Parking GARAGE @ DTD?

IF  they decided to build a parking garage @ DTD based upon increased parking trip counts the actual construction area & length of time to construct the garage would create parking problems! Duckberg :brick:

Not building it will only delay the problem however. Short term pain, long term gain. They could also build in a way that has the least impact such as starting with an employee only garage in the far reaches of the most unused portions of the lot or on a plot of land that is currently unused.

If they want to make DTD all it can be they will need more parking sooner or later.

If they truely wanted to make DTD all it could be, they would've never closed PI just to leave the buildings empty for over two years.

However, the suggestion for a parking garage is slightly off base. There are very few times when parking is completely taken at DTD. Many forget there's still additional parking back by the House of Blues. Yes, its a 10 minute walk to the marketplace, but thats about the same time it would take to weave in and out of a parking garage, then walk down the escalators just to get there.

The only, legitimate, times when DTD has parking issues are during the high volume holidays. Other than that, parking is still relatively easy to come by. I'm at DTD at least two-three times a week, and never have an issue finding parking. Investing in a parking garage that may or may not be needed during three weeks of the year (when attendance is high) is irresponsible and stupid from a financial standpoint.

Parking Garage = not going to happen.

Again this assumes the scope of what PI will develop into and what new retail areas will be added. For example, just adding a ESPNZone could very well take up what current parking remains on many nights. So...

Parking Garage will happen sooner or later. No doubt about it.

Let's see what gets added to PI first, and when......

I'd be willing to bet that it won't. You need to take off those rose colored glasses.

yeah I highly doubt disney is interested in building a parking structure. They want you to stay on property and not need parking at the parks.

I'm just going by the fact more and more of them are popping up on property. I can think of at least 4 areas that utilize them. I'd call that a trend.

Well, DtD is Disney's way of pulling in the locals, but at the same time I don't think the demand for parking has overwhelmed the existing supply. I've been there on Saturdays, in the summer and during the holidays and have always found a spot with little effort. Now, if TDO does actually decide to invest heavily in PI then maybe that demand climbs to the level of a parking garage becoming necessary.

The save pleasure island website is reporting a rumor that not even the 1st contract has been signed for anything new at pleasure island. So that means nothing is coming anytime soon. I see no need for a parking garage anytime in the next 5 years.

Old news...... but I doubt the information is 'informed' anyway.. probably just an educated guess based on the fact that there is now activity at the buildings....

From what I have been told, Comedy Warehouse will have a new tenant announced within the next 10-12 weeks.... I have no idea who it is.

Disney closed the 5 clubs out there a couple years ago.. some have been replaced, but there are a few that still need final demolition and/or replacing...

The rest of Downtown Disney is very much intact and thriving... Trust me.. it's fine.... thriving, guests everywhere, great dining, great atmosphere, etc , etc...

Some people would have you believe that the area is as vacant as the dark side of the moon, but that simply isn't true...

Yep that was you. Maybe if you read Save pleasure island blog you would have known the status of the clubs. He seems way more informed than you.:ROFLOL:

Sorry JT, but you have a terrible track record. You spoke about a "great vision" Disney had for PI, and two years later, it's still empty. You lose. There will be no parking garage. more land will be cleared before that happens, if, and when they deem it necessary.

Second of all, you are making a HUGE assumption that in the next two years, PI turns out to be this amazing, crowd getting, place. What we have seen, lately, is that new additions to DTD typically canabalize other establishments there - they dont bring in additional people, therefore there will be no need for increased parking. Again, there's 100's (if not, close to a 1000) parking spots near the HOB that go unutilized daily. Those need to be touched first before a parking garage is relevant.

i recanted that statement just a few posts later..

apparently you have some sort of issue with me because I don't end every post with KUNGALOOSH!.... I didn't say I was happy that disney closed the clubs... but at this point, the ship has sailed, thats all..

I know the EXACT status of the clubs..

Motion : currently used for private events, but not in it's previous configuration. equipment removed, denoted to local organization around the orlando area

Adventurers Club: Cannibalized for it's interior items, (d street), etc.. dead, gone.. but not forgotten by the faithful (KUNGALOOSH!)

8Trax: Dead, gone, mothballed

Comedy Warehouse: Same

Soundstage: equipment removed, denoted to local organization around the orlando area

..... What does this prove? nothing.. it proves that I know the status of the clubs, just like you.. just like everyone else...

In other words, don't judge me.. you don't know me... You can hide behind your little keyboard an lob insults all-you-want... Won't make the clubs come back...

Now go cry into your pile of napkins you bought from Mouse surplus on ebay, with the Pleasure Island logo on them...

To everyone:

Why does this have to be a fight? The clubs are closed, it sucks, I get it.. I was just trying to discuss what IS going on... All anyone seems to want to do is demonstrate a defeatist attitude about the future of DTD.... DTD is thriving without the clubs.. That doesn't prove disney was right to close them, but it does prove that closing them won't suck DTD into the 9th circle of hell..

DTD is thriving without the clubs.

That is hardly the case. We can blame the economy in general for part of it and the closure of the Virgin store for part of it. But the largest drop in revenue has come from the lack "alcohol revenue" from the PI clubs. That was huge amounts of money that has not been replaced. You can't say DTD is thriving when you have that huge gash right in the middle of it.

They could solve the "alcohol revenue" issue by offering buy one, get one free deals on Guinness pints at Raglan Road......

So you knew that status of the clubs yet you posted this "some have been replaced, but there are a few that still need final demolition and/or replacing..."
Lets keep to the facts if you know them, thats the issue I take with you. Yes clubs are closed and they arent reopening but can you atleast stop distorting facts for people who ask an honest question.

Then you go and make an off the cuff statement about SPI Blog not being informed when you have stated incorrect information just in the past couple of days. Then you go and state in your most recent post that you knew the EXACT status of the clubs! Whats with that, why were you making stuff up then?

That person asked an honest question and you gave him a bad answer and you don't expect someone here to take issue with that? This isn't about clubs open or closed its about not giving an honest answer that I take issue with.

I have never said this before but according to you I should. KUNGALOOSH, I think I spelled that right.

Yes
umm Motion is still operational including sound and lighting in club format. As far as I know the only things removed were the TV screens inside the club at the entrance.

BET's lighting went to EPCOT I thought.

There are auditions for DJ/VJ in Motion on 4/22. Anyone have info on what this might be for? It is not yet posted on disneyauditions.com
