All I know is that when we went back in 08 we rode the monorail and when we got to Poly I looked out the window and all I saw was rotting wood all over the place. So an extended shutdown to do alot of rebuilding would be a good thing. Just from what I saw. And if there is asbestos all through it I wouldnt want to stay there while they ripped it out. Just shut it down and do the job right.

Well, and maybe the rumor was partly true. It's believable that it's just a refurb due to the age of the building and not related to some health hazard like asbestos.

Where exactly was this rotting wood? I've stayed there twice in the past two years and I didn't notice rotting wood all over the place. Perhaps it's been replaced since then.

Agreed. WoC is too expensive a production, I think, to give it away for free. Now if you made the show mostly visible from the central part of DtD, maybe the island part, and charged admission to that part of DtD that could see the show well, and maybe added a few clubs or something, you might have something. :lookaroun
What a great idea! You would think they would have thought of that before! :hammer:

Hey Guys and Gals Chip here…
I am please to report that that no good Anonymouse has had her computer taken away for spreading incorrect and outlandish rumors! On behalf of myself and the staff at C&C we apologize for providing you with incorrect information. She thought she had a reliable source for this rumor but like anything till Disney makes an announcement it is just a RUMOR.

I've always liked the smell of he GCH. Like the previous poster mentioned, its the water from the waterfall that has a chlorine-ish smell mixed with the flowers. Then again I also think the Contemporary has always had a specific smell that I can't place, but not an unpleasant one. Probably all the food in the Grand Concourse mixing.

Disney's Polynesian has a cult-like following more than any other Disney Resort. If this was true, the backlash would be huge I think.

I can’t dispute what you saw because I would think that you would only make truthful statements but I would be surprised if anyone found rotting wood in very many places. I keep track of as much of the construction as I can at the resort and every piece of visible wood at the resort has been replaced in the last 5 years (exterior of all longhouses, stairways, exterior of the GCH, etc). I have witnessed this replacement myself. The fact is that the Polynesian has had just about everything replaced in the last 10 years and most of it in the last 4. They have even repaved the walkways and pool decks. There is very little that is “original” and most of what is original is not even visible. As far as asbestos, like I stated before I would be surprised if there was any left considering in 2002 they gutted the rooms and even removed the floors to fill in the foundations and between the rooms to eliminate the trapped moisture. Now the GCH issues are another thing but it is not a safety issue.

I think you meant to write, "smells like mildew combined with the bleach cleaner used to try to get rid of the mildew".

Nasty.

CR is one of my favorites but the last time we visited the lobby it smelled like urine. We thought perhaps a kid had an accident and the mixture of the bleach and whatever else was floating around in there made a horrid smell. The GF smelled nice though.
