn't a complete surprise due to the introduction of Extra Magic Hours Evenings, it will still be interesting to see how it plays out...

Today, we got a brochure left in the room in regards to this. Extra Magic Hours Evenings starts on Jan 2, 2005.

And with the Pizza Pavilion? I guess that's the reason why it was sooooo busy in there today because everyone wanted their greasy pizza fix. As for me, I'll wait what happens when the "Tomorrowland Terrace" opens. :)

See, I was under the impression that this was a marketing tool. If you're trying to decide whether or not to stay on-property, the idea that you can stay in a park 3 hours later than people NOT staying on property could be a great incentive.

Of course, with the amount of hotel rooms Disney has, I wouldn't be surprised if over 75% of park guests on any given day is also staying on property (anyone know what the percentage tends to be, or where to find it?).

WDW has about 23K in rooms.....I dont think it is that high, but it is a considerable number....

Orlando has 115K rooms.......I would only assume that some of THOSE people would be at WDW each day.

I'm going to miss the Plaza Pavilion. I ate there frequently. Even though the food I ate was pretty much the same stuff I eat at Cosmic Ray's.

The brownies were gross though, I won't miss those. I like Asian fare though so I welcome the change. I just hope that the asian fare here is BETTER than the stir-fry noodles at ABC Commissary.
