There is no insurance company. Like most multi-billion dollar companies, they are self-insured.

In other words, the policies in place are Disney's choice.

Oh there is a insurance policy most companies do indeed 'self-insure' but it's up to a defined limit after which what is known as reinsurance kicks in. Companies like Swiss Re http://www.swissre.com specialize in this kind of business.

I seriously doubt it only cost a "few million" to automate the entire fleet of monorails. plus refurb which we have seen on monorail black with new carpets etc.. thats not just a few million. but if you want to be the pessimist of the board far be it from me to stop you.

make that REALIST. ONE train has been fitted with the automated controls and so far that project is a failure.

The conduit on the beamlines can be used for many purposes besides train control. and as to new carpets thats probably about 100K a drop in the bucket.

and i assume you are speaking with the project manager on a daily basis and he told you they are scrapping the project soon and we will all be riding buses everywhere. dude you take this board a little too seriously.....

And I assume the computer you are posting from is located in Celebration Place or Burbank...
no im no disney apologist i could care less what they do in the end, i mean i like the monorails they are fun but if they rot away thats their problem. Im just saying you are getting a little emotional over a simple debate over whats going to happen to monorails in the future.

Not a failure. Still a work in progress. It'll get done.

It just seems that the Monorails are a fat juicy target for the cost cutters who would rather replace them with buses. And I've been around corporate america and government to see those kinds of 'guaranteed failure' programs more than once.

If you recall 20K leagues was torpedoed by something similar.

Personally the Monorails are one of my favorite WDW attractions and I've always enjoyed riding them for the simple joy of riding them.

I'm not emotional about it, Monorails are expensive to operate and the cost cutters would like to see them gone is all and I've been around corporate america long enough to know how you discontinue popular and beloved products.

Me too. I have zero concern on the monorails going away. They're not going anywhere. They're finally getting a little bit of love in fact, which has been in the works for a long, long time.

I hope you are correct as you have an excellent track record with these kind of things, It's hard to be an optimist with WDW these days as each trip something ELSE has been cut and I'm there at least 3-4X per year.

Wow...you're there 3-4 times a year and you complain as much as you do?

I'm fascinated by this. What other products are you so infuriated with that you continue to purchase?

So love it or shut up? Got it.
That's not what I said, but your response is fascinating as well. It seems whenever the topic of questioning why people continue to purchase a product they are unhappy with the question is always sidestepped in favor of declaring censorship as you have done here.

My question was directed at @ford91exploder and his, not only incessant complaining, but also his apocalyptic pessimism regarding any future investment in the company.

It's baffling that someone who has almost 6000 post with a vast majority of them crushingly negative would continue to support a product that has provided frustration for at least the past 18 months (which by his own admittance would be anywhere from 5 to 6 visits at this point) and has no positive view of the future of the product.

I find the justification of continuing to purchasing a product with the above conditions fascinating. It seems to be a poor personal decision at best, or an unhealthy addiction at worst.

New trains in the "near" future. Near meaning in the next 10 years of something. The monorail line just needs to close for a whole month so all of the trains can be overhauled and any maintanance done to the beams.

I don't buy the whole "let it rot" argument.

Too much investment in the monorail itself. As a means of transportation, Disney is associated with the monorail. Additionally, the volume of folks it transports is too great, plus it's a very green transportation method.

I don't see it going away ever, let alone anytime soon.
I agree. While the system is not in prime condition after 26 years, the trains are not in as bad condition as some would believe. Do they break down? Yes. Do they get repaired? In most cases yes, with the occasional issue that keeps reoccurring. When dealing with parts that are no longer off the shelf and must be refurbished, problems like that will occur. I wish they were spending money on either new trains, or at least gutting and completely updating the internals, but I don't have the power to make such a decision. There are projects going on now to make the trains better ex. new carpeting, and that alone will make a huge difference.
