Rumor: Disney World Indiana Jones Show Closing To Make Room For Star Wars

I like Dinsoaur and all but it could very easily (probably) be turned into Indiana Jones. Refurbish Great Movie Ride and use stuff from there, from the stunt show ... there ya go. You can still have a form of Dinoland next to it, I guess. Just build the wooden coaster, leave the dig site and again, there ya go.

Agree that a millennium falcon walkthrough could only work as a que or no one would ever leave it :)

I believe that one of the rumors was for a Millenium Falcon walk through that was part of a M&G for Chewbacca. I think that would be reasonable, because it being a "queue" for the M&G would move people along and people don't have to do the M&G part if they just want to see the spaceship.

Regardless, I think that walk throughs have become somewhat of a lost art at Disney. I like the idea of attractions where everyone can do at a whim move at their own pace to explore.

The most likely scenario is that they will close AEI and Indy and tear them down. They will fill echo lake and that entire third of DHS with sand and call it Tatooine. There's our new Star Wars Land.

Me to, I love the Swiss Tree at MK, my kids loved it to even before I showed them the movie. The Falcon Walk through would be amazing, for Star Wars fans, and if they went all out even non star wars fans would enjoy walking through in my opinion.

This. Its such a logical fit, which is probably why it wouldn't happen. Crappy theme notwishstanding, Dinorama exists to placate and entertain kids (even tho no kids can ride Primeval Whirl, but I digress). It has interactive areas and some educational content. However, if it was mated with the Indy franchise you could base the theme on archaeology in general instead of just Dinosaurs .. meaning you could add IJ without ripping out all of the current attractions. Win.

Back to DHS - IJSS could be re-purposed into a SW stunt show instead, like escape from the Death Star (trash compactor scene, etc.) or something like that .. probably would only require minimal changes to the facility. Having said that, if they're putting in a SW land, then they need a splash attraction. Dunno where else has the footprint unless they are going to expand or combine areas.

Short answer? Expensive to run and next to Star Tours.
I hate to hear expensive to run as an excuse. It is expensive to go to WDW and see it besides my cost to see it has gone up far more than WDC's cost to present it has.

What is sad is that there is the unused Soundstage right next to Star Tours and the soon to be vacant Theater next to that. Instead the apparent talks are to remove another still popular attraction. DHS sorely needs more ride capacity in this park.

I guess time will tell what will happen.

I REALLY don't want to see Echo Lake filled with concrete. I think that's stupid to take away the only large body of water in that park. But of course that's probably what they'll do. Heaven forbid we have water around the parks (just look around the parks and it's obvious where all the former fountains used to be, or fire features, that now have flowers or greenery in them). They really seem to take "cheap" to a whole new level.

I agree it would be a shame to lose echo lake...even though Echo Lake makes no sense in it's current location... Actually if you look at the footprint of the park it is a huge mess...It was like when they designed the park they forgot everything about planning a theme park... That said, water would be a nice addition anywhere you can place it...and currently Echo Lake and a fountain at Sunset Boulevard are the only visible water features...
I would not mind them morphing the back part of Echo lake into a swamp environment...

After all, what's more Animal Kingdom than an evil temple god shooting at you with lasers because you looked into his eye as you plundered his home?

I have read all the sites this week that talked about Indy Closing and neither of the sites are credible. There is an unofficial Disney Dining site that pretty much copy and pasted the article listed here, but then added a few other things about Cars Land also being included and will all be completed by 2018.

We shouldn't believe anything until WDMAGIC reports it.

Um, obviously it's not fitting for the park, technically. I'm aware of that. The idea would never happen but it's not like Dinosaur is this huge draw, even though it should be.

It's arguably a better fit for Animal Kingdom than blue aliens...

Oh, and the version before the edit was clever. :)

I don't see how one could argue that IJ is a better fit than Avatar for DAK. Not that I want to go down the "does Avatar fit in DAK" rabbit hole, but that's it's convoluted to argue that Indiana Jones fits DAK in any particular way. Sure, if you put DL's ride in Asia, it would fit the theming of the land great, but it wouldn't fit into the "mission statement" of DAK at all.

This. At least Avatar prominently features animals and focuses on the balance between nature and man. IJ is an adventure series that has little connection to animals, if any at all.

Let's see ... Indy happens to be an archaeologist (slash professor) who's researching dino bones. Dig site already there? Check. Boom. Fit. If they can come up with that 'backstory' for Chester and Hester then IMO, they could for that.

LOL.

But it was just simply something I threw out there. Of course I know it would never happen and doesn't fit the message of Animal Kingdom. I don't know why the idea is being made to be that big of a deal. It's just talk. Not like Disney is giving us much to discuss these days.

A Route 66 roadside carnival doesn't really have anything to do with the mission statement either...It was some clever story telling and a little off the point...But I don't feel that most people get the connection..It doesnt really work... Dinosaur is dated and more than a bit tired, and without all the additional activities the land was supposed to have, like the excavator coaster it is all a little one note.
While Indiana Jones is not about Animals there are always animals featured in the films that could be incorporated into the whole Lost Expedition base ...Moneys, Snakes (of course) Bugs and spiders as well as many others. I am not saying this as a challenge to Avatar, but an addition...to further expand the park...or freshen it up.

Oh, I know you could make it fit. I was referring to someone's suggestion to put the IJ Adventure (as is) in Asia.

Agreed. I guess I'm in the minority here but I can't see myself going nuts over a Millennium Falcon walk-through. I would walk in, look around a bit and then leave thinking, "That was it???".
Also, if they made parts of it interactive, the Fan Boy log jam would make the narrow passages impossible to navigate. And this is coming from a Star Wars fan.

The Star Wars equivalent of the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. Or Mickey and Minnie's houses in Toon Town.

I am a lifelong Star Wars fan and I don't think you are in the minority at all. It would be cool for a one-time thing. But if there isn't anything more to it than that, meh.

I agree the Millenium Falcon would be great to walk through, but I do think it would have to be as a queue and not just stand alone. It of course could work as just a walk through exhibit, but at the same time, I don't think the lines would be very fun. It would make a little more sense as a queue.

It would be cool as either a queue or a walk through, as long as we get something else. In fact, as a queue it might rival HPatFJ. But could you imagine a dark ride based on the entire saga? :inlove: Thing is, you know that rumor is false, at least for now, because Disney would want to wait until the ST is fully released so it can be part of the ride too. So, that might be the plan for 2019.
