The other day, I had an argument with a friend, and it went along the lines of what's happening in this topic.
My favorite movies are Being John Malcovich, The Royal Tenenbaums, Punch-Drunk Love, etc (in laymens terms, not what you'd call very big moneymakers at the box office, because they serve a diffrent, non-traditional audience).
My friend, on the other hand, likes James Bond, Star Trek, Rocky, etc. (in other words, proven, successful franchises).
Now, I said that my favorite movies were fufiling a niche that is oft-overlooked. His movies are made to be blockbusters.
That's how I see AE as. It's not meant to push merchendise, films, television programs, and what have you. It's something that people either like or don't like. And those people who like it like it because it's original.
I can't help but think that, if changed, it will only serve to fuel Stich-related sales. There's a time and a place for that, and it's not AE's show building.
I seriously hope Disney re-thinks this through.
