Who knows. I can fully understand not going back to the original format, but a dinner show would have them using dump trucks to make bank deposits.

I've often thought the AC, perhaps a Murder Mystery dinner show, and one "nightclub" at PI, even open on a limited basis, would be a gold mine for Disney. :dazzle:

The format I liked was to simply do the two show a night format like at Hoop, but have the bar open for a couple of hours past the last show for the 21 and up crowd.

That would have worked for both locales I saw suggested. And would have the potential to draw in the family crowd as well. Most the pity....:(

Master Gracey,

Any insight on why all 8 members of the Club assembled this morning?

Thanks

Actually I just found out about this myself and I share in Lee's

Say what now?!?!

I am now going to go find out what I can about this, but it proves that Adventure is still out there!

Drip, Drip, Drip...This is chinese water torture!! Or waterboarding or something!! Why the Dickens would you keep authorizing the use of props, characters and paraphenalia of a franchise you are trying to kill?? Doesn't ANYONE at TDO have the good sense to lock all this stuff up or destroy it so it can't be used?? OR..perhaps they WANT to keep the buzz going....perhaps this is part of a Machiavellian plan to raise our interest to a fever pitch so when the moment is right... :lookaroun

Why on earth would you want a "family crowd" in the Adventurers Club??? In any case, I'll reiterate, (1) bars are always more profitable than restaurants--especially limited seating dinner shows (higher margins, less staff), and (2) the Club was a cocktail party, not a dinner party--a dinner show would be cheesy (like Hoop!), elminating the improv comedy that made the Club great.

They sell Horizons T-shirts, too. If its easy to sell and people want to buy it, Disney will offer it. Don't bother looking for ulterior motives when the profit motive is in play.

It just dosnt m,ake sense anymore. If they opened the club back up they would have lines clear to the west side. They keep pulling these limited, exclusive engagements and clearly these charecters are popular. To us hard core fans it is brutal. You have this unoccupied area....a great concept and pfffft nothing. It has gone way beyond arrogance and ignorance...maybe beyond stupid.

Just mind boggleing!

You're kind of making some assuptions here. The club has been closed for 3 years now and people are still flocking to Downtown Disney and the closing of The AC hasn't made anyone blick an eye as far as I can see. While I feel for the people missing the club, it's apparent that life goes on without the club. I just wish they would either open it or bulldoze it of make it into a hamburger joint and be done with it.

Assumptions? They drag the charecters out every so often to tease those of us who are big fans, And are you not reinforceing my point.... The number of people visiting DTD has little to do with why or why not PI has continued to sit to rot. I wont go into the reasons.....they have been discussed at nauseum.
The fact remains that AC had a huge following and was very popular. If it didnt why would Disney continue to bring the cast together on several occasions?

Whatever is done with PI it would just make sense to incorporate a reincarnation of AC in some form or fashion. I guess where my assumption is .....is that TDO isnt going to do this. But given the fact that nothing is being done with PI, at this point any assumption is legit.

My opinion is that PI was a entertainment district. Why not keep that? Honestly....do we really need more food and shopping options at DTD? Some feel Boardwalk should be the the entertainment center of nightlife. If that is going to be the case then fine,,,,,put some new offerings there and market as such...but that is also a whole different conversation that has been beat to death.

Here is where I have a problem with some in the fan group that aggressively campaigns for the return of the clooob. If I thought for a moment that Disney was teasing, ridiculing, or otherwise jerking my chain by periodically dusting off the characters, I would be so hacked off, I would want to have nothing else to do with the organization.

I look at this one of two ways:

1. Disney is doing exactly as you said above, and someone somewhere is just laughing their little heart out because they are getting a few people (in the grand scheme of things) riled up.

2. Disney is approaching this just as any other set of characters that are only popular with a small group of guests. They bring them out on special occasions.

I personally think its number 2.

OK...I have an idea I want to pitch. If you have read my posts before you know that I'm a HUGE fan of the AC. Additionally I feel it's revenue potential was truly untapped, and that TDO showed an amazing lack of imagination as far as milking methods for this potential cash cow.

I have said before that the huge revenue would be generated by re-opening the club with the addition of a dinner theater and a large but VERY quirky gift shop (think or the Spencer's chain in your local mall but bigger and featuring AC themed stuff). But I had one more thought.

They need to produce an Adventurer's club movie, and time the club re-opening to coincide with the movie release. My idea would be to make it a parody of every adventure film ever made. Like Mel Brooks did to Frankenstein, they could RUIN Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes, Allan Quatermain etc.

This could be done with a series of adventures leading to some great discovery. The adventurer's would use the club as their base. Filming of the club scenes could be done in the club, causing fans created by this movie to want to see the place.

They could get top stars to take the roles of club characters for the film. Could you see Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp as Hathaway Browne? Or perhaps Julia Roberts as Samantha Sterling? You get the idea.

They have tried films before based on attractions. Pirates was wildly successful, Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion were very forgettable. But with the right script, direction, and stars, it could turn AC into a blockbuster franchise.

I dont disagree with you, although it dosnt make me feel much better. I also agree with the idea of making a movie out of the AC concept. That could be really cool. Right script....right actors. Not bad.

The people want Pleasure Island clubs but I don't see them offering it.

Why I stressed "easy." Mocking up a new T-shirt when you create dozens each year or getting a few CMs out on a Thursday morning, that's relatively easy. Bringing buildings back up to code, retraining bartenders/door hosts/managers, coming up with a marketing plan that doesn't make you look like complete idiots for closing PI in the first place...that's difficult. I think it would be profitable, but it's not an easy profit.

Sure, the first night they would. I'd even wager there would be lines the first month. But reality check: the AdvClub was never even the most popular venue on PI until its final week of existence. It only works in the context of a nightlife district, and that district needs to be kept fresh and exciting. I think it's well known I'm no Disney mark, but I do want to keep the discussion honest.

Bringing buildings back up to code,(shouldn't be too difficult) retraining bartenders(good bartenders don't need retraining)/door hosts(such a difficult job)/managers(there's certainly no shortage of those around!), coming up with a marketing plan that doesn't make you look like complete idiots for closing PI in the first place...that's difficult(Now THAT"S a formidable task!). There's only one reason for not bringing the club back, and that's saving face.

Once again, I agree absolutely. I think you hit the nail on the head.....They need an excellent marketing plan, This was the problem with PI and its closeing to begin with. Early on TDO marketed PI as an exclusive adult entertainment offering. They took down the turnstyles and dropped the marketing....thus lower attendence....result, PI closeing. As I have mentioned in another thread I see similarities on a much larger scale with what is going on with EPCOT.
