It's no longer in danger... It is going. Steve just posted the announcement with a link on the main page. So it wasn't "saved". :p

it's official, AE is going. Best news I heard all day. I hope they do away with the harnesses that constrict you. I have only been on AE once and hated it. I am so glad to see it go.

I like AE. It's better than Mission to Mars or Mission to the Moon were. Having said that, I'd like to see what they'd do with Stitch.

You know, I liked AE. Kinda scared the other people I would ride it with, because they would think "We're at a kid park..."

The only problems I've heard about the ride was that it's a pain to load/unload. Not everyone expects harnesses for a theater show, mind.

It's not like there's a sub bay, or a giant rotating theater, or a spare circlevision theater that they could put Stitch in, oh no...

EDIT: Really, guys, it's kinda depressing. I liked AE, for it's originality. It's almost up there with PotC and HM, just the way it tells a story by using characters you see there for the first time. It's unlike any other experience at WDW. I say, if they want to let another character into Tomorrowland, put him in with Timekeeper, or make a sub ride, or (gasp) think of something new and original. It doesn't have to be a grandious spectacular, just something unique that doesn't destroy any attractions. 10 Million is a lot for an upgrade to a show, so why not put a Stitch ride in at MGM, and give MK some breathing room? Better still, why not use the 10 million and make some new stuff at AK? The point I'm trying to make is, why destroy a good attraction, one that pulls in people still, for this? Didn't they learn from 20K, Living Seas, CoP, Timekeeper, etc?????

Hey I have an idea- did anyone ever think about George Lucas? He helped design that attraction...I wonder what he would think if he went to Disney in 2004 and saw a cute little blue puff inside his purposely terrifying attraction. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't AE desgined to be terrifying? If memory serves me, they had to do revisions on the original because it was TOO scary...sometimes I wish Disney would design something and then leave it alone...........:brick: :brick:

I love Alien Encounter, but everyone has to realize what this new show will probably be about. It is not going to be about the cute, cudely alien in Hawaii! No, it will probably be about the evil, horrible monster that a mad scientist created.

By the way, to everyone who thinks Alien Encounter is scary, it is horrifying the first time, but then, every other time, you can see the humor in the attraction. The very dry, hidden jokes and the terror that everyone else screams out makes it a very interesting and comical attraction.

Hard to say about this one. I am not going to make any opinions till I see the new version next year, but the attracton was getting kinda old. I mean, its scary the first time, but after a few shows, you get used to it, and then its just you sitting in the dark for a while. It seems like an attraction that could be updated easily and althoug is a good attraction once or twice, it is a good thing to keep updating it.

However...

As noted in many of these posts, it is sad to see Disney yet again taking an attraction and sticking a Disney character in it. If they were to do something with stitch, I would rather see them gut the entire attraction and start from scratch. I am just afraid that it will open again as AE with stitch in it, and not much else. If they DO do that, I would at least hope they add more effects to surprise the audience.

We'll just have to wait and see...

Stitch wasn't really made to be a cute little alien. He was nasty and mean. It wasn't until he got to Earth and Lilo's love for him that he began to leave his evil side.

And this ride shouldn't take place on Earth, since Tomorrowland is not set here...so it will probably (hopefully) still be scary.

I seriously doubt it'll be as scary. Just picture the family entering Tomorrowland and the kids reading the sign "ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter starring Stitch".
"Daddy, I wanna go!!!!"
"No, son, it says terror there, it's gonna be scary."
"No it won't, it has Stitch in it, he's good, I saw the movie!!!!"

Get my drift?

Scary as what? Alien encounter? The only people I know who thought AE was scary were little kids (who were so terrified they shouldn't have been there in the first place) and, well, I won't go there.

None of the older teens or adults I have been on the ride with thought it was scary. Funny, yes.

I don't care whether the new ride is as scary. I'm hoping it's ENTERTAINING. That will be a pleasant change.

Well, maybe whoever you were with didn't care to get "inside" the attraction. A friend of mine, after feeling the alien for the first time, couldn't open her eyes or move, so terrified she was. ANd I bet there are many people here who can share similar stories.

Bottom line, yes, AE is an entertaining attraction. And after this rehab, it'll be the SAME attraction but with Stitch doing stuff instead of the alien and TONS more kids crying in there because they're scared, Stitch or no Stitch.

I miss the old Disney days, when it was good to venture into something new. Disney has been going downhill ever since they toned down Snow White's SCARY Adventures and PCd Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise. *sighs*
