Rumors from Chip & Co.com

I believe I've read on here that at the Poly, a refurb would be done one building at a time.

Not a fan of the POR news. I think some families would be naturally inclined to choose the AOA resort, especially if their children are a little older - from what I've heard (as I have never stayed at POR), that trundle bed isn't the biggest or most comfortable.

A bit of etymology for the OP's edification.

Humdinger
- 1905, Amer.Eng., originally used of beautiful women; probably from dinger, early 19c. slang word for anything superlative.

Ding
- 1819, "to sound as metal when struck," possibly abstracted from ding-dong, of imitative origin. The verb meaning "to deal heavy blows" is c.1300, probably from O.N. dengja "to hammer," perhaps imitative. Meaning "dent" is 1960s. Dinger "something superlative" (e.g. humdinger) is from 1809, Amer.Eng. Ding-a-ling "one who is crazy" is 1935, from notion of hearing bells in the head.

There was another thread aboat this and in there it said that they will need to taket the building down totaly and rebuild. That this would be the easier way to go instead of tring to reburb.
Not that I'm a pessimist or anything, but what would you like to bet that if there is a complete teardown and rebuild the new rooms wouldn't be the same extra large size as the originals? It would be nice though if they put the sinks, or a sink outside the bathroom, just sayin'.:D

Very good point...why get get a few more rooms and make some more $$$$. This is one resort we have not stayed at yet. And the the biggest reason why is beacause of the the beds....lack of King size beds. But I have made a deal with DH and we may get there some day!!!

I can't see them closing Poly. As most have said, it's one of the most popular and is a original. Not to mention that would leave a HUGE hole in what some may call the "heart" of disney.

They are redoing the POFQ rooms and putting in queen beds vs the doubles that are in now, so maybe that's what they plan to do with POR. And with queen beds that would probably leave no room for the trundle - which looks extremely small and uncomfy to me! So then POR would have a max guest room cap at 4 ppl like FQ does.

Happy travels,

DD

Of all the rumors you posted the only one I highly doubt is the Poly closing. It's a HUGE moneymaker for WDW, plus they have refurbed over the years and why would they waste that kind of money if it was going to eventually be closed?

The other ones, possible. We'll just have to wait and see.......

The trundle at POR is pretty small and couldn't possibly work for an adult. My 6 year old thought it was neat, but evey he wasn't comfortable. If the AoA family suites don't cost too much more than a POR room, the result would probably be much happier parties of five.

Amongst everything else - who`d pay?

Agreed. WoC is too expensive a production, I think, to give it away for free. Now if you made the show mostly visible from the central part of DtD, maybe the island part, and charged admission to that part of DtD that could see the show well, and maybe added a few clubs or something, you might have something. :lookaroun

I hadn't heard they were putting in queen beds. That is a great change. Now maybe I can stay there again someday.

Hello, kids. Sorry it is so late but I have one humdinger of a rumor.

Wait. I don’t actually know what a humdinger is. Nevermind. This is huge, that’s all you need to know. We’re hearing a couple of shocking rumors about Disney resorts.

One, we’ve heard that Disney resort managers are being told that when the Art of Animation Resort opens next year late Spring/early summer 2012, Port Orleans Riverside will no longer accept groups of five. Instead, groups of five will have to book a deluxe resort or stay at one of the Animation Suites.

Next, we’re hearing that when the Animation Suites open, the entire Polynesian Resort will be closed. That’s right, I said closed. Something about asbestos and getting rid of it. Managers have been told that Saratoga Springs and Old Key West, resorts that rarely reach capacity, will handle those guests. We’ve heard that Downtown Disney is getting a new fireworks show to make this move more attractive for Saratoga Springs visitors.

Could it be true? I’m not exactly loving these rumors, but you have to admit they’re pretty delicious.

This doesn't surprise me, although I've heard through the years it's loaded with mold. Primarily the reason we don't stay there. I think it would be great if they re-built.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the place was loaded with mold - the entire resort has an awful funk to it and is the primary reason I refuse to stay there (the completely kitschy theme being a close second).

It does have an odd stench doesn't it (almost like dirty socks)?

World of Color, in its existing setup, needs more than just a man-made body of water, even Seven Seas Lagoon is man-made. The show's equipment needs a body that is totally artificial, isolated from other water sources with a solid lining and a filtration system.

Exactly! What he said!

Talking with people at the Polynesian, they say the rumor is false. They are not closing the whole resort and as far as they are concerned none of the longhouses are being torn down. I don’t believe the reports of asbestos in the rooms since they gutted the rooms in 2002 (as seen in the photo below) and removed everything even the floors. They would have had to put asbestos back into the rooms in 2002 for there to be a problem that needed to be removed now.

The only possible thing that I have heard is that the GCH has some major issues and might need to come down. They are trying to figure out the logistics of doing that and where to move the check-in and open up places like the old Tangaroa Terrace to serve food.

Also any rumors of DVC I am told are completely untrue. Disney decided years ago that there was not enough property at the resort to build DVC and taking out buildings to build bigger DVC rooms was not desirable.

Tikiman did say that GCH has major issues though and could be subject to demolition.

I love everything about the Poly, even its unique smell. (I mean the smell of the GCH - artificial waterfall and flowers. Maybe you are referring to a different funky smell.) I never got to stay on property as a kid, and staying at the Polynesian as an adult was a huge treat - the closest I have felt to the "original" WDW. All I can hope is that if part of it or all of it is demolished for some kind of safety reasons, then it will come back again... you guys aren't saying the Poly is going away forever??
